playing my full version arcade games when I'm offline
So I brought my 360 with me during a vacation with some friends this weekend primarily for Halo and Rock Band, but I was unable to play certain arcade games which I own.  I did not have internet connectivity, and most of my games showed up as trial only versions, while I was able to play others (PacMan CE worked).  Why is this? I want to be able to play the full version of arcade games which I've paid for if my connectivity goes out.

i can has 360, I am sorry you are having this issue with your content. Have you had a repair or an exchange of your console recently? Content is tied to the console itself, and should not work this way if it is on the console it belongs to.

I am on my third unit, all received from Microsoft through the warranty program.  So is it true that all the arcade games I bought on now dead consoles are locked unless I am on live? That makes sense as Pac Man CE is a newer purchase.  They need to fix that if that's the case though.

Re: playing my full version arcade games when I'm offline

i can has 360, if your consoles were repaired with us, please delete and re-download the content on the console using the original gamertag that purchased them. If this does not resolve the issue please call into the support group for your region and they should be able to help you resolve this issue.

Yes, they were replaced by Microsoft.

I will try this tonight, but first, does it matter that I have paid for a Gamertag name change since I bought these?

I thought it was in the usage agreement that you could only use the games offline if you purchased the game on that console.  If you did not purchase the game on that console you would have to login to LIVE with the gamertag you used to purchase that game in order to play that game.

bob902004, that is true except where the console breaks and has to be replaced by us or exchanged at a retail store, causing an exchange of the console serial numbers.

ETB Kanen - This did not work.

I first deleted and re-downloaded an old game like you said (Hardwood Backgammon in my case).  Live recognized that I had already bought it and allowed to re-download it for no charge.

After it completed downloading, I disconnected from Live and then unplugged my ethernet cable.

I signed into my profile while not connecting to live and I could still only play the games I have downloaded since I have received this console and Backgammon showed up as a Trial-only.

I hope I walked through exactely what I did so your team can replicate it and hopefully come up with a fix.

Really?  I got my box back from repair on Monday and I just tried this just to see if it would work.  Nope, still can't play the games offline.  Any help with that?

Re: playing my full version arcade games when I'm offline

That doesn't work for me either.  I have been sent 4 refurbs from MS due to red ring issues and console failures.  I can't play any of my content offline.  Even if I delete and redownload the content, it still will not allow me to play any of them offline.

Re: playing my full version arcade games when I'm offline
I am having the same problem. I just had to replace my 36, so, since I bought it from Costco, I was able to get my money back and simply get a new system.

Now, all the games I downloaded and bought are there, but, I can only play the full game when I am online.

My questions are:
What happens if my internet goes out?
What happens of Live is down, like it was this past holiday season.
What if I am not always online with my 360? Which I am not.

Is there a way to fix this problem so that I can once again play my Arcade games without being online?

For those of you who have tried the steps I have given and they did not work, please contact the support group for your region. This is a known issue. If you contact them and inform them you have had a repair or exchange they should be able to set you up to have the content tied to your new consoles provided you exchanged at a retail store or with our repair centers. Inform them you have already tried the proper steps to resolve this issue and it did not help. They should be able to help you.

So we should call them up right? I tried to email them about the issue just to see how it might help and the email i got back had absolutely nothing to do with what i emailed them about and therefore was basically useless.

Re: playing my full version arcade games when I'm offline
I have had this problem since the elite launched. They teased me with the 120 GB hard drive and the sleek black design, so i sold my old system to get the elite. Little did i know that M$ was going to give it to me with no lube because they thought i was stealing the stuff when i paid and downloaded it on my previous console. I had no idea i would lose $500 dollars worth of downloaded content when i purchased the elite. Nor did the nice people at M$ tell me. I contacted customer support about this and they said i would have to pay for the content again. Which is hard to do even if i wanted to because there is no way it lets you because it even shows up as already downloaded when you try to download it. And i am not about to start a new gamertag because if you look at my achievements, that didnt happen overnight. What they need to do is look at how many times an account has been recovered, and if it has been recovered numerous times, then dont allow the system to get thier games back, but in my case, i have given then $1500 system at launch, 50 arcade games and downloadable game content, and an elite system. And what did i end up with? A $500 elite system. Now honestly............... who got shafted? and furthermore do you think M$ cares? LOL !!! Think again if you think you are getting your games back.

I called them, and they basically blew me off and wouldn't reset / refund my DRM broken games. I haven't been able to access a good $50 of arcade games for the last month Good luck, and Buyer Beware!

Yeah. the licensing issue. We had the red ring of death and now have this problem. We use multiple gamertags on the same console, the games will only work on your gamertag if you do the redownload thing.

I was told they have to send a request to have the licensing updated to the new console. I can understand this and was a little disappointed when they told me it takes 30 days for the licensing to update and to sit tight and be patient. I did.I called back today (over 30 days later) and learned that they probably never actually did anything before. The first time the "request" was supposedly sent in they never took any information from me other than my name adn gamertag. Today I was told that they need the console ID and the gamertags to process this and the guy took mor einformation from methan just that. I was told now it has to go to someone who investigates it and I have to sit on my hands another 30 days until it is resolved.

Is there any other way to resolve this issue other than this request. We paid for content. We followed all the proper procedures for repair. We should be able to use our content right now and not have to wait another 30 days.. especially considering it is not our fault it was done inccorectly in the first place.

Re: playing my full version arcade games when I'm offline

Since I can't edit my previous message.. I will double post. Sorry 'bout that.

I have been on the phone fo rthe better part of the day adn am still stuck with waiting 30 more days at which point I fully expect to still have the same problem. I flat out asked for a refund of my points so I can repurchase the games.. I was told by the last person that is what is underway and that is why I was told to create 2 new Xbox live acounts today. Ok... the 2 new live accounts.. are my kids. I was never told to create them for the purpose of having a refund attached to them. I was told to create one so I could recover the gamertag for it adn that would fix the licensing issue.. which it didn't. I made ym other kids a live account only becasue she would have pitched a fit about her brother having a live account had her not. I was never told to create additional gamertags to recieve refunds at, and the prospect of my kids having several thousand microsoft points on their tags is a little disconcerting.

Why is it everytime I call I get a different answer to this question. This issue affects everyone who has had a replacement console sent to them. I know form searching most of the day online that is a lot of people.

The licensing for premium downloaded content is specific to the gamertag and the console. OK. Why then.. if they know they have sent you a new console cna they not at that time tap your gamertags and update the licneses? It wouldn't be a hard thing and would take a lot less time per account than the hours tech support spends online with these calls. Come on Microsoft. Give us a break and just fix the system so we can play all of our games like we did when we bought them in good faith.

And you poor folks who bought the Elites... I considered getting one for Christmas.. glad I didn't. I feel for you because you have no recourse really.

At the end of it all, for all my frustrations and total loss of faith in Microsofts ability to support thier customers . I'm stuck waiting another 30 days to see what happens.
