I also had this problem (again) recently.  After going throught the usual motions to no avail, I simply changed both my PC's and 360's IP addresses.  Tada.  It worked.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
Thanks a bunch.  On my 3rd 360 now, and couldn't get it to connect.  Tried the steps (wouldn't let me delete all DRM files though) and now it works.  I can connect to music and video, and media center now connects as well.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
I currently connect to XBOX Live through Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). I have an ethernet cable running from my 360 to my computer, and my computer connects to a router via USB. It works fantastic, but I can't stream any music using WMP 11. The PC recognizes the 360 and I have all ports open, but the 360 doesn't recognize the PC. I've tried the DRM and other ideas listed here but none of them work. I'm curious about specific ways to make this work with ICS. Any suggestions? Is this even possible, or do I have to use TVersity? It sounds like the WMP 11 method is better because of the way files are transcoded, is this true?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hey, I also had this problem and it seemed that it was due to Norton Internet Security 2008. I simply added the Xbox 360s IP to the trusted users and it connected fine. Hope this helps

I'm having this problem myself also. I the original post method and seemed like it was about to work but the Plug and Play service won't start up which I am assuming is keeping the sharing service from starting. And yes its very annoying!

I HAVE POSTED THIS BEFORE BUT I THINK IT NEEDS TO BE STATED AGAIN.  WHY CAN'T MICROSOFT DEVELOP A PROGRAM TO MAKE NETWORKING EASIER WITH THE XBOX.  I INSTALLED A WIRELESS LEXMARK PRINTER IN MY HOME WITH A SET UP DISC AND A USB CABLE.   IT WAS PLUG AND PLAY.  THIS 360 NETWORKING HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE TO SAY THE LEAST.  I HAVE READ ALL 18 PAGES OF THIS THREAD AND TRIED ALL THE TIPS AND PROCEDURES POSTED TO FIGURE THIS NETWORK OUT WITH NO LUCK.  MICROSOFT, PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO EASE OUR FRUSTRATION.  SIMPLIFY THIS NETWORK ISSUE BEFORE I LOOSE MY MIND!!!

I will second third fourth and infinity that.  All of this advertised stuff about how our 360 is an extender and the greatness of a Media Center PC.  It is very difficult to make work.  Please fix this MS.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
I fought this problem for months and became very very frustrated after numerous calls to XBox customer service and many others.  I finally resolved the issuse by unistalling Zune and then rolling back WMP 11 to WMP 10 and finally reinstalling Zune.  The rollback process involves quite a few steps and must be done properly and completely or you will find as I did, that it does you no good (I actually removed the program a couple of times with no success).  There is a detailed list of steps on the following website...

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/readme.aspx#RollingbacktoapreviousversionofthePlayer

The steps are listed under heading listed in red below on the aforementioned website.

Minimum system requirements

Installing and removing the PlayerThis finally worked for me after months of frustration.  I hope this helps some of you.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
I'd also like to connect my Xbox 360 with my PC. My Xbox is connected to internet with a wired cable to a router. My PC is connected to that router with a wireless network.

So my setup is like this:

                wired                                   wireless
[XBOX]--------------->[ROUTER]<  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  - [PC]

So I tried these steps (from xbox.com), to try and connect my Xbox with my PC

# In Windows Media Player, click Library, Media Sharing.
# Select Share my media, OK. Windows Media Player will search for devices on your network.
# Click your console, then click Allow. If you want to apply more options, click Settings. When done, click OK.

The problem is, I ticked 'Share My Media', but it doesn't find my Xbox 360. It doesn't find anything at all.

-----------------

I also tried connecting my Xbox to my PC with Zune. The Zune list is as followed:

3. Run the Zune software setup on your PC and follow the prompts.
4. After setup, in the Zune software, click Settings, Sharing.
5. Click Enable Media Sharing with Xbox 360.
6. Set your media sharing options, then click OK.
7. On your Xbox 360 console, in the Media area of the Xbox Dashboard, select Music, Pictures, or Video.
8. If your PC's content is not displayed, press X and select your PC.

Here I can execute all steps, except of Step 8, because when I select e.g. Music, I have to test my connection, and then I pass the connection tests, I just fail the 'Computer Selected' test. What can I do to make my connection work?

Thanks in advance. :)

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
Ok before I lose my cool...oh wait...I lost that like 20 hours ago...

First off thanks to all forum members who have come up with custom fixes unfortunatly none of which have worked for me yet though I have not viewed all 18 or whatever pages of this Thread but Ive done so much I finally HAVE to post.

I have a Linksys Router the good ol BEFSR41 "GO WALMART LOL".
I've tried to port forward that to all 8 slots or however many cause you only get 10 PForward slots to the best of my know how.

I have tried to Open all ports via my Mcafee, even toggled stuff off and on and still no help there.

I enabled Upnp on the router, Ive done the WMP11 media sharing and my 360 shows up and I did that part right...or at least I hope I did.

Ive deleted "In Safe Mode" the DRM system file stuff.

I used to have Zone Alarm but was unable to locate any lingering files such as the VS.Dll or whatever it was called...so dun think thats my problem.

Im all updated on windows updates...and every time I just get stopped cold by the No PC Detected Xbox Live scan.  Ive been going at this for hours and hours.  MS Support didnt do anything but further confuse me.  I did the Network Wizard about 3 different ways trying everything possible and still no success.  This Thread has been going for like 2 years.

Im on XP using SP2...Updated my Xbox Dashboard to newest version...WMP11...and still nothing UPNP has been enabled on the Router and filesharing options are open and im just out of ways...I appreciate the support but none of it has applied to my specific case of problems.  Everytime I just get denied by the PC selected option.

I hate to quit now after so much time has been put into a resolve on my end but I could really use any more help anybody could suggest.  MS support told me to foward the following ports that are different than the Xbox Live suggested Ill list those now.

TCP 5555
TCP 3390
TCP 3932-Outgoing
UDP 7777
UDP 3776
UDP 1900
UDP 3390

Please help me its up to the users here on the forums because MS just has lost touch with how to assist people on wide spread problems...its not very professional and very upsetting to say the least. Thanks guys!  Without U I lose all hope.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.

OK I finally got it working!!!!!

Thanks to BluebloodedCDN for pointing me in the right direction, but his steps didn't resolve my issue.
So, I searched for many hours and found a forum that gave me the greatest gift of all. :)

I did have to reset my DRM licenses because after getting a new MB and CPU the DRM licenses
got screwed. I currently have vista home premium.

I did do what BluebloodedCDN said and stopped "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service"
found at typing "services.msc" at the run prompt.

Here's the link for resetting  the DRM "http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=891664"

I just did step 3, but make sure you don't delete the DRM file just the stuff inside.
Really the only difference in BluebloodedCDN is that DRM file he was mentioning was
different for me. I have two probably more. Because if you go to C:\programdata their is
a DRM file but the correct one for me was in

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DRM

Anyways, after deleting the contents of that folder go to this link
"http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=34506"

and upgrade

After that restart your "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service"

It worked for me hopefully it will for you. Thanks to everyone!!!

Appears your DRM file was like that because you have Vista...I only have XPHOME and I tried this and still no luck still just stuck where the 360 JUST wont see the PC...this is horrible...thanks for the extra troubleshooting im willing to try anything within reason id really like this to finally work.  When you say restart your WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER NETWORK SHARING SERVICE do you mean WMP11?

Yeah I would appreciate that...if you could let me know your port forwarding settings on the Linksys that would help just to make totally sure I did it right.  Hope its not my McAfee...I tried to forward that and even turned it off and on with no luck.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.

Let me ask this question, has anyone with windows xp home ever gotten this to work just with wmp11?

I have hooked up my xp home computer and downloaded wmp11 and turned on file sharing and all that good stuff, but it doesn't show my xbox in wmp11.

On my Vista computer it has windows media center on it. I use to use that before they came out with the update, then I started using wmp11. Now after I changed MB and CPU, it didn't show up anymore. My first problem was that I couldn't get the xbox to show up in wmp11. I had to redo the setup for windows media center for wmp11 to recognize my xbox. Then it was redoing the DRM files.

So, what I wonder if noone has gotten this to work just with xp home with no other software, other than wmp11, does that mean you have to have windows media center or media connect, which I haven't tried yet, for it to work?

Also, I believe ppl should state what windows version they are using when they say it use to work but now it doesnt. So, we can try to narrow this problem down.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
Well I never got it to work...I totally uninstalled my Mcafee and toggled Windows Firewall on and even off...so that didnt solve anything.  Tried all the port forwarding stuff...I even called MS Support.  I did all the other hastle of things I listed before...I put myself at risk of viruses and everything...so for what so I can stream a video/music to my Big LCD?  Rediculous!!!

There will most likely be a software update by MS in the future when more have stopped caring about the issue...I dont know about others but I've been having a hard time navigating the Videos of Dashboard lately as well get that 800xxxxxc status code or whatever it is.  Im not valuing the support here...a thread should never go unsuccessful for so long...MS you need to address this something you did is not compatible for everybody and thats discrimination being the fact so many cant get it work and some can get it to work...and we all pay the same money for it to work...I hope this gets handled one way or another.

I quit on this issue until a easy fix presents itself...I've been using a USB Ipod type device so I can listen to music without throwing up CD's on my HD...and wow how easily that got detected...WOW!!!

After much fidling around I found this was my problem. I could see the xbox 360 from my pc which was wired and my xbox is wireless. I couldnt ping it which was fine as the Xbox will only let you ping it during the test connection part for xbox live. The problem I had was that when I enabled sharing it would say media sharing is disabled constantly. I also could not see the pc from the xbox as media sharing was not on. I noted in event viewew this problem:

Service 'WMPNetworkSvc' did not start correctly because QueryService encountered error '0x80040150'. In Windows Media Player, turn off media sharing, and then turn it back on.

I then ran services.msc and tried to manually start WMPNetworkSvc but this gave the same error. I noticed it was using the NT AUTHORITY\NetworkService account to log on. I changed this to Local System Account and ticked allow service to interact with desktop and this fixed it. To do this:

1. go run services.msc

2. find Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service

3. go to Log On tab

4. Change in to Local System account and tick allow service to interact with desktop.

Everything is now working

0x80040150

WMPNetworkSvc

This was the final fix for me.  I use WMP11 and I tried for months to get this to work.  I have a wired xbox and wireless computer.  I must say I also setup port forwarding, disabled ICS and deleted DRM files before this last step, so any combination of things could have been what worked.  I hope this helps or at least gives hope to others.
