  Okay, I'm sure I'm being a bit dense here, but I can't figure out how to get past the cube-dude in the top-middle section of this level.  I keep sending the girl there with the laser, try to time opening the door so she can go through and clock him without getting zapped, but it's just not happening.

  Anyone?

If I remember right, you have to have her run PAST the alien, and then turn around and slice him.

If it's too far for her to run, here's how you get them closer.  When you first get up there, keep your distance and let the alien get close to the door, and then run towards him so he starts zapping.  Then put the girl right at the door so she's ready to run by.  Then you can do your business to open the door, and rush her on by.

  Thanks for the advice - that along with some very close timing between zaps, hitting the switch and getting back up the lift to move the girl does the trick.

  Now that I can get her through the door, I can't figure out how to get everyone out of the level.  I figure I need the cube dudes stacked up at the bottom for people to climb out, requiring the laser-doohicky, but the girl also needs the ladder, and she can't bring both down with her from where she runs past the alien!  :(

You don't need the lightsaber for the last part.  You can also take an alien out by dropping a block on its head.
