sounds like a firewall issue, you may need to change the xbox IP address to trusted. if you have norton this is very easy to do.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
hello, ive recently been trying to get proper use out of the media sharing through windows media player to the xbox 360. windows media player picks up the xbox, but the xbox wont pick up the pc. ive tried opening the correct ports and all sorts but to no success. i thought it must be a software thing somewhere. but when i try the same laptop and xbox on my friends bt home hub (which is also what i also use at home) it works perfectly. now im sure this cant be a port thing as he assures me hes never changed any of the home hub settings since he got it.
the only difference i can think of is that he has few network devices plugged in, where as mine at home has many, but cud this affect it?

Funny thing is you don't need to open ports for PC connenctivity.  I don't have anything forwarded and I'm able to connect to my PC without any problems.  The fix for me was, enabling multicast, and deleting the drm folder, and not it works flawlessly.  I currently have two ports open so I can have an open NAT.  If I don't open any ports, i'm at moderate.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
you know with all the questions and guesses of how to fix it and all the endless amounts of forums all over the internet all of them base around one question "how can i get my 360 and pc to play nicely" you would think microsoft would have a press conference for all 360 owners and just give out a cd with a automatic program that so long as the 360 is connected to the pc the program would do the rest but i guess thats just to much to ask from the company that made two devices that just hate each other so much and love to **** there owners off with it   just a thought

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
After much frustration, I got mine working. Here's what I did:

-Deleted the contents of my DRM folder

-Still nothing, so did other stuff. First thing I did was restart WMP Network Sharing Service

-Redo Network Setup Wizard

-Still nothing, so then I restarted HTTP SSL service, and then WMP NSS again

For some reason, after I restarted my xbox (I restarted those services with the XBOX off) it worked. I went to music, left it for about 3 seconds and my pc came up, letting me stream music.

Very stranger.

I am using a direct ethernet connection to my pc with ICS, FYI.

Thanks for bumping this. Hopefully Op is still here to help. This is my problem. After I followed all your steps, when it comes time to  go to services.msc and start the windows media sharing, it fails and gives me error # 1068, "The dependency service or group failed to start"

Any clues?

I havnt read all the threads but after 2.5 hours on support phone, they suggested using Zune, it worked first time, just need to work out how to view my movies, any ideas? my pictures are in the folders, and music in correct place but folders empty of my films.

I'm still not able to do this. I know my problem relies somewhere else. I need to find out why my sharing service fails to start. Any help is appreciated.

I've tried installing Zune, and I can't even install it because M$ decided in order to install Zune you must have some kind of update, that would enable you auto update.. Seriously? WTF?

Now, regarding Tversity, it's a pain in the neck. I installed it, and it had the most retarded installation ever. After the whole install this, and install that, and all that other crap you don't need from the Tversity dev's, my 360 actually found my pc, only to not find any of my videos. Which I guess have to be transfered to an obscure Tversity folder. So, I haven't been able to actuall stream with it, but I bet it's going to be another buffering crap, that will still lag your videos after buffering.. I miss my old streaming day.. Damn you SP3!
