the only ways i can see to get to it are straight into the part of darkwater where i need to summon a dragon to do the official "attack" on it. but to summon a dragon i need to get the amulet to the darkwater portal, which appears to be inside that same area. is there a way to sneak in or something?

Jump the fence, go Left, kill the Two Legion, then go up and sneek past the 2x3 Legion Archers and follow that course to the Leystone.

its actually pretty easy and the stealth missions on this game are fun (whereas i also usually don't like them either).

going left after jumping the green carpet and getting on the front wall will get you there everytime.

Also, remember there are 6 skulls hidden in Darkwater.  After powering up the amulet, don't launch the battle and sneak around looking for them.  Note that if you get one and then are killed, you don't lose it.  So for a couple, i just went running through the fort and making grabs for them before i was dragged down...then resurrected and went back in for another of them.  it was actually pretty fun.

Sneaking into Holdenfort is even easier, because you can kill as you go without attracting huge hordes to you.  just be sure to toss an axe at any horn blowers when you see them.

but if you go my way u can find most of the skulls

and u dont have to kill any body if you r sneaky enough, so i still think my way is easier, cause when u fight people more legoin will come after u.

The above two answers make it sound far too simple!  Yes, jump the wall by the green carpet (around the side where the leystones are), but then there's an awful lot of sneaking that needs to be done, not just running across the road!  There are LOADS of bad guys around, all walking different directions and causing you hassle.

Go to the right wall of the fortress, and you'll see a green blanket. Climb over it. Go left, and hope over the small wall, and climb up the crates, towards two guys standing at a camp fire. Kill them. Run across the top wall, killing the 6 archers (no one else will come, unless the archers fall). Get off the wall when near the protal, kill the guy near the logs, and climb up to the portal.

This is about right...but you don't have to kill the 6 archers..you can just sneak past them.
