How is the "Obsession" leaderboard calculated?

Banstyle 08-08-2006, 10:14 PM

My Obsession rank is around 280 or so. Is that calculated in minutes? I can't see how I spent 280 minutes in the game, but I guess it's possible.

It's an algorithm that calculates a score based on how much total time you've spent in the game.

I assume that simple time spent in game will raise that score? What else does it factor in besides time spent in game?

I have a higher overall score them my friend, yet his Obsession rank is higher. The Obsession leaderboard is the one shown on the XBLA dashboard.. which is aggrivating to no end. ^__^

The obsession score is the total minutes spent in any game mode.

Yep, I believe it is total minutes played (it certainly makes sense) and it is extremely annoying for that to be the leaderboard shown on the dash instead of the overall game score one, which actually requires skill.

I see what you mean.  I like Obsession in game, but with the new leaderboards thing that came with the update, I want my regular score.  I am ranked very high up (12), and a lot of my friends are up there with me(About 5 are in top 10, 2 or 3 in top 15), so we all are competing for it.

(Total minutes + overall score) / 0.75

Nice! How'd you figure that one? ;) That's a pretty strange equation for a leaderboard.

An educated guess.

Educated? I don't think so. My obsession score is 490. My total score is 3705632. I don't think it takes a genius to figure out your formula is flawed.

I even did the sum. In order to make your formula work, I'd have (where x = time coz I don't know how long I've played)

(x+3705632)/0.75 = 490.

This means: x+3705632 = 490*0.75

x+3705632 = 367.5

x = 367.5-3705632

x = -3705264.5

How is it possible that my answer is negative? Time played cannot be negative. Even if it were positive, the amount of minutes I'd have played would be 3705264.5 That divided by 60 = 61574.408 HOURS. Divide that by 24 and that gives you 2573.1003 DAYS. There's 365 or 366 days in a year and the 360 hasnt been out THAT long, much less Cloning Clyde. My answer gives over 7 years.

Therefore, you are wrong. I knew before I even did the maths.

When you bring up the Obsession Leaderboard, it says "This score is raised by spending time in any game mode" So therefore, the only factor that is used is time. This means it'll be seconds, minutes, hours etc.

My score is 490, that is 8 hours 10 minutes if it is in minutes and, although I didn't use a stopwatch, that sounds more or less right!

I just played a couple of levels on Cloning Clyde and my times were 5 minutes 46 secs and 35.53 secs. My Obsession score has gone from 490 to 499. There was time wasted in the lobby also. I improved my game score so to make sure it wasn't related to that, I did a level where I didn't improve my game score. That level took me just under a minute. (59 seconds) and guess what? My Obsession score has gone from 499 to 500. This must mean it is minutes played.

And one more thing, I looked at your GT and noticed you haven't even played the game. So how was it an educated guess when you haven't even played it?

Case closed: It is the total minutes you have played.

And in future, please have some idea of what you are talking about before you post your suggestions. I'm not trying to be mean but if you don't know something, there is no shame in admitting it.

Edit: Please don't take offence. I am merely trying to help.Smile [:)]

I agree that it's probably one of the more ridiculous leaderboards in existence. Doom takes the cake, however.. since that Arcade game actually shows scores backwards on the XBLA Dash. The #1 person is the worst. ;)

The way I got my score was by leaving it on over night for about 2 nights in a row, and then I beat the game in one play through (getting 100%).  That got me in the 2 spot, now I am like 15.  wah!
