Where is the local multiplayer for 2 players that the Marketplace description (& Major Nelson) indicates that the game has - this is one of the main reasons I bought the game

 

To add insult to injury (the none-working online mode) it seems to be missing.
How one can mess up a release of such a classic beloved franchise is beyond words...

Absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. I bought this game to play with my family in the CLEARLY LABELED LOCAL MULTIPLAYER 2 only to find that it was non-existant. Not only that, the online play is utterly nonfunctional? Way to betray the trust of your consumers. See if I buy any more Live Arcade games. We deserve an explanation.

^^ I agree with you.  I bought Mr. Driller for Online Play and Local Multiplayer with my roommate.

I suspected that Online play would have issues when it was initially released, but I still got it to play with my roommate. 

I really didn't notice it actually said 2-player Local matches when I downloaded.. I just assumed.

So, already owning this on DC and DS, I'm disappointed.

However, I still think Single-Player and Competitive Leaderboard action is well worth the $10 for any new-comer to Mr. Driller... but completely pointless for anyone with any other version of the game.

... at least until/unless they patch it.

I just contacted Namco/Bandai support. According to them, the 2-player Local Match in the product description is a misprint... and is not planned to be released in a patch.

However, there's apparently an update in the works to fix online multiplayer.

What a joke. I was really excited for this to come out. Especially the local multiplayer. And now they mark it down as a "misprint"? How does this happen?? And how does the online version not work - are these games not tested?? That's $10 that could have been spent much more wisely. Guess I won't make the same mistake twice. Terribly disappointing.

Like I've mentioned before... when it comes to online play, lots of times, developers... especially those doing budget or XBLA titles, don't have the capacity to fully test online play because either they don't have enough testers or they can't afford/won't do a public-beta release to test all the possible scenarios that come up when so many people are attempting to play.

Instead, they release the game and patch it as soon as they figure out the issues.

I mean... this happens with many games.  Bomberman LIVE was nigh-impossible to play for the first week or 2 it was out.  Then it was patched.

The thing is though it only takes 2 people to play online to test the game. I mean come on they cant make the game and not test it what so ever, along with this MS are meant to have tested the game - theres no excuse.

I could play Bomberman Live fine on release That was the most amount of time I spent on it online - when it was released.

How can they call it a miss-print?  They advertised it as such for several months!!!   They gave  info of it out to gaming companies, websites, and magazines about it being a offline multiplayer.

For them to say anything other than that is a flat out lie and false advertisement and fraud.  I know I have said that a lot on this forum lately.  But it is the truth.   They advertised it as such.  They gave out info of it.  Then MS went and didn't test the game.  So they trusted Namco's description.  Both MS and Namco are at fault.

This is not a miss-print at all.  It was an promised and well advertised feature of this game.

I absolutely agree - offline multiplayer was clearly advertised and clearly promoted. It should be there, and it is false advertising -fraud- that it is not. Both companies had literally months to deal with this issue, to catch it, to see any 'typo'... clearly, either there was a complete lack of quality and content control, or there was deliberate fraud.

Personally, I rather think the former. I think this was just a case of slapdash lack of attention and lack of concern for the customer... which is to say, us.

It is right and correct to be upset about this, and the problem should be addressed by both Microsoft and Namco.

Sure, they can get away with defrauding us this time, and probably again and again, but at some point, people will stop buying from them. And once lost, that consumer base is not coming back. Not without a *** of a lot of concessions.

Do the right thing, Microsoft and Namco. Give us what we paid for, or give us our money back, now, and admit your failure.

I'm not holding my breath, though, to be honest.

I think I'm starting to understand what these hack companies are starting to do.  They rush a unfinished game with very little QA.  They look at first month sales.  If first month sales dont meet expectations they abandon it.  If they do they put resources on a patch.

They did this with Culdcept Saga.  When it was released in febuary they had a game with the devs night.  Once of my pals played with them and they said they were definately looking at the problems.  culdceptsaga.com (a fansite) did and interview with them in March and they said there were no plans for an update (to fix disconnects).

It's not only Namco but they are the worst offenders and the least talented online developers in the business.  Some of the most creative talent...but bad netcoders.

Best recourse?  Ban Namco from your money.  That includes Soul Caliber unfortunately.  But do you really want to be that frustrated with a full retail price game?

ps. there is simply no way on earth this game could have passed Namco QA if they really cared.  There is no way on earth their QA could be that poorly managed unless it came from the top down.

exactly. i really doubt i'll be buying any more xbla games for a long time. to add to the fact that the online is broken and local multiplayer is missing... the graphics suck... sure the up converted to 720p, but the didn't re-draw ANY of the in-game graphics. The menus are nice and pretty, but who wants the ACTUAL GAME updated? seriously, *** namco/bandai

I doubt we'll get refunded, that would cost way to much money and time. The most we'll get is a patch for online multiplayer in the next few months but thats about all I see happening. A refund sounds nice but at least they're trying to get a few of the issues fixed instead of ignoring the issue completley(do I hear EA anyone?).

They also seem to forget 10x how ever many thousands bought it adds up to a huge amount.

Has anyone successfully managed to get a refund from Microsoft over this?  I mean, it's the least they can do.  I understand that the bugginess of the game (and lack of two-player local) is Bandai's fault, but come on, MS should have checked to see that it had all the features that they were advertising.

It won't happen until we get enough complaints to the FTC.
