Serious? You'd better believe it. The disc bundled with OXM's February 2008 issue contains 3 songs that you'll find ONLY on this disc:
* Freezepop — "Sprøde"
* Bang Camaro — "Rock Rebellion"
* Count Zero — "Shake"
It's a must-buy for any and all Rock Band fans. Repeat after us: 3 ALL-NEW, EXCLUSIVE SONGS! ONLY ON THIS DISC!
Dan OXM wrote:What can I say? We found out the way you found out. We thought they were ours forevers, but we don't actually own the copyright to those tracks. They are property of Harmonix and the bands, so they are legally allowed to do with them as they see fit.Many times we have exclusive demos...that find their way to Marketplace later on. I guess it's like that. I was hoping they would remain ours forever but there's not much to say other than...oh well. I understand the other side: It's good content, so why wouldn't they let everybody enjoy it? Hopefully, folks will see the upside: We were able to give them to OXM readers three months earlier than everybody else, and they came free with the magazine they're (hopefully) buying anyway, instead of costing extra cash.
They could've at least told you guys that it was a limited exclusivity deal.
InvertedSine wrote: They have been lazy the last couple of weeks and gave us 1 Track last Tuesday and then three tracks that they already had made this coming Tuesday. Sounds like the Rock Band DLC is starting to slow down. In fairness, they may have just taken a hiatus on production or some tracks may have gotten caught up in the process. So, far the Rock Band DLC has been pretty stable which is better than we can say for other games.
Francesca OXM wrote:Hey guys: Just a word of note -- those tracks that were on our February issue for Rock Band were guaranteed exclusively for us for a certain amount of unspecified time. We usually do this with specific demos, but for the RB tracks, the length of exclusivity was undetermined other than that we would have them for the duration the February issue was on newsstand and then some. We try to make these deals in order to reward our subscribers with new content first (and hopefully exclusively for a good amount of time) to show that we appreciate your support. But ultimately, when there's content to be had, you can't blame a developer/publisher for wanting to capitalize on it. In the case of Harmonix, these guys are putting out new tracks EVERY week (whether it's one track or six -- in the case of the Grateful Dead pack, etc.) and they have to actually program the game to work with new content each of those weeks. They have to put a good amount of work into each track they output every week, so it's incorrect to think of them as being lazy. But, now that our February has been off sale for three months or so -- it was apparently decided that our subscribers and newsstand readers were able to get the jump on leaderboards, etc. well enough in advance. It was never our intention to misinform any of you into thinking that those RB tracks were indefinitely exclusive to OXM -- we just didn't know exactly when they would go up on Marketplace or if they actually would, seeing that there's already so much content slated to be up there for RB. But, stuff like this serves as a good lesson for us and we'll try to keep you all much more aware about things like this in the future. Thanks for bearing with us. :)

They could be working on an album and decided that they would release theses songs to keep the rest of us busy while they finished up the album.

OXM just got the exclusive tracks, months in advance. I don't think they're going to mention the tracks in a manner more than "Hey we had these, now they're on Marketplace".Is it really something to get excited over?
it isnt really a bug. you downloaded them from a disc, so why would they show up that you bought them from marketplace? you dont own the songs via marketplace. it isnt just with the songs either, it is the same deal with all downloadable content on the discs that can be found on marketplace.
if there is money to be had, then you can be assured someone is going after it.
