Evolution or Splash?
I'm looking for a tetris game and can't decide. The price of Evolution really doesn't bother me. So I was wondering if anyone had played both and which one they prefer.

It depends on what your looking for. Evolution has more game modes, but the online for Splash is better, at least in my opinion. The controls in Evo feel clunky compared to Splash. Have you downloaded the demo for Splash to try it yet?

I can see why some people prefer Evo over Spash. Evo has so many more ways to play, but for me I like normal Tetris. I still pop it in from time to time, but it's been a while. I still would love to see a truly endless version that doesn't stop at level 15 and doesn't have a cap on the speed....

Dog, I like different forms of tetris, but the ones on Evo are garbage. Fusion and square were teh best.

Excuse me?!?!?

That's the same respnse I got from one of my friends more or less.
I don't get it though.

Tetris Evolution has more game modes, more achievements, more music, more backgrounds, more types of backgrounds (pictures, slideshows, animated videos) and so on and so on. How can anyone pick splash over evolution?

There was a PC game for DOS way back in the 90's called "Tristix" that was basically a tetris ripoff, but it actually had an endless mode. The game didn't end until you lost, so you could concievably play forever. I got some HUGE scores on that one.

Re: Evolution or Splash?
I downloaded Splash but it seems to be the ADD version of Tetris. As opposed to previous versions I've played, where the game speeds up over time, not based on the height of your lines.

Is Evo the same way? I'm looking for a Tetris in the more classic sense, where you could play a game against someone that could last 20+ min without them being an all-star maniac player.

In Tetris Splash it's rare for me to have a game against someone last even 4-5 minutes.

Re: Evolution or Splash?
Uhh, Splash speeds up the same way as most other tetris games. Every 10 line clears. At least in single player. Not sure how it does it in multi-player, but I do know that is definately NOT from the height of your lines. Evolution online play is dead. You can barely ever find anyone to play against.

Whenever I'm playing a local versus match, it always speeds up once the height reaches a certain point. In past versions, it would speed up as you passed the different levels. In Splash, if you get about 75% of your screen filled, it speeds up like crazy, even if you haven't cleared many lines at all.

It without a doubt plays differently than any Tetris I played on NES, SNES, or even N64 (including Tetris/Dr. Mario versions).

Yes, thats nice. Found that site already. But the download on marketplace is still missing, and thats the point ;)
I searched the web a bit, and it seems, this game was taken off from the marketplace a while ago. Sad :(

the wynk...it shows it's still there on Market Place Xbox Live Arcade.  It shows it still has a price, which makes me think it's still there to DL.  MAYBE it's only avalible in the U.S.  I don't know why it would but you never know.  I made myself a note to look tonight.

Ok, here's what's up. They delisted Splash, but you can still download it. From what I know if you access somebody's gamercard on your xbox and they have played Splash you will have the option to download it.

I looked last night and it's still there on my Live Arcade.  I can't guess why you don't have it on yours.  It's a mystery.

I forgot Splash is a U.S. and parts of the U.K. apparently. Go check out this page: http://forums.xbox.com/18723725/ShowPost.aspx There is a workaround for it though. Some people from Japan were playing it.

From what I gather you would need to make a U.S account and purchase Splash with that account. Then any account on your Xbox would be able to play the full game.

Yeah, they were talking about creating a secondary account for this over at tetrisconcept.com. http://www.tetrisconcept.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=710&hilit=splash You have to create a U.S. silver account and download Splash with that. Then like I said any account on your Xbox will be able to play the full version. Don't know how far you want to go to get Splash, but there you go.

Re: Evolution or Splash?
Both Evolution and Splash have advantages and disadvantages, so it depends on what you are looking for.

Evolution advantages:
2-player battle
More game modes

Evolution disadvantages:
Lag from players with slow connection speeds
Few online players

Splash advantages:
Play control
Rare lag

Splash disadvantages:
Targeting
No one-on-one battles
Only 2 game modes

Even though both games are Tetris, they are very different in the way they are played.  In order to win in Evolution, you need  to quickly perform plenty of back-to-back tetrises and t-spins.  In order to win in Splash, you need combos, combos, combos.  I have seen good Splash players get crushed trying to play Evolution.  Likewise, I have seen good Evolution players not perform well in Splash.

Overall, I prefer Evolution simply because of the 2-player battle mode (ranked or custom).  I believe the best way to show off your Tetris skills is a one-on-one battle where speed, accuracy, and technique are what determines the winner; not targeting or teaming up on faster players as you will find in Splash.

I agree - i think splash is for people who can't handle an online one-on-one battle and have to hide behind their "team".

I wish there was a way where you could turn off the stupid targeting in Splash and send "distributed" lines to your opponents instead -- as you can in Evolution.  This way, there would be no "teaming up" on better players; and the fastest, most accurate players would win the match.

I still think the one major drawback to Splash is there is no online 2-player battle.  Splash has a very good 2-player battle mode, but unfortunately it is for local players only.  It would be much better if this same mode could be selected for online play where the full matrices for both players could be seen.

Evolution or Splash?
I think both are fun but Evolution is my first pick. If no one is on Evo and I want a game, then I'll settle with splash. I like how in Evo Ranked that it's all about skill and one on one. Where Splash, I agree with the others, the rank is messed up by the team killing.

Also, in Evolution you can use strategy by watching what's coming up on the opponent's side just like your own. You can't see that in Splash. Like if you're building up to have a back-to-back or dirty south tetris and you see they're about to do a tetris, you can have one ready to cancel it out, or use it to your advantage knowing they don't have anything, so you can do doubles and triples to push them over.

Evolution is all about strategy/speed.
Splash is team killing and combos.

Even though Evolution has some drawbacks, it is the better choice.  Splash is a horrible version of Tetris.
