what a joke.  i was hoping they would have fixed this with a patch by now so i could pick the game back up, apparently they just don't care.

is it true that the newest update from xbox live takes care of the freezing-on-loading-screen-in-franchise problem?

Same! Same! Same! I'm about 30 games into my season and it just started for me too. I did download the updates roster the other day. What a piece of S***!

It was after downloading the update that it happened for me to I am sure. I wish I could tell everyone what I did to make it work again, but I have been nervous about it happening again ever since. Has anyone else fixed it yet?

Mine's been fine since I got it on launch day... until today.Finished a game in season mode and it froze up at the save season screen.I'm playing through on Hall of Famer difficulty, so losing a win is a major pain in the ***.

I got my NHL 2K6 yesterday, and what a waste.  When I first popped in the disc, I played an exhibition game and everything worked.  So I started a franchise, created a couple players, and now nothing works.  I deleted my franchise, started a new one, only this time I added my players to the free agent pool instead of straight to a team (trying to avoid the edit lines screen).  I played a game!!  Success!!  Oh wait - when I quit the game, I got the eternal loading screen.

Does anyone else have any ideas?  I'm about to get a memory card, transfer everything there and reformat my HDD.

I think reformatting is harsh. I wish I could tell you how I got it working again but I just dont know. It stopped working for about three weeks. Then one day I had a buddy over and was going to show him what happens and it just started working again. I dont play it online. The one time I used my online profile, I lost the game. I only use my offline profile now and it has been working ever since.. Try everything you can think of.. Create a new gamer profile if you have to.. thats how I did it ... atleast I think thats how..

Erasing your harddrive is too extreme. You lose everything that came on it and its just not worth the hassle. I love hockey, but 2K6 for the 360 just isnt worth it. The graphics are nice but the game plays better on the Xbox. The goalie AI in the 360 took a HUGE step back.

FYI, the 2ksports.com thread on this is at 13 pages and counting.  This is a real problem.

I can back this up.  My first franchise would not even LOAD the game at all (this is different from the end of game loading - this is before a game).  I could hear my 360 spinning up for the load, I get the tips on the screen, it says loading, then I hear the 360 spinning down, the music dies, and then that's it - nothing.

So being concerned about the Edit Lines bug, I deleted my franchise, and decided to start over - I first created 2 players, didn't save the rosters, and put the players in the free agency pool, not on a team.  I started the franchise.  I got the game to play!  But then after the game, I got the frozen loading screen (this seems like what everyone else has been seeing; different from my first freezing problem).  Guessing it may have been a 360 problem, I restarted, reloaded the franchise, played a game, same freeze.

So I concur that it's somehow related to the Edit Lines bug, and that (maybe?) it's trying to write a file (corrupted) to the HDD, and when you play a game after that, any game in which you have new accomplishments, it tries to access that bad file, and it gets stuck.

Well, there is one.  I just tried it.

I purchased a memory unit.  I transferred most of my saved games and my saved profiles onto it.  I reformatted my HDD.

I went into NHL2K6, played an exhibition game - great.  No problems.

So I created a franchise, created a couple players (did NOT go to the Edit Lines screen at all), saved the franchise onto my MU (I have no NHL2K files on my HDD at all), and I can't even load a game.  Same FRIGGIN' problem.  This is unbelievable.

Hey, here's some more info - after having reformatted my HDD, I tried playing the game with my offline profile saved on my memory unit - WITH MY HDD UNPLUGGED and the game still won't load in franchise mode.  So to whomever posted the "reformatting works every time" - it didn't work for me.

Now that you mention it, mine only locks after I edit lines.I'm playing a season with Calgary,and I noticed Kipper was getting fatigued so I edited the line to give him a night off.Played the same game twice with lockups at save screen.The third time I forgot to edit and it worked.Next game I played, I tried to edit again and it locked at save screen again.I haven't played it since.

My now freezes every single time I try to start a franchise game, with or without editing lines, with or without my HDD even attached.  Something is majorly (is that a word?) wrong.

But I just got off the phone with Microsoft support, and they told me that this game title is "officially under investigation!!!"  I'm not sure what that means exactly, but apparently Microsoft is tired of taking calls about this, so they're looking into NHL 2K6 themselves.  Good news!

I dont wanna step on any toes here, but I change lines regularily and mine is still working fine. I too had the freeze on the loading screen, but somehow recovered without erasing my HD, and without buying a memory card. I am not exactly certain what I did, but I think it had something to do with the gamer profiles. I didnt erase my settings, I didnt erase my rosters. I just copied then to a new profile, deleted my live profile, started over again, and it somehow worked. I have not had a problem since, except my frustration with the goalie AI.. Even on Hall of Famer its bad.

I'm jealous.  I'll try deleting my live profile entirely.  Thanks.

I've never played over Live,but yeah,the AI is horrible.I'm playing on Hall of Famer as well and I'm scoring double digits in every game.

Xbox version played better but certainly didnt look as nice. Goalie AI was alot better on it.

UPDATE - Yesterday I exchanged my NHL 2K6 disc for a new one.  Before playing it, however, I deleted my Live gamertag, and moved everything I could onto my memory unit.  I reformatted my HDD (for the second time).  This time when I recovered my gamertag, I put everything on my memory unit.  I started NHL 2K6 again, and by some miracle, everything works!  I've played 3 games of my franchise now, I've edited lines, the works.  Everything is (FINALLY) working as intended.

So my conclusions:

1.  I could have had a bad disc from the start.  This seems the least likely scenario, especially in light of the way everyone else had this problem manifested.

2.  It could have had something to do with some bad data that NHL 2K6 wrote to my Xbox Live gamertag.  I'm inclined to lean towards this option, especially since I was seeing the freezing even with everything saved on my memory unit and my HDD detached.  So if you have this freezing problem, the first thing I'd try is moving as much game data as you can to a memory unit, then delete your gamertag, then recover it straight to your memory unit.  If this fails, keep everything on the memory unit and reformat your HDD.

3.  NHL 2K6 could have written some bad data to my HDD - this would be independant from your Live gamertag.

4.  This is still a very real problem.  There is something wrong with how NHL 2K6 saves or loads games.  Until they recognize that this is a real problem affecting tons of people worldwide, it'll never get fixed.

Once again, reformatting is unnecessary. I have never reformatted my harddrive, never bought a memory card and my 2K6 works fine "after" recovering from the loading screen issue.

Well that's great that it worked for you. But I have tried that and it does the same thing. I can't get past the load screen after completing any game. I am not changing any lines....injuries off.........everything. I deleted my entire profile. Recreated it through xlive and everything. Same thing!!!! I refuse to delete and reformat my harddrive. I think I'm just going to stick this game up 2k sports a**! I am done with 2K sports. This is the worst game glitch that I have ever seen or even heard of. The game is worthless!!! Maybe I'll trade it in at Blockbuster!! That's an idea.

I copied my 2k6 files onto another gamer profile. Deleted my xbox live profile. went through the whole thing of redoing the whole thing. Then, if I remember corectly, I created another offline profile, moved the 2k6 files into there, deleted the other gamer profile I had, then everything seemed to work. Now maybe there was something that I did that I cant remember but thats the basic gist of what I did and it has been working ever since. However, I dont play online at all now. I am afraid to. It wasnt till I used my online gamer profile to play that it broke. So now I dont use my online profile at all, just my offline.

I do stress though that it is possible to get it working again without erasing your HD. Just play around with the profiles and and live profile and crap and it should start working again.

Let me know how much you get for it. I am so frustrated with the TERRIBLE goalie AI, that I might trade it in too.

I just found a new problem with the game.. After every game, as soon as the final whistle blows.. it goes right to the menu.. there is no 3 stars.. no instant replays... no dressing room.. soon as its over you go to the menu and thats it.

It does go to the main menu when you hit exit though.. so it could be worse

I got the game on Saturday (eBay) and tried to start a season. I had no problems setting up a profile or making a settings save. I played the first game of the season and at the end of the game when you go to exit it just sits on a 2K sports loading screen. I tired everything. I deleted my profile and settings so I could start from scratch. I tried to restart the season about six times with various save points, but nothing worked.

Looks like were not alone

Thats been happening to me as well. every time i play a game and it is over it stays in the loading screen.
