My fortress has Sadam on it Devil [6] ; I still got all the pieces too!

I really do hope they add more classic board games in a timely manor... not too many at once- wed need time to play em Wink [;)]

Thanks - Joe Striker

I'll throw out another one:  Nuclear War.  But, given how nasty some of the Catan players can be in the heat of the game, I'd hate to hear the comments from some of these guys when their cities get wiped out.  The game can get pretty ruthless.

Nuclear War would be awesome.  Would you want it without the expansions to begin with to keep it simple or just have them go all out with the countries and all the special cards?
Although the expansions are nice, the basic game is just fine.  I'd like to see them keep it simple, and maybe release expansion packs later.  The only problem with that is finding someone else to play with that also has the expansions.

Not really.  It'll just take about ten minutes for those without the expansions to download like when you play Uno and someone playing doesn't have the special deck you're playing with.

What I used to love playing online (on the PC) was Hasbro's "CLUE" - Murder at Boddy Mansion.

Got the CD out of a Cheerios box, and played it for HOURS!

I would LOVE to have that one on XBLA.

One thing that I learned from Catan is that a long board game can be shortened immensely over XBLA.  Why?  Well part of that is obvious.  The game does all of the card setup and such for you.  You don't need to worry about counting out pieces.  You don't have to worry about organization.  The game simplifies this process.  Also, you don't need to keep referring to rule books because the game won't allow you to break rules.  The longest parts of typical board games are simplified on XBLA.  A typical Catan board game can last two or more hours, but most games are less than an hour over XBLA.  One of the other things that XBLA Catan does nicely is it adds a turn timer.  I think some of the longer games, like Twilight Imperium and Arkham Horror, would be shortened to much more manageable lengths if the time consuming processes of setup, organization, piece management, etc were all shortened through automated processes, such as has been done with Catan.

To the folks who mentioned Games Workshop products - yeah, Bloodbowl would be sweet. Even if the base set came with just the four classic teams (humans, dwarfs, elves and orcs, of course), and downloads provided new teams and All Stars (Death Zone!).

I think a version of "DungeonQuest" would work too - it's a simple timeboxed, four player game - perfect for XBLive. Chainsaw Warrior would be too dry though, plus it's only single player, and hard to win. Anyone ever play TSR's Gammarauders board game? That was kinda fun too, and also pretty card based.

I just played Zombies the other night.  Not a half-bad game.  When the helo pad came up, I was clear across the map and had no way of getting back in time, so I concentrated on killing zombies and nailing my opponents with "buddy f***er cards."  I ended up winning easily.  Anyway, it's funny how many good board games there really are.

FYI, Talisman is coming out in November at the same time as the v4 board game release.  http://www.blackindustries.com

I would love to see DungeonQuest as well.  The achievements for that would be awesome since the odds of winning, or even making it out alive are so slim.

I'm posting in online forums ... somebody shoot me.

Yeah, I only ever owned & played the 2nd edition of Talisman (+adventure, +dungeon, +city, +timescape, +the four extra characters from WD). Never tried the reissues. That 'new version' actually looks very similar to my old version though. hunh.

According to Capcom's press release, "Talisman will be rolling its way onto Xbox LIVE Arcade, PLAYSTATION® Network and PC in Q4 2007..." I wonder if this PC version will be a 'Games For Windows' game, and maybe allow cross platform play...

A lot of these board game suggestions are nice, but they last too long. Even putting in a save feature wouldn't work. Are you going to get the same people to get together again another time? I doubt it. Sure, friends might, but that just doesn't work on live. You need to be able to finish games with the random people you meet.

Games that would be good and that aren't long are:

- Powergrid

- Caylus

- Puerto Rico

- Bonanza

- Alhambra

Well, I could go on with more. But those would do really well.

Alhambra has already been announced.  Catan, Carcassonne and Alhambra were all announced at the same time.  As for Puerto Rico, i've seen people mention it is coming also but don't know where people have heard that.
Only seen rumors of that.  Anyone see it really announced anywhere?

Wow - Avalon Hill - now we're talking!!!  That probably dates me a bit, but once an avid gamer - avid gamer for a long, long time.  The good ol' hex maps of AH and SSI were so cool - it seems that it would only be fitting on a computer - no chits to lose or get eaten by the dog.  LOL

ANYWAY, **GREAT** idea to have some of those brought into XBLA.  Also, nice if they weren't quite as "down-sized" as Catan.  The hex maps I remember were more like 50 x 80 hexes, not ~6-hex diameter!

That gives me hope of what to look for in the future.  Too cool!

Arkham Horror and Axis & Allies are my two top picks.  Also I really think a card game like Munchkin or Chez Geek would be fun to play and do fairly well on live.

Re: Catan is awesome, but we need more Board Games

I have 4 recommendations for new "Strategy Games" for Xbox live.

#1- Anything Avalon Hill related, new or old, specificly, the game "Titan"

#2- More classic Board games from Milton Bradley and/or Parker Brothers, like "Risk" or "Stratego."

#3- Any more of the newer German made board games, like "Taj Mahal" or "Phaeroh", just dont ask me who makes them, i do not know but I have player them once each to know that I like them.

#4- And my personal favorite Board game of all time "BLOOD BOWL", if they put that game on xbox live marketplace for download. I guarentee, they would see a surge of Xbox 360 sales!

But that is my 2 cents worth!

I agree, and most games are pretty easy to make.  For a school project, a friend and I made a fully working Stratego game in Java with AI and network play in about two weeks.  I think the problem is getting the liscense from the game companies to convert the game to XBLA.

I have to agree that I am enjoying both Catan and Carcassonne. Not normally a board game lover and have never before played these 2 games.

So hopefully they will listen to you and release other board games for the Arcade. It took me a while to get to know the game but I'm glad I took the time.

That's a game I always wanted to play, but never did.

There is a very good free recreation of RoboRally (minorly changed to avoid lawsuits) called RoboRunner at www.eyeplaygames.com

Re: Catan is awesome, but we need more Board Games

I have recently purchased the online versions of Carcassone and Backgammon. Just to show my love and support of the Board games! Both games are great games to speak of. Backgammon because it is so timelessly classic in nature. And even though I have only just begun to learn the workings of Carcassone, I believe that I will be spending many a hour on that game as well.

To the point of the matter at hand, the purest way to get the game developers attention to get more Board Games made for Xbox live download, is to buy them. The developers first and foremost take money into concideration. If they think that many people will buy the download versions of thier games, then it will only encourage them to do so, when they see that people are buying those said games.

I would have to agree that with whomever said it that, most board games would be easy to convert digitally to an online form for Xbox Live. If you notice how much memory is used per board game, those games really do not take up much space on your hard drive. Most board games are really easy to learn the rules to the game. It is learning the intricate strategems the determine whether you are a novice or a master player. Hence, for putting them up on Xbox Live, the biggest concern comes to Licencing rights. But those concerns are between Microsoft and the individual game companies to hammer out the details, or at least their teams of lawyers anyways!

BTW, If anyone is interested. I started another thread of "The Board Gamers Movement", on the xbox live marketplace grouping of threads. Please feel free if you feel the same way as I do, about getting more board games added to the Maketplace for download. The best way to get our wishes "across the board", is by showing them a large number of gamertags who would be interested in purchasing more downloaded content from them when offered it. Petitions do work!

"Microsoft should partner with Fantasy Flight Games and bring some of these to Xbox Live Arcade.  Arkham Horror would be a nice start.  Or how about Twilight Imperium."

Twilight Imperium is a great turnbased sci-fi wargame, people are too impatient and the game just wouldnt make it without a solid save feature. these kind of games also have alot of rules, and even on Xbox Live Arcade a single turn can take between 4-6 min for someone too calculate there scores and figure out where too put there pieces.for me this wouldnt be a problem, but for alot of people it would.

Something i would like too see, and that i think would be a huge Hit would be a revamped "new graphics etc", online version of X-Com, The Turnbased Tactical genre has been introduced by Band of Bugs, and that game could have been much better then it was, but i personelly believe that X-Com would just blow it up.

Re: Catan is awesome, but we need more Board Games
As far as time goes, having a computer do the math and keep track of everything speeds up the game quite a bit. Monopoly as a board game went from an hour or two down to a half an hour to an hour, and that was on the NES. I havent played any of the more modern boardgames alot but that is somehthing to be factored in as well.

Re: Catan is awesome, but we need more Board Games
I think they should bring Dungeons and Dragons, the board game. Except make it so the dungeons can be randomized for online play, and if you want to take the time, you could make your own. Make it so you could have a classic paper and pencil look, or a more realistic look with walls and stuff.
If you're seeing this signature, it probably means you made a stupid post. Please leave the thread immediately.
