Re: no video but i have audio
You can add me to this list.  Started with seeing discoloration and graphical glitches.  Finally progressed to the no video output, but audio output is fine.   I've got a repair box on the way.  This makes it repair #3 for me.

I've tried all the AV cables (standard, hd, and vga).  Even tried different TVs and monitors, but no dice.

I have this issue too.  It started with flickering in the screen that last about 2 weeks before the video eventually just went blank.  The sound works fine.  I used 3 different sets of AV cables and 2 different TVs, so it's definitely the console.

Re: no video but i have audio
I've had the same problem. White lines start going across the screen, and finally the video output drops out completely while audio continues. It's happened twice, and both times i was able to fix it by unplugging everything (video, power, hard drive, etc) and then putting everything back together. Very annoying though.

Apparently nobody plays games for fun anymore...

Same issue happened to me last night, after using my console a full year without incident.  I was playing oblivion, doing nothing out of the ordinary or unusual.  If Microsft can't release a fix, perhaps a class action lawsuit might help resolve the problem, especially if this list of victims keeps growing.  I haven't downloaded anything recently except the updates reccomended by XBOX Live.  This is definitely related to some firmware upgrade or update Microsoft put out.  It would be nice to see Microsoft  acknowledge the issue and at least promise to look into it, rather than ignore the elephant in the room.

Re: no video but i have audio

Same problem for me .  The screen is black with tiny white dots floating across or it starts and then locks... I knew the routine... Flashing red circle was next... took about another day and of course another $140 bucks as warranty had just run out... again. When I said the workmanship was not up to par since this is the same issue again on a different xbox and I should not have to pay for something that was supposed to be fixed I was greeted with "Do you want to send it back.. YES OR NO".. very rude customer service. I told them yes but at their cost and I was then told "You will have a new 1 yr Warranty so if it happens again".. I could not believe it.. Microsoft apparently has thrown in the towel on this and just keeps charging people for the fix.. Pretty good business model. $350 for a xbox and then every 6 months to 1 year they get another $140....In the business world that would be called recurring support fees.

this happened to me too! and i called the service people only to hear them say that they had never heard of it before. suprisingly, the towel trick worked for about a day, but itl cost 140 bones to fix the damn thing

same thing happened to me while playing halo 2 (it almost sounds like there are a bunch of similar games that cause it? ive mostly read halo 2 and forza 2.......)

but how can everybody have the same issue around the same time.......

this has to be an error of a patch or firmware update or something. i cant believe we have to dish out 140 to fix something that we did not do!

this is ridiculous microsoft!!!

people should keep replying to this thread if it has happened to them. maybe if microsoft sees that a bunch of people have the issue, they wont charge us.

Re: no video but i have audio
My brother's Xbox360 did the same thing.  I tried to help him troubleshoot, to no avail.  We tried different video inputs on the TV, a different TV, as well as different set of A/V cables.  We even tried performing a blind reset to factory config, but nothing worked, except the audio.

The warranty was going to be a hassle, so he replaced it through Best Buy.

Is it reasonable to believe that they'll release a software update that will fix this problem? It's happening to so many people surely they understand that it's not a coincidence.

My box will be a year old either this week or next, and I'd rather not send it in and be out of the box for a month only to have them send me a refurbished one.

The same has happened to me as well yesterday on my launch 360. I was playing Oblivion when the colors repeatedly became distorted. Eventually, the video just went away, with the screen staying blank, but sound is still there. I've tried unplugging everything, no dice.

I don't know how MS is going to fix this with a patch of some kind if we can't see what's happening on our 360s.

i had the same issues as all of you, after shutting off and on trying to get some video and trying different games, i finally got the 3 red lights of death, called M$ and they shipped a box, after a loooooooooong wait, finally got a replacement. so that is what will need to be done if you have these issues. doesnt seem to be another way to fix this.

Re: no video but i have audio

My problem started a couple of weeks ago with my display showing green tints after a few minutes of play and then just wouldn't display anything after restarting it.  Now all I get is audio.  I've had my system since launch and this is the first time that I've had a problem with it.

I will be sending it to the repair center tomorrow.

I hope an answer surfaces as to why this is happening all of a sudden to so many people.

Ugh, as much as I don't want to admit it, my 360 is suffering the same. It's a tad bit different than everyone elses problems, but it still relates to video output.

I've been playing my 360 heavily as of late, most of the time playing Gears of War or GRAW2. After I broke my foot today (yay!), I decided to blow some stuff up. Mid-mission my 37inch Westinghouse LCD just blanked completely. No white lines, no nothing. Just a black screen with the 360 still roaring away.

Seriously, I hope this is a firmware issue. If not, I may be trading this in and getting a PS3. I'm an adament 360 fan, but *some* PS3 games are better than playing no 360 games.

Re: no video but i have audio

Same thing here.

I was playing Forza 2 and the video looked somewhat 'distorted'. There was a ghosting in the image and the colors where out and the image flickered a little bit (horizontal distortion lines). First I though a video cable must be loose so I checked all the cables, but the problem remained.

I then tunred the Xbox 360 off and turned it back on and the problem went away. I guess I got lucky to turn it off soon enough before something broke alltogether.

Just another wide-spread manufacturing defect for Microsoft to ignore :(

Re: no video but i have audio

I am on my second xbox360 and this sort of stuff started happening to me while i was playing gears last week. i thought it was my game disc, i checked it and it looked perfect. Later when i was playing it the game froze with vertical white dotted lines i rebooted tryed again and then i had no video. Eventually if i try enough it works long enough to play for a few hours. It is annoying. Hopefully when it finally rests in peace on me microsoft will fix it for free i still have my warranty for them and an extended one from toys r us

I'm okay with the concept of things breaking down, but I need a reason why.  Microsoft really owes its customers an explanation as to what happened.  I am a system engineer and I do not believe in coincidences.  Why have so many of us had this happen to our 360s at almost the same time with the same symptoms.  For my part, my launch console has worked flawlessly until this happened at about the same time as everybody else in this thread and others.  I have never seen such a coordinated widespread hardware failure that almost seems like it was set to fail on a timer.  I've already paid my 140 dollars for repair, but I would like to know the exact, technical reason for the video display failure!   Somebody at MS needs to step up to the plate and give us the truth.
My 360 has been sitting in Dallas UPS for the last 2 days waiting to depart for McAllen Texas.   I shipped it out Friday morning at 10AM so I now know that "3-day select" means at least 4 business days since my box is set to be delivered on the 27th.  I count 4 business days there, assuming that it actually gets to the repair center tomorrow.  I will never use 3-day select to ship anything again.

I have had this since launch day, 6 person in line and I have never had a problem. I just recently pre ordered 11 games, all the good ones coming out this year including the darkness. I guess instead of sending it off to micosoft I will just go get a new xbox and maybe just trade this POS in

That happened to me except i was playing shadow run. like the color started messing up, and so i restarted it and all i could hear was audio and started it up again and got the red lights. But i can't turn it in cause i lost the warrenty sticker. Even thought i never opened the counsole ever, i was considered, "tamering with the counsole" Microsoft dissapoints me when it comes to it's products.

The first time I called and they said they would ship a box and I would get the tracking number in my e-mail i waited a week and nothing. I called back and the lady who actually spoke english finally gave me a tracking number but in the ups system they had not even pick it up yet that was three weeks ago it took 9 days to get to me (yes two of those days were saturday and sunday) and another four like you to get it back there so I feel your pain on waiting every day I get told to call back tomorrow that they should send my console back to me tomorrow but tomorrow comes and they tell me its still there which I hope that means they will fix the video Problem and not send me a refurbished one unless someone out the has gotten theirs back and it was refurbished let me know please!

Re: no video but i have audio
I have had exactly the same symptoms as others on this list.  I bought Colin McCrae DIRT, Video started to develop icky colours as if parts of the palette are missing.   All of the textures dissappeared.   Restarted the console, no video, all of the sound is fine, absolutely crysal clear.   I have tried a new video cable and also switched from HD to composite.  Absolutely angered and frustrated.   I have had the console since its release in November 2005 and no problems.   Clearly there has been some sort of ROM update which is causing the console to fail.

Expect I won't get a bean out of Microsoft, who are very unlikely to admit that there is a problem.

Microsoft if you are reading this and you care about your customers send out an ROM update that I can get onto my console Sad [:(]

Sadly, I am getting the same error.  it started a few days ago with a couple of little color distortions on the menu screens in Crackdown.  Now the screen will internittantly go black.  SOmetimes it comes back, sometimes it doesn't.

I agree that is seems ridiculous that this is happening to a lot of people all at the same time.

Of course, the other option is that it is happening to a lot of people constantly, and that we are just starting to realize it.

If I have to send it in for repairs, will my harddrive be spared?  I'd hate to lose saved games and marketplace downloads.

Re: no video but i have audio
that was a problem M$ was having a few weeks back. They were all out of those boxes to ship to you or anyone else for that matter.

When i got my box and sent it out it got to them on a wed. i believe. A whole week and a day went by, so i called up and they told me all the info they had was that it was received. They couldnt tell me what was wrong with it or when i would get it back. They then told me to call back in 48hrs, yes business hrs, so by monday they would have information. So that means that they had it for 7 business days and no info to tell me, Luckily on that sunday, i got a automated call from UPS about a shipment coming to my home on the next day. Nothing call or email from Microsoft still which pissed me off cause it proves that the customer service is crap. I dont hold the tech support side any fault, it seems that they did what they had to do. but customer service was clueless.
