Try re-connecting to the wireless network by editing the 3rd box on the edit settings option. Fill in your security if you have any and test again. If it still fails your router might not have DHCP enabled or a few other things.

Ok in that same edit settings list do you see an IP address like 192.168... or is it 0.0.0.0or a variation of 192.168.15.1

is it possible at all to still play xbox live on the original xbox or have they canceled that and u can only play it on 360 cause i dont have 360 yet and i want 2 play halo 2 online

thanks mate i really appreciate it cause im not gunna b able 2 play live on my 360 when i get it cause it will b at my dads house and he does have internet or a computer there yet so im gunna b able 2 play halo 2 at home on my xbox its gunna b fun thanks :)

my x box live just decide to quit on me and i have good router and it just wont connect no ip adress no nottin jussst stopped it worked for 3 weeks then it stopeed worikin

If you fail at IP then you either have a manual IP setup and its incorrect or you DHCP is off. If you have a manual IP entered change it back to auto. It should work from there. If it doesn't its a router setting (DHCP turned off.)

Yes you can use the same gamertag. See my account recovery section of the main FAQ for details on how to do that. You need the same email and password you provided to log in here.

so ok. let me clear this up to make sure u read right. please dont gget mad im curious. now i created a gamercard on xbox.com, now im afraid that once i join xbox live in 2 weeks that i wont be able to use the username that i created on xbox.com, on xbox live with a new account. is that how u read my post???

No you can do exactly that. Thats how it shows all the games I've played on my 360 over here

When you get to that first screen on your 360 you'll select the recover gamertag option and enter in the email and password you used to log into this site. They can peacefully exsist together because there one in the same

Hi.

I've had my 360 a few months now and I'm trying to get setup on xbox live to try out halo3.  I see Duzzyman wrote about about the game updates taht appear from time to time.

This is the one thing breaking my heat right now.

I am connected, IP ok, DNS ok, ICMP ok but when it checks the xbox live it gives the message "Update Required, An update is available for your console for xbox live. If you decline you will be signed out."

I'm not actually signed in yet, but anyway if I select no then I just go back to where I was before doing nothing and if I say yes then I get this: "Update Failed, Canot download the update. Check settings in network connections and try again or elseo go o xbox.com/support".

When I got to network settings and check there it says that everything is ok and then tried xbox live and I get teh update required message which fails again.  I checked space and it's ok at 11gig.

The error code is :

W 0000 000B

X 0000 F001

Y 20A8 4840

Z 8015 1007

Can anyone shed light on this as I can't find it in the support anywhere.  I have a gamertag etc and just want to get to the nice orange screen and put in my promotional code.  As I said, the cable is fine and all connections are ok but the 'update required' is killing me.  Any help would be great.

im having exactly the same problem with my connection..
in case it helps i have my xbox set up with one end of the ethernet cable attached to the xbox360 and the other end into the wall. i live in an apartment building with broadband so normally this works for my PC but not for the xbox :( can anyone help?

I got it sorted last night.

It was my modem and it's ports not being open.  I had to set my modem to low (firewall setting) and the download worked fine.  On the modem settings it has  setting to open the posts for xboxlive so that was handy.

I'm having problems.  When I turn on my Xbox 360, it says I signed into Xbox Live.  Then, I go into Halo 2, and after I enter my profile, it asks me if I want to log into Xbox Live, but when I do, it says I need to use the trouble shooter.  So I go there, and everything's fine.  Wired, check.  IP, check.  Everything else, (other than wireless, but I use Ethernet anyway) check.  Everything is fine, I connect to Xbox Live just fine when I log in, but when I try to on Halo 2, it doesn't work.  It worked on Halo 2 last night too!  What should I do?

I got a question about xbox live.  I have wireless internet in my house.  I got my xbox next to my computer upstairs in my house wheres theres no way to connect it to xbox live without a wireless adapter.  Since i don't want to spend money on anymore wirless adapters, is there a way i can put the ethernet cord into my xbox and put the other end directly into my computer.  Would this set up allow me to connect to xbox live through my computer?

Also i got a regular ethernet router that i dont use, would that help any?

 

If your already talking about wireless adapters you likely have a modem in which case just connect one LAN for each device like port one for the PC and port two for the console. If your location restranits give you a wireless PC then yea you can use ICS to connect the PC and the 360 but the PC must either have two ethernet ports or it must be connected to your network wirelessly and have its ethernet port open for use.

yeah i gotta USB wireless adapter for my pc so my ethernet port is open.  So i just take a ethernet cord from the xbox to my pc

Hi, i have a question about content #5, could you please help me solve this please? As you said in the text that, after recover the GamerTag to your xbox (360), you will be giving a one month free gold member ship. I just recover my GamerTag, which i just singed up with xbox.com 2 days ago, but it doesn't give me the one month free gold membership. And on top of that, i have the 360 elite, which suppose to come with a one month free gold membership, which i do not know how to activate it. Can you please explan to me more about how this thing are work out? When i sign up with xbox.com, i used a computer to signed up with, so is this okay with? or do i actually have to sign up with the xbox system is self, to get the one month free gold membership? When you recover the account you get to one screen asking you what type of memebership you want and it lists the prices. At that screen select the silver memebership and then on the next screen it will say somthing like "this profile is eligible for a free month of live" and then allow you to continue. It might not take effect untill the end of the recovery process.

Dude correct me if I'm wrong. Is the 30 day Gold trial only applicable upon purchasing a console and first time connecting it to Live? Because I think new silver subscribers are not given this option, both created on the xbox.com and the dashboard. Would really appreciate your help, thanks.

If you want your free 30 day trial you must sign up/create your tag on the console, not on Xbox.com

OK, here's my problem. I'm am/have been connecting to xbox live through a modem. Whenever I switch from pc-to-xbox or xbox-to-pc I've always just switched ethernet cords into the back of the modem, then unpluged and repluged the modem. And it's always worked just fine. But now it wont sign me into xbox live. Whenever I switch back to my PC, everything is ok, but when I try to hook up to xbox live, it says it cant. When I do a test run, it fails at IP address. I have no idea why cause it's never had a problem before, it's simply set to Automatic and I see my 162.12.143.... ISP there, but it wont connect. Any ideas or thoughts?

Those who use T6 Broadband may not be able to connect to Xbox Live. They will be able to download off the marketplace but not play online. To solve this problem, call T6 and tell them to set your internet to a bridge connection. You will then be able to connect. Took me forever to finally get mine working and I hope this helps solve someones problem.

Sorry i didnt get to reply as soon as i could, but thanks for the help trying to explain how to get the 30 days trail. well anyway, the every next day i called xbox, and they check up my xbox code and everything, and they said that my 30 days trail was worned out already. im like.. what? isnt it suppose to activate when you first connect to the xbox live? but i was too OMG about it, so i just tried to calm down and not talk about it. and as a result to this problem, i just get a 1 month gold sub. card. But that lead me to another problem, when ever i tried to add a GammerTag (friend from school), it said that the gammer tag is not valid.. or something like that, but that person could add me. anyone know how to solve this?
