Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I have recently had this problem also. I got my 360 back from being repaired for the "RRoD" just three weeks ago.

After playing Mass Effect for about 5 hours (was the first time I'd played the game), I started getting blue hues and strobing on the screen. At first, I thought it was a special light halo or aurora effect in the game, but then I noticed it starting to flash. A while after, I noticed all the dark grey areas of the game being tinted green, and when I bought the dashboard blades up, they were the same.\

I tried restarting the console, which had no effect. I then connected to my HDTV using VGA cables, which seemed to solve the problem (although I could only play in 640x480 - which is ugly on a TV). However, upon trying the component cables again and restarting the console, there was no video output whatsoever, even when I then tried the VGA cables again.

As a result, I'm sending it off again tomorrow for the SECOND time. Hopefully, they'll just replace the console this time. According to the documentation that I got last time, the repaired/replaced the motherboard. There is no RRoD this time, just a complete lack of video, which is a common and documented problem after user experience video colour rendering issues.

omg, this is the exact same thing that happened to me except I was playing skate. I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem, I thought I was the only one, but now i see that im not. I think M$ better start giving 3yr warranties for all problems instead of just RRoD. I thinks its rather unfair that those people get special treatment over everyone else.

exactly, To me I think it's complete bs that the warranty extentision only covers 1 type of problem.  I'm having the same problem and i've also had the console replaced because of the red rings

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
I have the same problem. I have one of the original xbox 360s.

I turned it on a few days ago to play halo 3. while i was loading the game in the lobby, the screen went blue and red and yellow and green. i turned it off, and i turned my 360 back on. but it wouldnt even go to the dashboard or the wierd colors. it just stayed on the input channel. i use a normal tv, not an hd.

so, i left it off for a few days because i was busy, and a few mins ago i turned it back on and put cod 4 in to play that. the game loaded fine and my xbox turned on. but in the middle of a match the tv went black and the wierd colors came back. i could still hear sound because i was shooting the gun and i had perfect sound.

whatever is happening this is real horse ***.

I don't think its those games that are doing it cause I never played any of those games. VF5 could be added but I don't think its the games. I just hope they find a solution to this. I'm still waiting to save up a $100 to get it repaired and I need to get a credit card too. Kinda stupid that its credit card only IMO. *sighs* I was kinda hopeing to bring it with me on vacation during Christmas...XP

Same thing here too. I was playing Call of Duty 4 and the graphics started looking kind of like a painting, or like the video card was not able to produce all of the colors needed for the game or something. Anyways, I am going to send in for repairs but this should be free considering all of the posts on this thread.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Wow this is pretty crazy

Add me too - I went to play Halo 3 the other night and the component video output wont work at all in any of my monitors that take component input (used to work fine) the composite works fine (but ugly) and the digital audio output works . Just no output from the component cables.

I have an extra warranty on the xbox so hopefully i can get a new one no problem ... but i am surprised (and comforted) to see so many people having the same issue in such a short period of time

Ill keep you posted.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Count me in as well. Just this weekend, after a few days of the "water color" effect... and bloop, no more video. The dashboard and/or game/dvd sounds are still there... audio is fine, but video is lost to the winds of time and poorly constructed videogame hardware woes.

I called it in today, only to be asked to call again later due to computer problems on their end. Ironic.

Anyhow, my console is dust free, well ventilated, and babied... but, it died anyhow... sigh...

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Just want to chip in with my version.  I don't have COD4 so that can't be it.  I do have Halo 3.  This first happened to me when I was playing Arcade Doom .  Sound is fine but my screen flickers with colours and then my tv says there is no input.  It happens after about 5 minutes of playing now in all the games I have tested on my console.

This sucks.

Just to bump my own topic.  When I switch to non-HD output everything seems to work fine.  Allthough I'd never realized just how much difference HD makes!

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem

Loaded up Saints Row 2 days ago, an update was available. Loaded that and was about to play Saints when I realised Assasins Creed had arrived in the post that day so went to load that and the colors all washed out. Turned off the 360, turned it back on and got no signal.

Hasnt worked since.

Rubbish!!!!

Better cal MS today i suppose.

Mines a launch console and had a bit of freezing a few times but no other problems until now.

I'm experiencing the EXACT same problems, only this started happening THE MOMENT I turned it on after JUST getting it back from Microsoft after they fixed the RROD issue. GREAT support system they're running...sending me back an even MORE broken Xbox. THANK YOU MICROSOFT! PS3 & Wii are my new best friends!

I just love Micrsoft support, they wouldn't care if my xbox exploded and killed a baby

I've got the same problem.  Happened first when playing Assassin's Creed.  Hope they fix it and I don't ever have to send in my xbox again cause they've screwed this crap up for me 3 times already.  I originally called on the 26th of November, but they just shipped the box today.  I'm pissed right now.  I better not get some refurbished piece of crap.

I'm added to the list, played Halo 3 for a little bit and the colors got blured, reset the console now I just hear sounds and no video display. After being out for 3 years you think M$ would get their s**t together with the 360 but no, it's still faulty.

Seeing all the complaints on here makes me glad I'm not alone, also makes me glad I got a Wii, at least I have that to fall back on since Nintendo knows thier stuff...

Hmm..  I actually had this happen to me well over a year ago with Gear of War.   It happened a few times (colors just went kinda of weird in game and on dashboard.)   I turned the 360 off and pretty much forgot about it.  I actually haven't seen it since that time.  I've had the 360 since close to launch.

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Another one for the list!! I started noticing the colours on halo3 had started to look abit funny over the past couple of days. I started playing cod4 tonight and then all the colours went funny, the blacks where a strange blue so i decided to restart the console & guess what......no video & sound only. I tried disconnecting the hd cable & using the scart but the same thing, although i got my brother to check and i still log into live when i turn the console on so its got to be a problem with the video output. m$ are going to repair the xbox but it no gaming for me over the christmas holidays though :(

Re: XBOX 360 video output problem
Alright, so I have this problem too, and I want to get my xbox 360 replaced for free, but Microsoft is only replacing consoles with the red rings, which I do not have; however, I believe that this problem is basically the same as red rings because it is a hardware failure and should therefore be replaced for free.

Let me show you my line of reasoning:
If the problem isn't with the TV or the AV cables it is obviously a hardware problem, right? And if the display is not working, it is a video card problem, right? And if the video card is not showing anything it is a video card failure, right?

Well, if these are all true (which, seemingly, they are) then the xbox 360 is broken due to a hardware failure, as a video card is a piece of hardware that failed. This is significant because the "cause" of the red rings of death, according to xbox.com is a hardware failure. So, I feel like my xbox is just as broken as one with red rings and for the same reasons, but I don't have those darn rings so I can't get it replaced.

Does anyone else agree?
