Hello,

Some Xbox 360 games load data into the Hard Drive’s cache, which can become fragmented over time, which may affect the gameplay. Clearing the cache may be beneficial in these instances. In order to do this please follow the these steps:

- Go the “System” blade on the Xbox 360 main menu.
- Select Memory.
- Highlight the Hard Drive, then press Y to view the device options screen.
- On the Xbox 360 controller, press X twice, then the left bumper, then the right bumper, the then X button twice again.
- You will be prompted to confirm system maintenance. Select Yes by pressing A.

This will clear the system cache and defragment the fragmented data. Be advised that this will also delete any Microsoft Updates for your games (not downloadable content), however these will be downloaded automatically the next time you play these games while connected to Xbox Live

 

 

I read about this on a different website and came here to see if it was true.  I guess a lot of people are having problems with this game freezing up, but I don't know what's causing it.  I played yesterday for about 2 hours strait and the game never froze once.  I wonder what's going on and if it's fixable.  I'm guessing it's bad discs, but I won't know until I play more to see if mine freezes.  Goodluck to all, and hopefully a fix comes soon.

My system is vertical, but I don't think that's the issue. I wonder why clearing the cache has all of the sudden become the catch-all answer to every problem we have with a game...

I play a lot of different games, and I don't really feel like downloading updates again for the next month just so a single game that should work out of the box actually will.

Sounds like a good suggestion to me. You will notice a similar suggestion in step #5 of our freezing article.

well I remember that wwe smackdown 2007 would freeze bad. it was due to where the disks where made. and a patch fixed it the fallowing day. it was due to xbox live not working on it. it would try to connect to live while you where playing causeing tons of probloms

I havent tried it yet - will get back to it tonight.  Not very confident though.

i froze once in 2 hours.i did the clear cache trick and so far no freezes after one hour.i will keep posting.

This is why I never buy anything on the first day of release. I like to kick back and relax to see the problems role in.

hmm, I tried the trick and still my game froze twice in about an hour.

Mine didn't freeze last night when I was playing, but it locked up twice tonight.  Both times when I initiated a fight.
highly annoying.  First game that locked up on my brand new Elite. (made in February.)  It damned well better not be the new xbox!

 

I bought the game and had 3 freezes within an hour so i took it back and got a new one figuring the disk was screwed in some way. the one i have now hasent froze once. now i dont know if in just imagining this but i swear the first one i had had white text for the loading screen and the new one i have has yellow. is it possible i have a different version of the one i had before? did they know they had *** copies and fix the game but sell the *** ones anyway?

Well, I'm about to try it since I just had 3 freezes in a little over an hour and finally decided to give up and watch the Hawks game instead.  I'll come back in a bit and let you know...

Well for me over 8 hours straigh no freezing, just perfect, stop playing to gives a pause to my elite to cold down.

I have a new elite brand in january.

I havnt had any problems at all, i have a 5 month old elite, but i think this might be a rare messed up disc kind of thing

Well, that's a start, I guess.  Consider this game shelved until there's a patch or something... before my return period is up.  Otherwise, back to the store it goes.

 

After clearing the cache, I got maybe another 20 minutes out of it before another freeze.  Except this time, right after I cleared it, the game skipped every few minutes until it finally crashed - so pick your poison.  One note about their statement: my Xbox is less than a year old, manufacture date of this past August, I think - so as far as affecting just "older Xboxes"...

 

This is a wonderful game - let's hope there's some progress soon.

I can't get through Halloween without the game freezing. Three times so far. Now I'm getting peeved. Don't have any problems with my other games.

My Set-up

Is this problem confined to one region or is it a mix of US/European issues. Maybe not many have a European copy yet though I suppose.

got the PAL version today
played for 2 hours and NO lockups

i did have fps issues and slow like everyone else though

this is the same problem the ps2 version of the game had. I will not get this game until they release a patch for it.

got mine yesterday..played all damn night..no freezes at all.just a glitch,cuz its reading the disc...this game rules!

I've experienced 3 freezes so far. Very frustrating losing progress. UK game and a one month old Elite console. All three freezes have occured outside of the school in the town.

Can someone say something about the loading time?

A review on the tv it loads as fu*** and it takes way to long for next gen...

My first freeze JUST happened.... as I was destroying Santa's castle.

mine froze too, right after I got the red ninja outfit. my system in horizontal and has plenty of breathing room. The power brick is on a flat surface off of the floor and has plenty of space too. Don't they test these things before they ship them?

I took my disc back to the retailer and got it replaced.  (Each retailer has it's own rules for that kind of stuff so...) anyways, the first copy I had froze at least every other mission.  My copy played great through last night and I pretty much played it all day, and had absolutely no freezes whatsoever.  I am forced to consider that it is an issue of variation between different discs.  But hopefully it's an issue that the patch can take care of either way.  Good luck.
