Madden 09 is terrible, dont waste your $$$  Gamespot gave Madden 09 a 8.0   I usually go by what they say, and they are always on the mark or close.  Madden 09 looks cartoonie, nothing even close to a real NFL football game!  The gameplay is way off, full of glitches, bugs and freezing issues!  And the overall presentation of a real NFL football game is still not even close!

I loved 2K5. Definitely one of the greatest football games ever released. I truly believe the game was way too before it' time to be appreciated like it should have been.

Re: I miss ESPN NFL 2K5
Yes you can get new rosters, here's how.

There's a person named PUJA21 on operationsports.com that makes the best rosters every year for this game.  He adds all the rookies, updates the attributes & all the trades and releases.  The new ones are supposed to be ready by the start of the NFL season.  Also has the 08-09 schedule for download to.

To Get Rosters onto your 360:
What you NEED:
1) A Transfer Cable and it's software (you can download xport360 and xplorer360 for free just google it so no need to worry about that)
2) An xbox 360
3) Copy of NFL 2k5
4) A computer or laptop running windows (macs do not work)

First, before you even think about updating rosters, there is no other way to get them onto your 360 HD but to use a transfer cable to hook up your HDD to your CPU. There are 3 cables you can get. Xport and Xsata are 2 cables you can purchase. Best bet is online on amazon or ebay, but I know if your lucky you can find one at circuit city, gamestop, bestbuy, etc. I suggest you look around...

The third cable is the Microsoft HDD transfer cable which is free. In order to get this you will need to call 1800-4my-xbox and ask them to send you the cable through mail. I know many people have had a hard time getting xbox to send it to them because the purpose of these cables are to transfer your files from the 20gb HDD to the 120gb HDD. Sometimes they ask for proof of purchase but i know people that have gotten it sent to them no problem. People who purchase a bigger HDD for their 360 are the ones who need this cable. IF YOU DO GET THIS CABLE YOU MUST DOWNLOAD XPLORER360 or XPORT360*recommended*

YOU CANNOT USE A DATEL TRANSFER KIT BECAUSE YOU CANNOT STORE XBOX 1 GAMESAVES ONTO A 360 MEMORY CARD. IT USES A DIFFERENT FILE SYSTEM.

How to transfer rosters onto 360....

*IF YOU HAVE NEVER PLAYED NFL 2K5 ON YOUR 360 BEFORE:
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOME SORT OF NFL 2K5 GAMESAVE ON YOUR XBOX360 HD (ex. save your VIP or settings just so you have the nfl2k5 folder on your harddrive that you can open later on when you transfer roster to your harddrive. if you dont get it then dont worry just make sure you have something from the game saved on your HD)*

1) hook up hard drive to your computer using transfer cable
2) download roster file
3) click Open roster file
4) unzip file ( to do this click "extract all files" in folder tasks which is on left side of window. extraction wizard will pop up. hit next, next, then finish.)
5) double click to open UDATA folder
6) double click to open next folder (should say something like "53450030")
7) there you will see a single folder labeled with numbers and letters and 4 .xbx files. ALL YOU NEED IS THE NUMBERED FOLDER. NOT THE .xbx FILES. THAT FOLDER IS THE ONLY THING YOU WILL DRAG onto the 360 hard drive....
8) Open the "xport 360/xplorer360/xsata" or w.e program you have, depending on what transfer cable your using.
9) A window will come up and you will select your HDD (it will most likely come up as "Device 1: XBox 360 Hard Disk Drive Size 20.00 GB) and then click "OK" or "OPEN"
10) Now select "Xbox 360 Devices Connected to My Computer"
11) then select "device 1:xbox 360 hard disk drive size 20.00 gb"
12) select: partition 3> compatability> xbox1> UDATA> 53450030 (this is why you needed a gamesave, that is the nfl 2k5 gamesave)
13)Finally drag the folder mentioned in step 6 to the right side of the window with all the other gamesaves listed. (It should automatically drop in and copy into the HD)

Put the harddrive back on you 360, load the game, go to settings, and load the new save. Enjoy!

One of the best video games of all time!! The presentation was absolutely incredible. Berman's haltime show and post game highlights were classic. Maybe with some luck the NFL will open up the license for a 2011 game.

Oh yea definitely NFL2K5 is what scared EA and made them really get a hold of the NFL license.  2K5 received the highest scores of a sports title especially football title and also sold over a million copies easily.  Now we will never get to find out what Visual Concepts can do with a football game on a next gen title.  All Pro proved nothing, because they had nothing to work with.

Well, I read OXM's review for Madden 09 and the game looks pretty promising. They gave it a 9.0 and I think I might just buy Madden this year..

Hmm, Well the only Madden game I bought on the old Xbox was Madden '04 with the training mode. Madden has yet to release a cool game mode on the 360. Doubling the framerate from '07 was great, but playing franchise mode over and over again gets repetitive.

Every year Maddens games has been getting better ratings.  Even when NFL2k5 was out, Madden football game was getting better ratings.  Now, explain that to me? Oh wait I know why. Theirs no competition since EA has rights to NFL. I truly miss ESPN NFL 2k5 football, it was the game for me at that time. I going to get depressed if I continue to talk about the game, only because I miss it. I don't play it that much anymore.  I do have the game still. *sigh*

Peace out!!

I kept with Madden 09 until the start of October mainly because of the Superstar mode, which despite being clearly neglected and underdeveloped by EA was probably the most fun part of the game for me.

Then this week I got around to hooking back up my PS2 and playing some 2k5. Not only do the graphics not look 4 years out of date, but after playing the "newest and best" with Madden 09 it still didn't seem that far off.

I think I'll be trading in Madden this week.

I disagree that it's been every game.

NFL 2K5 developed by Visual Concepts

NFL2K5 Review  - 9.4/10
NFL 2K5 User Reviews Average  - 9.2/10
NFL 2K5 Press Review Average - 9.1/10

Madden NFL 05 developed by Electronic Arts

Madden NFL 05 Review - 9.5/10
Madden NFL 05 User Reviews Average - 7.9/10
Madden NFL 05 Press Review Average - 9.0/10

So as you can see only IGN rated it one extra than 2K5, but when your read the review the presentation for NFL2K5 is simply amazing, with ESPN and Chris as the anchor it was very original.  Now Madden 05 was probably the best one I've ever played and is easily up there with it, but it wasn't original that is the only thing that separates the two titles.

Also in the reviews  the users seem to enjoy NFL2K5 a lot more and so does the press.

I'm sure that the Maddens before that probably had higher scores, but they better since Madden has been around for so long.

Yea same here pal.  I knew the game was good but I didn't know such big gaming sites such as IGN would rate it a nice 9 and above.  Now I see why it was rated that high, the game is great.  Also Madden NFL 05 was good too, I thought it had the best music and some great presentation in a long time.

It truly is the best all around football game ever made.  You can play the normal way in third person or in 1st person which was really a blast.  Those who have played football in the past will really appreciate 1st person football.  The presentation is off the chain.  It was originally 19.99 but worth the 49.99 all the other new games for the xbox was.  The xbox version was the best version.  The graphics engine was designed for the xbox and the highlight showed on the xbox where the ps2 only had photos of highlights.

That makes sense, because me and my Uncle were Madden junkies for years and only bought 2K5 over Madden because of that price tag --- brought it over --- and I just didn't have enough time to get into it like I wanted to. Looking around now, I wasn't understanding the cult following it still has but my experience was on a PS2.

I think I'll give it another shot. Just sucks that there's no choice for us, the consumers. I'd rather have 10 crappy NFL games on the market every season, then being forced to buy one. Excuse me, EA still gives us Head Coach and NFL Street. My bad.
