Re: Jasper Sightings

oh yes it got a little bit tense in here. I just stood back for my own safety. Party!!! [<:o)]

Back on topic, so when exactly is it most likely to spot or even purchase a 360 with the new improvement (Jasper). I ask because I'm selling my 360 this weekend to an uncle and I was wondering how long I would have to wait until the new Consoles are in good full circulation. ???

I agree. I don't like it when some guy comes out of nowhere and tells me something other than what any credible news source tells me but doesn't tell me who he is.

People lie about stuff like that all the time. And like MJF, I have no idea who Fusker is. I can't tell who Fusker is unless he tells me. So how am I supposed to believe something I have no basis to believe in?

You can't just source yourself from a post unless people know who exactly you are. Because all I could see was a level 4 community user spouting stuff that had no base.

PARALYZED CELLS: Try late September or early October. Best time would probably be the end of October-ish, I'd guess. For full circulation though, after Christmas. See Fusker's post here: http://forums.xbox.com/2/21585429/ShowPost.aspx#21585429

*OutwarLackey123* Thnx for your response but,

Now something way off topic but something sort of related. I googled Jasper GPU and had a result of hundreds of pages containing info on my search. Well I basically went through the first page and almost everysite I browsed it talked about the Falcon, Jasper, Opus and Valhalla . I understand the Falcon GPU is already common but, what i couldn't understand was all the talk about Opus and Valhalla. Are those future consoles being developed to fix technical failures.

I searched the Xbox archives and came up with a thread talking about Opus were replacement consoles with no HDMI ports. And I guess Valhalla is a future developement for the Xbox 360. I'm really really confused here. I would appreciate the help in clearing this up for me. Whats actually going on with M$'s plans for the xbox360. Like i mentioned before I'm getting rid of my current 360 and I would like to get, bascially the lastest and newest 360 out. In order to enjoy my experience w/out the need to keep worrying about RROD,motherboard failures, over heating issues....etc.

I ask you all because you all seem to have a good understanding of whats going on with the Xbox. Me in the other hand gots barely a year of favoring the Xbox 360 and getting involved in the Forums.....

Let me clarify this for you. The first motherboards are commonly called Xenon or something like that. (There was probably something in between this one and the next one. Doesn't matter much though.)

The next one, Falcon motherboards are 65nm CPU/80nm GPU units. Opus are simply replacement Falcon motherboards for older Xenon units with the HDMI ports taken off the motherboard.

Which currently brings us to Jasper which most everyone is currently waiting for. It will have a 65nm GPU and 65nm GPU which should for the most part solve the RRoD problems of overheating.

The final motherboard that we know about is Valhalla which will put the GPU and CPU in one 65nm chip. There's no known release yet for that though.

So the most current and best 360 you would want to wait for and get are the Jasper units. (Which is what I'm personally waiting for before I buy an Xbox 360.)

All true... now the question is will MS go cheap and try to reduce the cost of the EXPENSIVE heat sink arrangement now that they have a cooler chip (65nm GPU) in there?  If so... we could go right back to some significant problems if they undercool the new chip even though it is running cooler than the previous design.  I certainly hope MS has learned their lesson and doesn't want another debacle but only time will tell.  Nevertheless... I will wait as long as it takes to get Jasper.  Real life has plenty of stuff for me to do anyhow so the games can wait a while longer... I don't have that much time for them anyhow even when I have a functional 360!  Big Smile [:D]

You forgot the Zephyr (v2 Goes between Xenon and Falcon).  Anyway I wouldn't wait for Jasper if you need a new one right now.  Pick up a RROD on the cheap from someone who says the towel isn't doing it for them anymore and clamp it.  If you can get a decent narrative on the failure scenario you'll almost never get caught with a fried, non-serviceable board.

heres some good news for all who have been waiting for the Jasper. Everyone by now knows that there is a price drop coming on sept 7., with price drop there will be small batches of Jasper chip 360s mixed with falcon ones. The only way they can be spotted is the creation date should be somewhere in late july/early august (this is just speculation based on the most recent 360's creation date which are all set in june). The thing that will suck is if stores hold out on the consumer and try to get rid of the falcons first.

Yeah you can get on live; all you're doing is fixing the cooling scenario and pin connections.  That's why it's important for xclamp beginners to get towel responsive or intermittent RROD boxes.  Sizzle-pop, no 3D, colorful bar, and many other varieties of dead boxes are much harder to zombify back to life.

Thats exactly what confused me. So whats happens "In Case" my Jasper gets the RROD. Will M$ replacement my console with an Opus Console. I mean it wouldn't make much sense since it doesn't have the HDMI port on the box. "What about all the people with HDTV's"...???

You'll obviously get a replacement Jasper. They replace Falcon boards with Falcon boards and will probably later replace Falcon consoles with Jasper motherboards. Opus are replacements for Zephyr and Xenon. Not for Falcon or Jasper.

Also, you don't need HDMI to send an HD signal, it's just the best and easiest way. There's still component input.

Well if you have to get your gaming on, then go for it but I strongly suggest waiting just a little bit longer. You know to get a Jasper console. Besides during your waiting time you can save up some more money and perhaps purchase some newly released games. Good Example would be like Gears of war 2, Fable 2, Fallout 3, CoD:WaW etc....plenty of good games coming out just in time for the New improved consoles and Holiday season..

Yeah,

I already pre-ordered some.

Here's my short & quick story:

Yesterday, I got the single RRoD. I called Xbox support, blah, blah, blah I gotta send it in.
So, an idea came to me; why not go out & buy an Elite. (my current console was a 20 GB, so I would be upgrading alot!!) So, if I did buy an Elite, I would have a back-up console. 2 Xbox 360s = 1 I would use to play and if it died, I had a back-up.

So, do you still recommend waiting or just go out and buy an Elite?

Yeah,

I got my Elite. :D It seems to run just about the same temp then my former Pro that just died.
But, I have noticed something different about the Power Brick. It has two extra vents on each side.
My Pro had just the two main ones on each side. My Elite has the extra ones on top of it.

Re: Jasper Sightings
Considering how the retail chain works... there will most likely be no Jasper boards hitting the street until the Falcon supply has been exhausted.  Retail supply chains work in a First-In First-Out manner.  If they received a lot of Falcon boards back in June at the distribution center for Sprawlmart then those will be the first to get to the retail locations for Sprawlmart.  When the Falcons run out the Jaspers will start hitting the shelves... simple as that.  The timing will vary with region as each regional distribution center feeds a number of stores and some distribution centers will exhaust their Falcon supply faster than others.

Yes... there is a transition period where you will see mixing but that takes place at the end of the Falcon supply.

Here's my dilemma: I'm looking to buy my first 360, as I recently purchased an HDTV and surround sound system. I've been waiting for ever it seems like to play Halo 3, which I just ordered in the mail and which arrived yesterday.

Now, I'd love to get a Jasper, as would everyone else. But realistically, it sounds like it could be another 2+ months before I could reliably get one at a local retailer.

So as much as I want the Jasper, I think I'm just gonna take my chances and purchase a 60GB unit this weekend once the price drops hit.

I figure, if I get a Falcon and it ends up RRODing, I'll have the 1-3 year warranty, and most likely, the Jaspers will end up working their way into the refurbed machines. Plus, in an all out worst case scenario, if it dies after the warranty expires, that should be after the Valhalla chipset lands, which I'm assuming would be preceded by even more pricedrops. So if that happens, I'm sure I could pick up a new arcade for probably about $150, slap on my harddrive, and finally have a reliable system.

I wish I had the patience to wait, but this itch has gotten to a point where it just has to get scratched.

Ok so I was in that situation a few weeks ago and was lookin for a way to get my 360 and not get screwed with RROD. so I wen to bestbuy exactly 3 weeks and bought the 60gb and a Bestbuy warranty. On sunday I will go to bestbuy get my 50bucks back and when Jasper rolls out Ill get an easy exchange. Since Vahalla chip is comin nxt year, Ill be able to exchange again and get that, so you cant go wrong.

I'm in process of getting rid of my Console, but i don't mind the two month wait. I still have a perfectly running PS2 and a PSP to keep me busy till then.

Irregardless I'm spending the extra $29 bucks for the 3 year replacement plan... Anything besides the three red rings isn't covered under Microsoft's extended 3 years on all 360's, which is complete BULL$hit. Well, I just purchased a 60GB Pro at Best Buy this morning. Lot# 0826, Manufacture date of July 4, 2008, so I'm almost positive it's a Falcon, but I haven't cracked it open to find out (and I don't plan on doing so).

This is my first 360, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but overall, it seems to run at a reasonable temperature. Exhaust temperature seems to be just a few degrees higher than my 80GB PS3, but I'm only basing that on how my hand feels when I put it near the vent.

The DVD drive is noticeably louder than the PS3's though. I had already planned on watching all my DVDs on the PS3, but the noise of the drive just reinforces my plans.

Hopefully, it won't RROD on me, but I'll post if it does.

Make sure you give your 360 plenty of room to breathe. She doesn't take to well to breathing in her own exhaust, so place her in an area where she'll receive plenty of ventalation.

Also, if you're using an entertainment center with shelves, place it on the shelf directly ABOVE the PS3, just for good measure Wink [;)]
