Hey, man - if you're connected to the internet/Xbox Live, then it should download the necessary update to your hard drive as soon as you put the original Xbox game in. If you AREN'T connected to the internet, I believe if I'm not mistaken, there is a way to DOWNLOAD the emulator for the game from the Xbox.com B/C information page (and I believe then burn it to a CD), or possibly to order a CD from MS.

If that is true about games not being added to the list, then that is very unfortunate. But, if games are still being added to the list, can SSX Tricky possibly be in discussion? Has Xbox released any date on the next update for Backwards Compatibility? Thanks.

A belated thank you Lucky 13 X. I actually downloaded the game 1 more time (3rd) after you're reply and Black has been running fine. I havn't played for some time now  but have almost finished the game on difficult setting.
I've also been playing Red Dead Revolver on disc and it runs great on the 360.

memmnon1337,

You mean work with old Xbox games? If so, if you have downloaded the latest NXE software, you already have the software needed to play original Xbox games on the Xbox 360 console. You can also download the specific backwards compatibility software at the below site.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/backwardscompatibility.htm

Edit: Nevermind, just noticed you were already answered.

And to the person above this post, there will be no more additions to the list, so No unfortunately.

i have to say i am quite annoyed with microsoft they said they were going to update the BC so i have been waiting literally years to play a selected amount of games. i do not have the room for an original xbox so i have basically wasted money and time.

i only wanted to play the warriors and 50 cent bulletproof these are the only two i can think of off the top of my head however i cannot now. bad times microsoft :(

what i don't get, is that Lord of the Rings, Return of the King is BC, but Two Towers, Fellowship of the Ring, and the Hobbit games are not. seems like an overlooked thing. was really looking forward to having my daughter play them, as they are right up her alley.

I downloaded fable and i actually got it to 100% and finished, well anyway, i go to start the game and it says can not read disc, download the game again, go to support web site. Well i did and i tried all the suggestions i could find from xbox forum, xbox360 forum, fable forums. Ive tried redownloading it (currently on the 5th time [ dont think that will work anyway]), tried clearing the cache, tried erasing the signatures, tried seeing if the game was corrupted on my HD, tried installing the BC update on a CD-R and updating it on my xbox, none of that works, i also tried not signing in my gamertag, lets see, even gave it a little "love tap" :). BTW i could only find a November 2007 update, it said that was the most current update. Any suggestions?? there were no definate solutions on any forum and 18004myxbox gives me the run around (its probably my HD they say, when everything else works on my HD, also that i have to call back tomorrow because some "special" team has already left for the day [i mean special cuz i didnt understand the word before team :D).  So thanks for the help if any, will update for you poison
if i get an answer tomorrow

No one at Microsoft tech-support will tell you whats wrong... if they even know.  But I will.  If you bought your harddrive from ebay or bought it used from someone who may have bought it from there... then it's most likely a counterfeit drive.  Happened to me.  It'll still work for everything except backwards compatibility.  Even if you didn't get it from ebay or used though, if you're getting the "cannot read disc, download again" error, then you've got the same problem as the counterfeit drives, which is a missing or corrupt "partition 2".  Even buying the actual disc of "Fable" won't fix this, so don't waste your money on the disc version like I did, haha (mine was "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas").

There are two possible fixes for the problem, neither of which are quick or easy.  You can either buy another drive, or if you're computer savvy then you can hack the drive (need a SATA cable and a PC) and manually install a correct version of "partition 2".  Scroll back through this thread (or my other thread on this issue, can't remember... pm me if you can't find it) and you'll find a link i posted to an article explaining exactly how to hack the drive and fix the problem.

But with so many stories on B/C games being so full of bugs, we have to admit and concede that the emulation experiment is a failure.  It is now time to make all (if not most) of the Original Xbox games downloadable.  You would be doing us a much better service in light of not making the hardware compatible with the original Xbox.  The PS3 abandoned the PS2 B/C and they are paying for it.

Please make the original games downloadable now (if not soon).

I agree, like Ps3 doesn't need an update FOR THEIR OWN GAMES just to play them..I think that Microsoft should stop *** up already -.-

Try burning it again to another disk and making sure it is the only file currently on the disk.

Why did they stop making the original Xbox games BC with 360? There are a lot of crappy titles on the BC list and not a lot of the good titles on there. Who really wants to play Buffy or ride along with Barbi? I worked in the gaming sales industry and these titles, and more, did not sell. There really is not a lot more titles out there to make backwards compatitable. I say microsoft should create a voters webpage listing all the rest of the games out for the original Xbox and take the top 100 or 150 or 50% of whats left, if not all if possible, and make them BC. It could help employ some people to focus on updating and it would give back to gamers some of the lost nostalgia they once had. I was not diappointed when I bought the games but it hurts that I can not rekindle that enjoyment again.

NFL Street 1 & 2 FTW plz, none of this tour crap. those two games were probably the best 2 games that i have played. Even an Arcade version would do some good. Why cant microsoft see that all of there Next gen tatics fail completely, reading some of these boards it seems like most people are up in arms against most orf the decisions that they make. =We pay to be bs'd out of nickel and dime and now cant play the games that we originally played to get interested in xbox. i know bashing microsoft with post after post doesnt really help, but custiomer feedback should be monitored so they can relize what they are doning. i just dont get it.

According to this Mondays SentUaMessage there will be no more updates to the backwards compatibility listings, they claim that the number of patch downloads has decreased (because everyone already has them) and it costs them too much to make each one compatible. I see that Sony put the effort in though.

every single oddworld fan wants strangers wrath and its an amazing game that should be shared with the world since so many people missed it. I don't know about most fans but to me this love extends to the point that I would buy a new xbox 360 if it had full backwards compatibility built in. if they have the time to release the elite then they should be capable of releasing a system with build in working full backwards compatibility and maybe just maybe doesn't red ring as well. ether update the playlist of bc games or give us a system that works for them from the start rather than a pants on head retarded system thats so horrible that even if a game is playable it is plagued with crashes and bugs.

this sucks ive been waiting patiently for microsft to release their next bc update. now i find out there wont be one. now i just have a stack of useless xbox games sitting in my room that i cant play and arent worth selling cause stores know theyre worthless. i figured xbox 360 would be like the ps2 when it came out and how all the ps1 games were abled to be played. what also sucks is microsoft making the og xbox games downloadable so now i have to rebuy the games i have. the microsoft team needs to find a solution to this problem cause it could hurt them in the future when they release whatever platform theyre working on cause i might just go with sony regardless of the price.

Re: FAQ Xbox Originals and Backwards Compatible, Updated 1/30/2009
this is just plain dumb, i bought a 360 so i could play both the new 360 games and my older xbox games.  after my purchase i discovered that the last BC list was dated like 2007 and here it is 2009.  not only that but the american chopper games, monster garage, mechassault 1, outlaw (golf, volleyball, etc) arent on the list or have issues not to mention quite a few other titles that i have lying around.  if the aformentioned facts werent bad enough my marvel vs capcom game doesnt work on the 360 and it IS on the list, when i called to speak to technical support there comment was to use the marketplace and buy it again via download :P come on had i known then what i know now i would have just replaced my original xbox (which failed on me with a rrod) and only paid 50.00 to do that, while at the same time either just staying with my pc, or getting a ps3.  i am not a ps3 fanboy in no way i am just dissappointed that the 360 will not play all of my xbox titles and the list was last updated in 2007. after reading a couple of above comments on bc it looks like i am goig to return this 360 and go buy a used original xbox and a ps3 (all of the titles i played on ps1 and ps2 are playable on ps3 at least)

Hmm that sounds crap i also have some games of my old xbox laying around some of wich i would love to play still.
downloading them from marketplace would be an option IF they would give me a code for a free download in if I mail them my old game (the shipping fee of about 2$ I would have no problem to pay) but to rebuy a whole game for 1200-1600 MP is theft if you ask me.
