you should remove that link to allakhazam, i wouldn't recommend anyone going there and i'll keep the reason to myself.
I feel you, but despite the site's affiliation with RMT, it's still a pretty good database of information. Last year when I couldn't find an item on FFXIclopedia, I could always find it on AK.
Not just that but they also compromised a lot of peoples WoW accounts by not checking thier adds, and some of them containted keyloggers. I didn't have to worry about adds with them since i had an account, but yanked it soon after finding out about thier carelessness, or was it?
I know this is a necro-post, but Allakhazam was a great site before it's RMT affiliation, and it still is afterward. Nobody ever said it was a safe site. The keylogger you mention was also part of a widespread virus, and Allakhazam was not the only site hit by it. It's also not the first malware written to steal WoW accounts. I think this mass-mailer worm was:
http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2007-030416-3427-99
The only logical gripe I've ever agreed with about Allakhazam, is that the informational threads are plagued with elitism, and the forum posters there are unable to view things from anything but endgame level perspectives. To cite an example, take a quick look at this FAQ on PLD/RDM:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=5;mid=1154729258105247641;num=58;page=1
Now my point is that you could make a Bard solo with the caliber gear the FAQ poster suggests. The writer almost expects that every PLD has sea access to get Keonig gear. He also expects the user to have a Joyeuse, or a Krakken club (K-clubs are super rare on every server). What he really should say is, "If you can not solo in this junk, get a new job." None of the information in this poor excuse for a FAQ is good, but just common sense. The point in a FAQ is helping a player acheive goals, not stating the obvious. The hefty prerequisites to this guide are things like organizing a Charby Fight, and getting sea access doesn't help a guy who has a 75 PLD for say, and would like to do things many PLDs can not do without help. PLD/WAR is horrible solo, and even has trouble with soloing EP mobs with their usual turtle-esque gear (PLD AF/Adaman gear). I commend a guy who may want to do jobs like RDM/NIN or PLD/RDM because they'd like to rely on others less in game, but if someone wants to write a FAQ, it's to help those guys out. Give them a reasonable way to use the setup. Don't tell them they have to endure the trials of Job to do it.
