geez, I'm sorry for you. That's a pretty bad experience. Some have claimed that removing and re-downloading the game helps, but I honestly don't know; never done it.

I have had some problems, but not that severe. I lose about 20% of the MP games at the start. SP works fine. My NAT is open- I play CH, COD3, and other games just fine.(meaning they work as well for me as most others)

It would be nice if they simply made an announcement acknowledging the problem.
And progress on a patch.

Yes! Keeping track of 15 constantly moving, shooting players in real time takes a lot more complex netcode than "Player 1 rolled a 7"... with four people... Network issues should NOT be a problem with a fairly simple card game. Uno manages fine, why can't Catan?

This game is awesome, but holy  h e l l  do they need to patch it.  Connection problems galore!

I have made it through one ranked game, which, of course, I lost.  I have been dropped from about 5 others.  Sometimes early, sometimes after 10 minutes or so.  Of course, I would have won all of them, so my record is really 5 - 1!!!

I'm assuming that bandwidth dramatically lowers with headsets and mics moreso than the actual gameplay.  At leas that has been my experience.

Not true. We are getting dropped. I was playing with people I know and then next it is all computer players. I sent them a private chat and they said the same thing. It dropped to people and let the other two stay and play. There is something a foot here.

I love this game, but man I hope they issue a patch soon. I've never been able to complete a game I join, I always get dropped. The only way I've found to complete an entire game is to host the room myself, and that only works about 70% of the time. If any other game was like this most of us might not notice the horrible online, but Catan is sooooo good. I can't stop playing even with the crappy online implementation. Few games are released that get me instantly addicted like this has. Also, **** Alexander.

Basically all the same stuff happening to me, very frustrating....they better put out a patch soon

i've only gotten dropped at the v. start of a game. never noticed it with other players in the middle of games either, everyone seems to stay till i beat them :-)

Of the two ranked games I was able to get into, I finished one, but one player dropped.  The second, I was hosting and suddenly all players dropped -- after we were getting close to finishing the game.

Interesting, though, it was shorty after I heard mic activity from one of the other players for the first time.  Whether this is a coincidence or not, I do not know.

I know you aren't the one that said this may work, as you haven't tried it, but I am here to say that it DOES NOT work.  Just thought I'd save people the trouble of doing this for nothing.

would be nice if we could jump back into playing a match too like UNO
would cut the frustration/fury factor down a bit for me.

The night of release, I had few to no problems once the game was actually started and going... since then I've been disconnected 50-75% into the games, almost every time! I don't want to finish playing against the computers, I'd like reasonable network stability, and I paid for it.  I'm starting to get seriously pissed.

Well...I've noticed another negative spillover effect from the crappy connectability of Catan. 

People who think you are INTENTIONALLY DISCONNECTING are giving you a NEGATIVE FEEDBACK SCORE!   I had a PERFECT Xbox Live rating til Catan... and now 28 percent of players who've commented on my gaming habits have chalked me up as a QUITTER or someone who doesn't finish the game! 

What I DON'T have yet is a comment regarding my conduct or LANGUAGE while playing....but if these connection problems continue, THAT'S going to change pretty frickin' soon too!  FAAAAAAK!!!!

No need to worry about your rep. If they gave you bad feedback for a disconnect they were probably jerks anyway and them giving bad feedback means that you are less likely to play with them.  no biggie, in fact it's a good thing.  I don't know about any one else but i've never booted or otherwise not played with some one because of bad rep.

Last night I got an invite to play from some friends so I accept the invite and it loads Catan up then proceeds to try and connect to the game. It does so for a moment as I heard everyone chatting then it would bring up a message saying that the game is full and to try another game. The game wasn't full at all. After about 20 attempts to connect, it finally let me into the game. Another player also got the room is full thing despite there being 2 seats free. Weird, I hope they fix this soon.

this happened to me as well as a lot of othe folks.  If your friends who were saving the place for you look in their recently players list they will more than likely find recent players from Catan that they have never played.  it seems that even if you set the slot to "private" others can take the slot while remaining "invisable" to every one else in the lobby.  I don't know if these ghost players actually get to play if you start the game with them in the lobby, but it does seem that they can block invited friends.

I have had the same problem with my gamer rep.  I also had a perfect rating until this game.  I have never left a game early and now I have 57% quitiing early.  I think it is unfair of people to rate you when it is a well known fact that there are connection issues with Catan. I have even sent out a mass letter to everyone I played with to explain the situation. 

And I have to say, I absolutely love this game but will not be playing it online until it is fixed. I get disconnected and go to those familiar AI players about 95% of the time. It is so frustrating to set up my little villages and then have that damn hour glass freeze and then everyone is gone but me.  I hope it is fixed soon.  Everyday I start it up to see if there are any updates, hopefully one day soon there will be.

 

I have yet to finish an online game. I experience the same problems you guys have. But yesterday was crazy, when i started up Catan i inmediatly got disconneted from Live. I'll try to delete it and re-download. It took so long before we could download this game and (online) it's messed up :(

I've had about 25% of the ranked games I play fail due to disconnects. This doesn't count the disconnects by other players where they become replaced by the AI player. These are disconnects that kicks me out of the game. For me the disconnect almost always happen either during the map layout stage, or when the game ends. I think only once has a game kicked me out in the middle. As far as I can tell, my wins and losses are recorded correctly. I now have a 100% Early Quitter score and I attribute this solely to Catan.

I'll just add that if I'm not the host .... I never make it to the end of ranked or player match game.

Never.

If I'm the host, I'm pretty golden .... except for the others that lost their connection over the course of the game.

I envy those of you who aren't having this problem.

I've played enough games to get my 1,000 point acheievement and have only been dropped a couple times, but I've been in a lot of games where OTHERS have been dropped....I know they weren't quitting because we were chatting and they dropped midsentence, or they were way ahead or whatever. Interesting that some can't connect at all while others don't seem to have problems.

I have this problem too.  I have no probs with 'real' multiplayer games (R6, GoW), just with Catan.  My rep has been killed from it too.  I wouldn't worry about your internet connection.  I think it's just crap programming by BHG.

I did have some problems with MP; then I just stoped playing MP.
I love the game, and this version, but the MP needs some serious fixin. I lose about 20% of the MP games. And yeh, I play COD3, Chromehounds, ect just fine....

I CAN'T EVEN LOAD THE FREAKING GAME WITHOUT BEING DISCONNECTED FROM XBOX LIVE.  DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM?  I CAN LOAD UP EVERY OTHER GAME...JUST NOT CATAN.

Man, I really enjoy this game but I also cannot get a rank because of all the disconnects.... and I feel horrible that people may think I quit early for no reason. Tried 3 or 4 ranked games and about 4 player games with a friend, every single time I've been disconnected right as it's getting good, maybe about 4 rounds or more in. Guess I'll try to re-download and see if it helps, anyone had any luck fixing this?

My experiance if 2 computer players come into a ranked match, a win dosn't count towards anything but a loss will count against your ranked stats.
