I think you meant "they are noobs" not "the are noobs."

Can't bust on anybody with bad grammar and all caps and expect people to listen, lol.

It's ok, we're all here to proof read your work.

It is unfortunate that many people have become "mainstream gamers" where they only buy the, what they think are, the best games, and know very little about them. They then inevitably miss out on the other great games, that are often overlooked by people. (i.e Pure, Mass Effect etc)
However there is nothing wrong with mainstrean gaming, and the mainstream games are very often the best.

I know how you feel being a nintendo editor and all. I see people whine about the wii when all they own is wii sports irks the hell out of me. I own 35 games for my Wii and I buy small independent underrated titles like De blob and deadly creatures. I mean i love the Italian brothers but you have to broaden your views of gaming.
My Elite just red ringed and I had to send it to Microsoft!! I picked up Deadly Creatures for something new to play while I wait. What a neat game! The level design is awesome and the way the plot is played out is really innovative. I also loved House of the Dead and Mad World! I think the Wii has some good material and it doesn't get enough credit. I totally miss my 360 though : (

Dude, i totally get wht u r saying. I can name so many people who think theyre FPS "veterans" because they own Halo 3 (none more from the series) and Call of Duty Modern Warfare. It pisses me off too.

i don't agree with that at all.  Achievements has nothing to do with being a serious gamer.  some people with lower gamer scores have them because they are serious gamers on other platforms.  Yeah a gamer might have a low gamer score but he might be off playing crazy games on the PS3 or the PC.  Or he might even be whipping out that dusty N64 for some Mario Kart.

Wow........looks like I started a flame war.........

I think most of you are missing the point here. My original argument was about how some people are ignorant of excellent games outside of the univereses of COD and sports games, halo...etc.

Someone who denies excellent works of gaming therefore cannot be considered 'serious gamers', despite the fact that they might call themself one.

To whomever brought up gamerscore: that is a stupid point. Gamerscore equates more to how many games you have rather than how skilled you are. Achivements are easy to come by, that cannot be refuted. However, it does have relevance in the sense that if you have a large gamerscore, meaning you have a large variety of games, you probably aren't an ignorant gamer.

Re: Serious 'Gamers'
I agree, look how pathetically low my gamerscore is. I favor first person shooter games above all (I'm not a Halo fan), but recently I bought a copy of Oblivion at a flea market, and I am really enjoying playing it. It's different not shooting a gun. I play games on my computer, PSP,(they suck), and Xbox360. No way do I consider myself a "serious" gamer in that sense, more of a casual gamer. I do play the games I purchase all the way through, but I don't get into marathon sessions. 1-2 hrs. a day at most. Hell, the only reason I joined Xbox live was to get the DLC's for Fallout 3. I bought that game back in January and made it last until two weeks ago after I knocked out the Point Lookout DLC. I know I got my money's worth out of that game. I have to kick myself in the quantum singularity though, when I found out Bethesda is releasing a collectors edition with all five DLC's this coming Dec. Oh well. I'm sitting on about four or five games that I've yet to play, but I'll get around to them.

EXACTLY.

My argument basically equates to: I hate mainstream gamers UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCE that they are overly mainstream and therefore very ignorant. < Not all 'mainstream gamers' fit this poorly described bill

Re: Serious 'Gamers'
Um, some can look at your low gamerscore and conclude that you're not a serious gamer. I am a part time player and I am at over 20k, you haven't even hit 10k.

Don't worry so much about others and don't let it detract from your fun. Not everyone is supercool like we are, or as geeky as we are, however you wanna look at it.

Anyway, USA means freedom, which means you can be as wrong or as ignorant as you want. In 2008, 66,882,230 proved it.

I define being a hardcore gamer as the following: (Feel free to add or comment on this list.) 1. Know some differences between the consoles, and who created them. That is a pretty good indication that someone might know what they're talking about. 2. Know that there's more to the respective consoles than just "Halo" or "Mario" or "that game with the chainsaw (Gears)" 3. Actually put some effort into LEARNING about the game, including knowing who developed and published a title. 4. Actually put some effort into PLAYING the game, including single player and multiplayer, where applicable. 5. Not getting nervous or making mocking comments when another gamer wants to talk about a game... You can have a decent conversation about gaming: it is possible, as I do it frequently. 6. Playing a title on a higher difficulty setting, therefore creating a strenuous but rewarding experience. Call of Duty on Veteran, anyone? 7. Something more for forum junkies: know some common acronyms for gaming and posting in the forums. ROFL and COD, for example. 8. Actually make an effort to get family members to at least UNDERSTAND the gaming universe in some way. Sharing is caring, people. 9. Make an honest effort to beat a game on a high difficulty setting. You know, something that could take WHOLE DAYS to beat. Some of you know what I'm talking about. 10. Not being on Netflix on XBL all day! (Ha!) Whaddayouguysthink?

I aggree with most except item item 4. For me multiplayer just does not interest me. But really good single player does.

Let me see if I can bring Steam to a rolling boil. :) 1. No. I disagree. Unless you can tell me about Intellivision and the Game Shark law suit. 2. Agree. 3. No I disagree. I don’t care which company created. I used to be Star Trek Fan and D&D player but still could not name all the actors or writers. 4. Disagree. I have gotten on to some multiplayer games and hated the players. So why should I care about part of game I didn’t enjoy. 5. Depends. Bring up the topic at work during business meeting NO. In line to the movies, does the movie have a game tie in?, at mall food court, dude I just want you to serve me my pizza slice, just because I wearing gaming t-shirt does not mean I care if you play and you holding up the line. 6. No. I may want to work thru my whole collection of gamers before I play thru them again. 7. No. some us hate Leet speech, or are new to forum. So could the first person using the acronym spell it out for us new people. 8. This varies with each family, I wouldn’t bring up Xbox at the family reunion and you don’t mention the embarrassing spoiled milk story. 9. you covered this in 7. So this is rewording not new item. 10.What is Netflix and why should I care if someone else is watching it.
don't rush me I'm thinking.

Games cost $60. Most people don't wanna fork out $60 for every new "great" game that comes out. You're looking at hundred upon hundreds of dollars.

Some people only like certain games. I for instance like games that have great single player stories. I enjoy the Halo series, KOTOR I/II, Morrowind, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid, and the NCAA Football games (Im a huge college football fan, this doesn't have much story, only what stories you make with it). I don't buy them because they get good reviews, or because they had the best graphics or the most in depth gameplay. I bought them for REplayability. I only own about 15 games that i consider the best next gens ever. But does that not make me a hardcore gamer? What about buying every single "great" game makes someone hardcore? I'd consider myself a hardcore gamer because i set such high standards for the games i DO buy, not the ones i don't.

Moral of the post: Don't get your panies in a bunch because someone disagrees with you. If you do you're going to have a wedgy throughout your whole life.

Doesn't bother me in the least, I've been enjoying this hobby for 24 years, and making it into a career has given a whole nother insight on the industry. I'm use to people coming up to me for questions on their favorite games, and whenever I do hear somebody talking about something that they really have no idea about I just laugh, that's all that I can really do.

Your gamerscore should not define your gaming ability, he could have been playing on PS3 or even the Wii this whole time and he just decided to get smart.

Some people like to talk, others just want to fit in.  Like most of the replies I read, I feel a good person would just correct them.  If said person doesn't allow it, then just laugh at them while you have the chance because it might turn into someone elses' 30 seconds of fun.

Re: Serious 'Gamrs'
I don't know if I'd call myself a serious gamer. I love video games and play often. I've been known to stay up playing video games for 48 hours straight without sleep, only taking breaks to use the can or grab another Mountain Dew out of the fridge. I don't own a whole lot of games. My parents didn't encourage gaming growing up. The only system they ever bought was an Atari 1600. I got pretty damn good at Centipede but barely got to play much newer stuff except sporadically while visiting friends who had games.
In early 20's I decided to buy myself a Nintendo 64 and had about 15-20 games for it total, but mostly played Zelda and Goldeneye. Around that time I hooked up with a chick who was a heavy Playstation fan and I couldn't take Sony seriously as a video game company. Nintendo had largely dominated the market since the 80's with the NES and SNES. It crumpled the competition. But Sony surprised me by being a contender and Playstation Girl got me hooked on Final Fantasy VIII. I ended up playing her Playstation more than my N64. Playstation Girl and I weren't meant to be. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised that a girl who likes her Game Shark turned out to be a cheater. But she successfully converted me to a Playstation gamer.
Later I was forced to sell my N64 due to financial issues and didn't buy another game system until Playstation came out with the thin PS2. I badly wanted to buy a PS2, but couldn't afford to fork over $250 for the system when it first came out. So I patiently waited until it dropped down to $130. I still have my PS2 and most of my games are Rockstar Games. I'm a huge fan of GTA, with every game in the series from GTA III and up. I also have Manhunt 1 and 2, both Max Payne games, and about 30 games total for the system.
When Microsoft came out with the Xbox I was just as reluctant to get into it as I was originally with Sony's Playstation and I thought Bill Gates just wanted to cash in on another major industry to line his already overflowing pockets. A company that can't make a decent OS or Web browser couldn't be serious about making a quality video game system. So that's why I decided to get a Playstation 2 instead of an Xbox even tho several gamer friends raved about it.
When the Xbox 360 came out I wasn't really impressed. It apparently also served as an HD DVD player as well as a game system, but I assumed the market would favor Blu-Ray and I was right... too bad I didn't buy any stock. I had my sights set on a PS3 when the price went down to something more manageable to my budget. I had absolutely no intention of buying an XBOX 360... that is until Microsoft bought out exclusive rights to 2 downloadable episodes for Grand Theft Auto IV. While that wasn't the only deciding factor that lead me to getting a 360, it weighed heavily on my decision. I also considered price and the availability of games. XBOX 360 had been out longer and had more games available. I also heard that it had better servers.
I just bought my 360 a bit over a month ago and I have fewer than 10 games for it. I intend to get more but I'm a 34 year old single dad with full custody of my 13 month old son. Gaming takes a back seat to my son's needs. Diapers, baby toys, clothes, and food naturally take priority over video games.
My take? Who cares if someone considers themselves hardcore or not? We are all a part of an industry we love whether we own 10 games or 100 or we play for 10 minutes a day or 10 hours.
Now I gotta get off my soapbox here cuz Niko has a date. Sadly he has a more demanding social life than I do, but then he's not a single dad.
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Teach a man religion and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish.

I have also noticed this 'trend' quite alot too. These 'gamers' are also the people bringing down gaming. For some like myself i take gaming seriously but then you  get fools that do things like team kill or just dont play by any rules in general. These are the people that not to long ago were talking about 'gaming is for geeks' and now only do they realise the potential of games. Also alot of them think that they are awesome at playing games yet little do they know its thier connections that they ride on that gives them the edge. Im sorry but i fail to see how people that have been playing games for about 3-4 years can think that they are better than people who have been doing it most of their life.

Yeah, I agree about all the sports games and things, but I only have a few games because I don't have the money to buy every game I seem even vaguely interested about. However, I do keep up with the industry on a regualr basis and learn all I can about the things I'm interested in. I also play the crap out of the few games I do own :)
