Agreed. It's nice to wander from the beaten path once in a while and see how it's received. Resident Evil did it with 4 and it was one of the best in the series. I'm sure with Silent Hill, it's going to be great. I honestly can't wait to play through it and have to find strategies around enemies.

I can't say RE4 was the best... RE has quickly gone from horror survival to just horror action... And how can you say that the Japanese team ruined it as well as the American? The Japanese were the original Team. America took it and has given very little original ideas out there... and when they do make an original idea they turn my dearly loved bloody industrial otherworld into some crappy winter wonderland...

Please read my post again. I never said RE4 was the best, I said it was one of best. It's sold more copies than any other RE previous to it. As for the Japanese ruining the franchise...look at SH4. That one has to be the most God-awful SH to date. Everything about it was just bad really. I understand it wasn't a SH game at first, which is what it should have stayed as considering it felt forced, had horrid combat, the story tried wedging itself into the SH universe, and not really anything about it really screamed Silent Hill other than the worlds changing in the apartments. It was alright, but if they had gone their intended route I'm sure it would have seemed a lot better.

This is all opinion-based, so no answer anybody gives is the right one. I'm not saying nobody loved SH4. I just think the revision of the first game will be completely worthwhile. Especially since the first one is the only one in the series that needed some updating.

Everyone will have their opinion on how they think the series is and such.

Because the japanese tema couldnt innovate or keep the series from going stale

Combat is what made Homecoming such a drag. i mean, nurses will get your cornered and slice, and slice, and slice, and slice, and slice................................................................and slice, and slice. get the point?

I think Shattered memories should play alot like the original Clock Tower. You couldn't fight the scissor man, but you could use defense moves to evade him. it was nice.

the MAIN thing that TOTALLY turns me off is this: I read the other day that they are getting rid of the "rustic, bloody, steel, caged environments for a softer "snowy and icy" settings for when Silent Hill goes all "otherworld".

WHY OH WHY WOULD THE DO THAT!?!?!?

I think they want the feeling to be more isolated and alone and maybe just try something a little different. The whole, rusty gates and everything got a little dull to be honest. Hard to make out half the crap sometimes and where you can or can't go. We'll see how it turns out.

I personally loved when the game went into the otherworld and turned the rusty brown color, I can't imagine the otherworld being any other color or having any other type of look and feel. If I was going to recreate the game or movie and had to think of what the otherworld should look like, it would not look anything like snow or ice. The otherworld for me represents something more dark and depressing and snow for me just gives me a happy feeling.

If you get cornered by NURSES, then, well, you suck.

No generic monsters is fine, but no bosses/story enemies? I might be the only one, but I found the bosses in Sh3 to be a perfect fit, unlike 2 and 4.

Silent Hill 2 is my fave no moving on from the useless piece of info.

Silent Hill Homecoming is a good game with alot of bugs!
The half broken combat system made each fight woth being called SURVIVAL
With most other horror games I beat the game with plenty of supplies this one I did not.

this is one of the best horror expierences i've had since condemned 1.

Dead Space was good in the begining but when the game started repeating itself it turned into a monster hunting fest.

No offense but the hardest difficulty was still a breeze on this SH game. I miss the better days of when the Hard mode actually meant it would be hard. I miss challenges in games...

Thank you :)

Since I've beaten it on the hardest difficulty, I do believe I could tell them that. I'll say hi to your dead @$$ body as well. :)

Resident Evil 5 wanted you to feel a fear of intensity.

From the trailer I saw it will accomplish what RE5 did not in the horror area.

Re: Silent Hill : Shattered Memories
i think a silent hill game with no weapons or combat would fail but a silent hill game where you have to manipulate your surroundings to fight would be a pretty big win. think of it, instead of fighting a monster directly you had to run into a room and put a chair under the doorknob or push a grandfather clock infront of the door to close it off, or leave the door open and push the grandfather clock on the monster walking through the door. maybe you could find weapons that would only work a few times like grabbing a steak knife out of a kitchen that'll slowly bend itself out of shape as you use it, or a gasoline container and lighter that can be used to block off the path but if not used correctly you can trap and burn yourself to death as well as the monsters.

I agree as long as health isn't scarce or if there is health regeneration I would be okay with no combat system.

Re: Silent Hill : Shattered Memories
well they are "sorta" doing that since you can use fire to deter the enemies such as flares torches so i would imagine that there would be a big fire implementation to avoiding the creatures. the main problem i have with this game as i have said is the otherworld changing to winter. I understand trying to make it feel isolated i underastand that. And i also understand that alot of people may feel fear of this type of isolation. But i grew up in places where 6 feet of snow and not being able to get out of the house was just an irritation. It meant climbing out the window and shoveling your happy butt out. This does not bring me fear or feeling of isolation it just brings on memories of being irritated.

as for gameplay itself it seems rather smooth think of it. no combat, no pausing (everything and i mean EVERYTHING is real time) by taking out alot of features you can focus more on the smoothness and just remove the clunky movement. what the lack of combat makes me think tho is that the story "boss" is going to die or be trapped depending on what you do throughout the game. making the game all about choices. this is what the game seems to be is all about choices. where to go, what to say etc. and less about "die B****!!!"

The combat was simple, I enjoyed it. I'd like for them to have similar styles.

Lol, calm down there child. Don't rope me in with your odd logic of assumption. I think this new one is going to be great. The game play looks fun and incredible and is something different than the typical smash fest of the past SH titles. It's going to keep me on my toes considering it'll play with my head and I can't kill the monsters for once. I hated the fact that every boss in every SH was too easy even with the basic of weapons. Either save ammo and shoot until they die before they get too close or see their pattern and weakness and just hack them up whenever the opportunity arises. The combat was lame and took away from the, "Oh God, I'm gonna die!" factor. We don't know it's going to be bad. Just try it before complaining about it.

Getting rid of combat was a smart move. The series' gaping flaw was the horrible combat. The whole allure of it was the suspense, and being defenseless will boost that.

Agreed. The series really started hurting itself once 4 came out. The stupid melee meter was just horrid. 0rigins was good but gave way too many weapons and ammo. Homecoming...eh...they tried to rely on the combat waaay too much with the combo attacks and crap. Just not Silent Hill when you can use a plethora of weapons or combat styles to your advantage... Not really scary at all at that point. I think people are just wanting another horror genre to turn into an action genre like Resident Evil did. Starting to sound like too many people are scared from the previous ones and want more action replace that fear.

I think the game is gonna be better without the combat system. i think it makes the game more scarier knowing that you cant fight back and you can only run
