Like I wrote above, this is most likely just a teaser for the Big Sisters that were already leaked a bit early due to the Game Informer cover getting on Kotaku.

That is pretty much the center of this "mystery". I wouldn't speculate on who you play as or why you are playing as that character until we learn more.

I don't know who it is, but I think it's a reporter, someone who didn't believe in this until the second day. It may be someone who comes from Germany or England, where the first kidnappings occurred. Maybe it was someone else under the "would you kindly"  brainwashing who escaped before going to rapture (like the first story).

I get why girls are stolen for the Little Sisters, but that one picture kinda puts me off a little: so Big Daddies are out, but Big Mommas are in? Idk...

The site has some great info.  It actually has gotten me excited. 
I was a bit like Mitch.  I actually planned on skipping the game until I bought it on impulse.  I was so glad I did.  Just a brilliant game.

 

My concerns:  There was a definite psychological thing with a Big Daddy/Little Sister.  Is there any more protective person than a father of his daughter?  The Sister angle seems weird but...

 

Potential:  a friend of mine (cookingzombies) suggested that perhaps [spoiler] since Dr. Tenenbaum stayed in Rapture[/spoiler] perhaps said person is out to try and create an all female utopia.  After all, the 60's was the women's liberation era.  That could be cool.

I didn't notice it before (because my computer was on mute) but there's something being said on the chatter, too.

I hear "Yeah, I see something there, 10-4."
"*bong* Okay... (indistinct)"
"Roger, I see something by (Mitchelson, Wilmington, something-on)"
"*bong* Okay.... (indistinct)"-Same voice as other
Static, then moan/grunt and small whimper.

Also, there's the sound of a rolling sea underneath it all, leading me to think that maybe the person searching for clues is by the sea. And with it being English with an American dialect I hear, I'm assuming it to be in America, maybe on the East Coast where everything's happening.

It repeats this with the many overlapping static on there. Any sense from this?

I turned the volume up all the way. So right now as I'm listening to ti I can hear a few things.

The first is the sound of a motor. Possibly an Engine.
The second is the sound of splashing. Could be waves, but I'm thinking it's something more along the lines of the boat hitting the wakes in the water.
The third is the radio sounds. I've heard those sounds before on boat radio.
The constant tinking sound also sounds like the metal workings of a boat. Can't think of exactically what.

The sound in the background is possibly a boat on the water, reporting back what it's seeing.

PS: Did I hear one of the radios say: "Repeat again, you're breaking up."

New one is up so I will start writing now.

I can't believe I didn't catch this before. The guy who's researching all of this is Mark Meltzer. I don't know who it is (definitely fictional since he didn't come up on Google), but he's in Fairview Drive of New York City. My question then is why is he researching all of this? How did he come up with the European reports? Why does he care?

I looked up the address just to see if it comes up with anything, and it's actually an avenue right on the edge of New Jersey north of the Bronx. It's right near the sea, so maybe he's set up a HQ there. Doesn't necessarily explain him, but puts a place for him in my mind.

Also, the name Arthur Cannon doesn't ring any bells, but I did look up the Minority Leader of the House around the time: Gerald Ford... Could bring in some interesting twists here.

That pic sure is blurry, but thanks to that leak from IGN a few posts back, I know it has to be that. Also, that "person" ethan mentioned sure does fit into this scenario...

I heard of the Blue Book Project. It was in essence to debunk everything and make anyone who was even remotely related to anything UFO or UMO seem crazy and unfit for society.

It's not gonna be this Meltzer guy, but rather Inman. The name rings a bell, but I don't know why... Meltzer is gonna be an Atlas figure, I think.

Also, do you think the developers are gonna follow the anti-Rand sort of story this time around?

Okay so since the magazine has gotten out it has been revealed that you will be playing as the first Big Daddy. When I saw the headline I thought this meant I wouldnt be able to use plasmids but im pretty sure im wrong. So this also means that this is a prequel which is also super awseome and is what I wanted. I am a happy man.

I dont know its all really confusing to me. The dates say 1967 but game informer says your playing as the first Big Daddy. Im not sure, I will have to wait until there is clearer details.

In an effort to avoid any further ridicule from my fellow Gamerdads, I picked up the Original Bioshock and have started playing it for the first time, and I must say I am loving it!!  So as to avoid any spoilers, which, since its been out so long need not have any warnings and be commonly talked about, I am avoiding the Bioshock Forums and most discussions of Bio2.  But I am loving this game.....one thing I really dont like so much is the Havok engine, It got old in Oblivion very fast, seems a bit better in Bio then Oblivion though.

I sure wouldn', I just got back in to it as well. I will admit tho, it has been close to a year since I have played and It is really odd the way I get goosebumps exploring. this time I am using a guide to find all of the recordings. and will be finishing all of the research. That way I will only miss the last two achievements. With it being so long since I last played, It is almost new to me.

I was thinking about finding a guide so that I can find everything, but was thinking of ddoing that on a second runthrough, but now I worry that I wont have time for a second runthrough.  How long is this game anyway?  I know it varies, but about how long?

Took me about a week, two hours a day mon to fri six hours on saturday and sunday. I have the store bought guide that I hardly used and printed the various walkthroughs from Gamespot. Which I also hardly used. I am only using the recordings one to make sure I do not miss any.

I agree with a pervious statement that anyone who plays Bioshock should NOT be rediculed. Why, because It's one of the best PFPS (Persistent First Person Shooter) I have ever played. Seriously, it's up there with the Half-Life series in my book.

Just got the new Game Informer Issue.  Some highlights:

Rapture barely survived.  A surface-dweller came down almost 10 years ago and struck at the heart and mind of the once-beautiful underwater utopia, plunging it's inhabitants further into desperation

Whether you saved or harvested the Little sisters in the first game, some of them managed to escape with Tenenbaum.  The Big Sister is one of those girls who has returned to Rapture and transformed herself

The Little Sisters have been redesigned to look less monstrous.  Since you're seeing them though a Big Daddy's eyes, the are sympathetic characters.

Plasmids new and old will have tiers of functionality.  This incenerate upgrade turns your hand into a flame thrower.
