Playing like that would be too freaky for me.

I started playing the level with the manequins and Just turned it off.

 

This is game is more Realistic scary than say zombie or monster scary because there could be crazy people like this.

omg the department store was the absolute worst!!! i freaked out when u gotta jump down the hole and the manequines start moving closer and watching u, then when u jump down they are all staring down at you, and later in the level u pass the same spot and they are all in their original places...ugh. then just how the ppl look like dummies and just walk off the platforms and showcases and attack you. i always played the game at night and it prob took a few years off of my life heh

There are moments in this game that creep me out but thats why i'm finding it fun .

haha, my friend and I played this game over the course of 2 nights and recorded the entire thing on tape. chapter 5 was in that christmas department store right? we had all the lights out and had the surround sound cranked up.

I hated the part where you look at the mannequins in the display window, then all of a sudden they appear right next to you. there was this one part where I walked past a mannequin not thinking anything of it, then I heard something behind me, so I looked back and the mannequin was literally 3 inches from my face. we laughed so hard because we were truly scared sh*tless.

I was on edge until somewhere in chapter 2 (maybe?) when I had to find a fire axe to get to the next area.  I spent over half an hour looking for that thing.  After that, the game lost all its scariness for me.  I played on through chapter 3, where the only scares I got were when I was moving through and someone started shooting. 

"Holy s-, he's got a gun!"

That's it.

Although, from some of the stuff I've read here, maybe I should try to pick it up again.  Who knows?

Sometimes, when you do nothing, things have a way of fixing themselves.

I'm at work right now working the graveyard shift and just got done playing Chapter 5 in the department store.I used our conference room to play on our projector so was forced to turn the lights out so I can see  the game on the wall. I didn't think a game could scare me like this. I started getting really paranoid thinking I heard noises in the back offices and being here alone, in the dark, made things so much worse.Even the mall music that can be heard faintly when walking outside of the stores started giving me goosebumps. I had to go to the audio settings and lower the music volume to 0. Then I turned my Zune on and listened to a podcast hoping it would help me get through the remainder of the level. They did a great job on making that level creepy.

i only just got through the department store...i absolutely shat myself. im now officially scared of mannequinns. i watch ALOT of horror films and im never scared of anything but this game is the scariest thing ive ever experienced. cant believe i havnt played this game earlier.

was on edge the whole lvl...im actually a little tired after it i had to turn it off.i managed to get to that lvl in 1 sitting tho but department store was too much. the scares made me jump like sh*t!!!! and i was playing alone in my house and in the dark!! so awesome...i was laughing because of how f*cked up this game is haha

is condemned 2 just as good?

Yes, the department store was really scary. I played it the other night and mind you I have been sick the last few days, mainly stomach sickness. Well when I saw the maniquins surrounding me I yelped a little and squirted some diarrhea into my underwear. My heart was pounding and I was too scared to head to the bathroom to clean up. So i shut the xbox off and curled up on the couch and put my electric heater blanket over me and stayed there till I fell asleep. i woke up the next day with a bad rash.

Well, that was a little too much information for me, personally. But I do hope you feel better.

Just bought this game today.  Has to be the scariest thing I have ever experienced in a game or film.  Never knowing when you're about to be jumped by some crazed psycho.  And I'm only at the metro station!

The use of sound to create atmosphere in this game is absolutely amazing.

Think I might have to play some Viva Pinata to calm myself down before I head to bed!

i just got the game and am around chapter 3 but i dunno i thought it would be alot scarier. im still waitin to have to turn the lights on

OK, I just ordered this off of eBay and I'm hoping it's as good as the 2nd one.  I got the 2nd one before playing the 1st...  I have no idea why.

i highly sugest to the previous poster forget all about the 2nd game just think about condemned 1 as the second ruined alot of what made the first great.

it's quite freaky trust me. although you may not be intrested but you will feel very immersed by level 4 if you don;lt straight away i promise that.

A example of the non-boh!-horror is pretty long in the game and you enter a trashy old play ground in the middle of the night, the scary low music and then you start to hear childrens laughter. From nowhere. In another place, won't tell you where, all of the sudden you fall 2 or 3 floors down. Almost a sheppards pie in my pants. :p

The movie IT isn't scary at all in my oppinion. It's not even a movie, actually. It's a tv-mini serie and they are genrerally hard to make scary. This game is way more scary than IT (the movie/serie, at least). If you want a scary book, read Stephen Kings Pet sematary or Joe Hills Heart shaped box (just listened to that one in my ipod). Also check out the swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist. His first book Låt den rätte komma in is avaible in english (Let the right one in) and have become a great swedish movie and Matt Reeves are making an american version.

This game is by far, scarier atmospherically than the 2nd one.  It's quite spooky and scary in the dark rooms.

This game is really awesome I love it but it is scary. I am in chapter 4 and me and my sis were like forget this...so we turned on the brightness in the game settings. Lol
