Yes, yes it does, considering I don't want my laptop running for browsing, and having to keep my xbox on for chatting to friends. And you know, it would be nice if they took the natal project further, and you could show people the pages you're viewing you know?

Yes I know you can do that, I just highlighted the problem when you're trying to send a long message and having to reselect all yuor friends multiple times.

No, MLG is online gaming, I already have a GB account, what you're talking abuot is finding clan matches, I'm refering to showing you guys are a clan.
Thats it everyone slugs doesnt want to leave his laptop on for browsing which means the 360 ABSOLUTELY needs a browser lets start a petition for a browser on the 360 right away lmao seriously who do you think you are?You sound like a spoiled brat.

The real question who do you think you are? The sarcastic clown who instead of contributing to the thread and providing a reason as to why microsoft should or shouldn't implement these ideas, comes onto the thread and takes one of my reason as to why I'd like a the browser and turns it into my entire argument. Congratulations, you unlocked 10g for being a spastic ***. Next time, try and be a bit more creative and contributive instead of being a sarcastic waste of space :)

Seriously now: When I start up my computer, it's just to go on the internet.
Booting the computer takes a lot more energy than starting the 360 and heats a lot more (especially in summer)

With a 360-browser, I wouldn't have to boot my computer in the first place (saving time, energy and sweat)

Some people fear, the browser wouldn't have Flash. That's not true. The opera browser for Wii does have Flash. The only console browser without Flash (as far as I know) is the one for NDS (and DSi) because they don't have enough RAM to load Flash AND all of those videos requiring Flash.

If we had to reasonably compare the Pros and Cons concerning a browser for 360, the Pros would definitely win.

If one of the pros is that it should because you don't want to leave your pc on for browsing then it will never happen. Here's the main con, I bought a gaming console and any applications that aren't gaming relevant have no place there.I pay my money just like you all do and have no problem booting up my pc, there is no NEED for a browser on the 360, only a desire which will never be fulfilled.Browser supporters have been crying and whining for one for how long now?And most of the time the reasons for wanting one are redundant.Maybe if all the reasons weren't so blatantly selfish (ie:something that would benefit more people than yourself) this argument would go somewhere.

It really isn't a matter of laziness. It took me ten minutes to get my computer running to go on, because i had to turn it off last night so i could play my xbox and talk with my friends without lagging or breaking up. I wouldn't need to bother with turning off the computer, or the waiting for ten minutes so i acn use the computer for three minutes so i can get whatever i need, if Microsoft would put their browser on their system. And how is it lazy if we want it that way? Its not like we're dying without it, its merely conveniant. It would be laziness if our arguement were that we don't feel like going over to our computer. So when you say its laziness, i feel you should know, you sound like a retarded d-bag, and so you know, i don't care if you call me a d-bag back, because you're just another stupid person i will never have the pains of knowing.

Selfish? I wouldn't exactly call them selfish because they want convenience. Look no matter what way we look at this we're still going to hit the same god damn wall. Convenience. And no matter what side of the argument you're on, the fact of the matter is you bought your xbox 360 for the pure purpose of convenience, so that you could stay inside and game instead of going out, or watching tv, or looking for something to do. It gave you the convenience of having a back up, rather then looking for one. So for those saying our reasons are selfish, stop being a hypocrite. As well as that, your entire reason on not wanting a browser is the exact same as ours except the reverse, you just don't want one because you feel the xbox 360 was built as a gaming console only.  You feel we don't need one. Of course we don't, we've already crossed that bridge. Just as we don't need a video library, or an Inside Xbox, or the avatar features, or the messaging service, or the friends list. We just wanted all these things for convenience, so we could make friends, so we could watch videos, so we could contact friends. And as the Xbox community expands, so does it's capabilities and what it can achieve. Therefore, at this point, I feel it should have a browser, not because it doesn't need one, but for pure convenience just like everything else. And here's the reality, at the end of the day, you don't have to use the browser, if you're that much against it, in fact boycott it, lead a petition to stop them bringing it in. However the day your pc or laptop breaks down and all you want to do is just go on the internet to check your emails, wouldn't it be so much more CONVENIENT to be able to just turn on your xbox and just check them then get back into your gaming, rather then having to find another means to do it? As Old Stock rmm said, it's better to be looking at something then looking for something.

Through the giant wall 'o text I only read this. I do not want a Web Browser because it would not be "optional". If you get a Browser and I do not there is still a significant risk that my Xbox 360 would become infected simply by playing a Game with you.

With any Web Browser there will always be the risk of malicious attacks, such as a Virus, a Worm, a Specific Script applications. If there is a Method for exploiting, such as a Web Browser, there will be someone around to exploit it. The current set-up for Xbox LIVE is that it is a closed and Secure Network, this would change with a Web Browser.

Getting my Consoled "bricked" is not worth it so you can have a Browser. This Topic has been done to death. The only people that want a Web Browser on their Xbox 360 are ones who are trying to hide a URL Address from their parents PC.

On PCs they can because of downloads, ActiveX (copyright by Microsoft) or direct executions (made for user's convenience). lol thanks I'm glad an IT expert proved it is safe. That is Opinion, not fact. The Fact is any Specific Script can be written for any Hardware. There are many, many, many more "pros" who have advised against this. This last line is the best, read it carefully. It does not exist at this time because no one has written one, because there is no reason to write one. Now if someone had a reason, like a Web Browser on the Xbox 360, I'm 100% sure there would be someone to fill that gap.

If there is no worry for a malicious attack, why is there this?

I have a decent understanding of Application Security, thanks but no thanks. If there is even potential for my Console at risk because you want a Web Browser, the answer is and always will be No.

I've gotten tired of quoting every single phrase, so I hope you don't mind some colourful reading...

There's a simple solution to that, it's called restriction. There wasn't any on Windows 98, it was limited on XP and it is annoyingly present in Vista and less annoyingly in Windows 7.
Of course, there's always a way to bypass that kind of security, because "restriction" is unlikable. "Restriction" means "no auto updates" and things like that.
Microsoft doesn't need to give too much might to an "IE 360".
And if someone wrote some Javascript to freeze your "IE 360", simply press the guide button, restart IE and don't visit that site anymore.

It's the same reason, why we always get spam for enlargements and blue pills. Some people are desperate to make money through any means (I admit, I don't know whether the site is trustworthy or not, I don't own a PS)
There are lots of "protection" software, that don't really protect plus it is in the best interest of all protection software maker, that new malware keep popping up (if there weren't any new malwares, why bother purchasing a new license to use the newest anti-whatever?)

Choice, Pal. If we don't get the choice whether we can have a browser or not, how can you say "Yes" or "No"?
Seriously now: There is no "Risk Zero". Even life is risky! Besides, there wouldn't be any risks, if you didn't visit any fishy sites. Besides, browsing the internet through a PC is riskier than through a console
, because of what I wrote in blue.
All people saying "but there is a risk" are (if I may say so) stupid. There is always a risk.
When I buy a new game, there's always the risk, that it might be a worthless one.
When I stay at home, there's the risk someone might want to rob me and kill me for I'd be a witness.
When I leave home, there's the risk I might get caught in an accident where I could die as well.
Open your eyes, there is always a risk.
You only need luck and a proper behaviour.

Sorry but "restriction" is the way it is at current. For the most part this is simply incoherent ranting and does not address the Fact that any Software (or Script) can be written for any Hardware.

Really, I'm curious if you feel this same way about the Browser on your PC? Do you not use one on that? Prove me wrong and Turn Off your Firewall/ AV and go Online for a while, then come back and Reply.

Since you missed it the first time, I'll try it again. It is not "Choice" if I elect not to get the Browser but "little Timmy" does. I unknowingly play a Game with "little Timmy" (what the Xbox 360 was Designed for) and now my Console becomes infected as well. This does not sound like "Choice" to me. I said no, he said yes and I still get an "issue".

There is a big difference in what I "Choose" to do and engage in a "Risky" activity and someone else making that "Choice" for me. This is the bottom line, inherent problem or flaw with this "theory".

Here is the "scenario", "little Timmy" Downloads the Web Browser for the Xbox 360 (I do not) and he quickly goes on the Internet for "Free MS Points" because he does not have the money of his own. Now there is someone who thinks "I really hate MS and I'm smart enough to write and execute Script".

"Little Timmy" unknowingly takes this "Free MS Points" and a hidden Script that was written with one malicious intent, too destroy as many Xbox 360 as possible. "Little Timmy" now goes Online and Plays Xbox 360 Games with other Players and the infection spreads. A month into this everyone (including myself) has "our" Console simply continue to run a False Update over and over again. There is no known method to correct this other then sending it back to Support.

Now all of that was just speculation but it would be a very real and possible scenario if a Web Browser was to be added. I am very aware of Web Browser Behavior and not going to Unknown Sites or not Accepting Unknown Programs. If anything your Web Browser skills might be a little improved if this is any indicator;

Not trying to prove you wrong or anything, but why the hell would a Console send anything but plain information to any other Console?
I mean, when I play online, my 360 sends information like "my position in x/y/z", "what I look like", "voice/video/text chat", "what I'm doing", and other such things but not "updates" or "games" or things like that, no?
I know how viruses spread in theory, but I find it difficult to imagine it could spread from Console to Console...

But I do understand your point and if viruses can spread from Console to Console, I'd agree with you too.

My Console makes Contact with another Players Console all the time and not just to send "x/y/z". If anything History tries to teach "us", if there is a will there is a way and if there is a way there is a will. There has already been many people in the Xbox Community who have voiced their Opinions on that "they do not want a Web Browser".

1. its not needed but it would be nice
2. Refining the features could be nice

3.   MLG/Gamebattles is to Clans as Analog is to HDTV.   The features those two websites offer is nice but is so basic, limited, and prehistoric its not funny.

The bigger the online community gets, the more features that are added, the more competitive teams are going to play a role.   The best teams and the most popular teams will always be clans.  For all hardcore gamers this is a must and its becoming a bigger must each day for even casual gamers.   These communities help build friendships that go farther than the PC typically created.  These communities tend to drive online gaming farther than ever before. The more you provide for these communities in features you offer the more customer satisifaction and brand loyality you'll build.

Important features to add:
1. Clan ladder support (They can't fight this forever whoever catches on first will profit the most)
2. Group classifications in your friendlist
3. Streamed gameplay video
4. Gamer highlights or game statistics of the various games played

I have seen you make similiar claims in almost every thread I've seen. "I know exactly the only one reason why anyone would want this". You don't and you won't ever have any sort of evidence to prove yourself.

He knows, I know, and you ought to know that he is not talking about everyone in the world that has a 360. I know if I was still single and got bored of watching youtube and all that then yeah I would be subscribing to full of pron sites because I would get bored of all the stuff. There is so much you can do on the internet (for us older people) than ya'll can because most of us don't spend half our lives on myspace and whatever. Playing games is a different story. I'd choose playing games on XBL over surfing the internet anyday, for everyday of my life.

Btw, what I just typed up is my opinion and mine only so I'm not speaking for anyone else before you make the same claim against me as you did him.

Well that's you and your shady business. I only have a few sites in my web history that are questionable Stick out tongue [:P]

I still don't have link or quote book and I don't know how to quote it, but perhaps you remember:
"All the people who want to delete achievements only want to have 100% rating",
"Everything is just an excuse for people who don't want to pay for Gold"
This.
I don't remember more but then again there are only 3 or 5 active topics around here.

LostKauz, you can go on all day about "Little Timmy" and his little adventures on the internet, but at the end of the day, I've never seen your idea of Virus sharing happen anywhere in the console world. I know PS3's can get virus' yet the whole community doesn't have one. And believe me, given that you can play up to 60 people in some games on the ps3, don't you think that MAYBE if your idea of the "virus pandemic caused by little timmy" could actually occur, would it not have already occured on other consoles.  I mean even in one day if say one person logged on and played 3 seperate games of say resistance. He'd log on with his virus, and infect 59 other people. Now given the amount of people that channel into servers regurlarly, he could in fact actually get an average of say 79 other people. So if he only played 3 games and changed server each time here's the simple maths for 3 seperate games.

3 * 79 (approx) = 237

and if each of these people changed servers or played all day, it wouldn't be long before the ENTIRE PSN was down due to virus. But this hasn't happened. And as far as I can see, the only reason anything like this could occur on the ps3 is because the ps3 allows you to download. If the xbox 360 didn't allow it, we'd be fine as far as I can see.

As well as that, there are plenty of reason why people would want a browser, not just to hide their porn sites from their parents.

1) Quick browsing
2) Shared browsing capabilities
3) Computer is in use/broken down

this is just 3 out of the multitude of reasons and guess what, none of them has anything to do with hiding people's URL :O. Imagine that....

Thank you to the person who mentioned "risk". I had thought of that earlier on in the thread but it passed out of my mind before I could put finger to keys. At the end of the day, no matter what you're doing in life, you're taking risks. You sleep around and no matter how much protection you use, you're inevitably gonna catch something.

And look the reality is this, if you're going to porn sites on your browser, downloading files and going to unknown security sites, then inevitably you're going to *** yourself over an dpick up a virus. that doesn't mean it's going to happen every time you turn on your browser.

Question: Why is Denis Leary a star while Bill Hicks is unknown? Answer: Because there's no cure for cancer

Just because it has not happened yet (or at least of what "we" know), does not negate the possibility that it is a very real threat. Why is it that, people are so easily satisfied with the idea of running a Web Browser on their Xbox 360 without a Firewall/ A/V but they would never do the same with their PC?

And for the 3 "points" you make reference too;
  • A Console Web Browser is anything but "quick". My PC is just a few feet away and it is always On (or Asleep) with Firefox one click away. I don't think a Console Browser could match, let alone beat this.
  • My Xbox 360 already Effectively and Safely Shares all of the Media Content with my PC. This is why you have two Options of Windows Media Center and Media Sharing.
  • A real simple answer, it's called a Router. Try one, you  might like it. And if your PC is broken and all you miss is the Web Browser, good luck.
In closing if you simply want to rehash the old "idea" of "Risk" (which has already been covered in this Thread). Risk is perfectly acceptable to me, at my Choice. You or anyone else does not get to make this Choice for me. You using an "Optional" Web Browser, does not come ahead of my use of my Xbox 360. I am quite aware of safe Browsing Behaviors, not to mention the fact my PC has a program designed to protect it. My Xbox 360 would have no protection and "little Timmy" might just Upload a Virus, Worms or some other malicious program to everyone's Xbox 360, simply by playing with him.

If I decide to play in the freeway, that is my choice and my "Risk". If you decide to play in the freeway and I get hit by a bus in my house, that is not choice.

Now all of that was just speculation but it would be a very real and possible scenario if a Web Browser was to be added. I am very aware of Web Browser Behavior and not going to Unknown Sites or not Accepting Unknown Programs. If anything your Web Browser skills might be a little improved if this is any indicator;

Actually, there already is a way to introduce malware to the 360 even without a browser. I just remembered it...
Some people simply connect the HDD via SATA with their PC to load videos and music, that aren't available on the marketplace or they don't want to waste a CD on. Others do the same to illegally load DLC on their HDD, which doesn't work because it only does so on the hardware that bought it.

As you can see, your fear of malware should already be reality. A browser won't change anything to that.

lol now you are truly grasping at straws. If someone disassembles the HDD and Connects it via a SATA Cable to their PC, they deserve everything they get including a Ban from Xbox LIVE for having modded Hardware. That would be "Choice".

And if your are trying to imply that if someone unknowingly had some Unwanted Program on their HDD it would get to Xbox LIVE and my Console, no. It would simply at this point in time, due to no Web Browser Access crash their own HDD or give Corrupted Data.

In the simplest terms as possible;
  • Xbox LIVE is a Secure and Closed Network. If there was a Web Browser on it, it would not be.

If people are not capable of doing a SEARCH for existing web browser threads - then they don't deserve one

Simple fact - this has been going on and on for 3 and a half years - and there's still no browser.

You folks don't get it - after 3 and a half years, you have nothing new to add - you're simply re-hashing a dead subject. Anything that can be discussed, has been discussed. A search will show all of this, but you folks just simply do not want to

For the Browser- I say they should do it, I'm not complaining that they dont have one, but they could add a LOT of convenience to the social network side of the 360, like sending links and stuff(just NO downloads so we dont get malware).

For the group messaging- I will RAGE if they do it, nothing I hate more when some guy on my friends list send me one of those "MTAF" messages and they have some song playing or something. I got that all the time in H2 back in the day and I just removed people right away. And I don't need to hear
"I wont be on for two days cause Im going camping, so when Im not on, thats why!"
NO GROUP MESSAGES!!!

For the clan support- in a way I do miss it, but a bunch of people trying put together a "team" probably wont work anyways if you think you need xbox's help...
