Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
The one thing MS can do to make all of the problems that plague the 360 right is to buy all of their customers PS3's. Yes, I own a 360 Elite that was struck dead by the RROD.

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009

This afternoon I turned on my 360 (after more than 12 hours of idling) and I got the E74 error.

I have been a 360 owner for 2 years now and this is my 2nd 360 to kick the bucket. Quite a frustrating, annoying and expensive experience.

Do I have to send it through them, or can I use a store warranty?

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
Ive had an Xbox since the first console launched and a couple weeks ago I got this error.  First problem Ive ever had and MS handled it great!  It took less than two weeks to send it off, repair it, and get it back.  They also send you a free month of live which makes up for what I paid for and couldn't play online.

IMO, the are fixing this very quickly and Im happy with how they handled it...yeah it sucked to not have an Xbox for 2 weeks, but really, aren't there worse things in the world to complain about?

I had my system for a year and month and I thought waiting 4 years to buy the console all the bugs will finally be out of it, guess I was wrong.  I got 1 red ring then the black screen saying E74 last night.  My system is under warranty but it's a shame they make these cheap products with a low lifespan now. I still have my SEGA MASTER SYSTEM from the 80's and that thing still runs like its new and it been dropped plenty of times.  Microsoft needs to hire some serious quality assurance if they plan to stay in the console market.

What about those of us that were out of warranty, cracked it open and tried to repair it ourselves?  Or those that sent it to a third party repair shop because they felt they were getting scammed by Microsoft into paying for a repair that looked like a scheduled breakdown and was no fault of the user? Are they going to fix or replace those?

I'm quoting myself because I have an answer to my own question. Microsoft DID accept and  repaired my E-74'd Xbox Pro after it had been opened, warranty seals broken, and "penny trick" repair tried. In the notes on the repair order, I did explain that the unit had been opened due to being told it was out of warranty at the time of the breakdown. I boxed it up myself, printed a shipping label, and dropped it off at UPS. That was on the 20th. I just picked it up at UPS today, the 29th. As of right now, it works fine. Microsoft put a 3 month warranty on it and included a free month of Xbox Live.

It is now going to be sold.

I just got the E74 error message earlier tonight. I've had my console since launch (warranty long since expired) and was wondering if it's covered by this warranty extension or am I going to have to pay the $100 to ship it out to get fixed. Thanks

Mine just keeled over today. But, I had mine at least two years (I bought it three months before Gears of War 2 was released), yet when I registered it today to get it repaired, it said my warranty expired. I hope this won't be a problem, considering I've never had trouble since I've bought it.

I got the dreaded E74 myself yesterday. Kind of funny that a bunch of us got it around the same time. When through the repair site on here and they are sending me a box. Now im curious though, on the faqs for repair it still says out of warranty repairs cost $99.99, but when I put in all the info and said it was an E74, it put the cost at 0, but i just figured they were gonna bill me after they saw whether they could fix it. So am I gonna be covered under this new extension since I did the repair online, cause everyone here seems to have talked to support on the phone.

did you still have to fill out your credit card info and all that? I was going to do this the other day but canceled it because I didn't know if they were going to charge my card or not

no i didnt any maybe i just answered my own question, I put the order through, gave the info and they shipped the box, should be here by monday so i can send it out. the interesting thing is because i was curious i emailed support about whether i would be covered, they sent one back saying that due to my internet setup, my email was sent to the wrong support center. They gave me a link to change my location on xbox.com. Its only ever been USA, somehow the email was sent to the UK according to them. Whats worse, I click on the link they gave me, takes me to the version of the site for Mexico. Everything was in a different language. Yea weird. But yea, no they didnt ask for any billing info.

I got the E74 message Sunday also, 1 red light.  I went to the support site and it said my standard warranty was out...but I called tech support and they said to go ahead and put the claim through online, even though it says it is out of warranty, E74 errors are now covered under the 3 year hardware warranty.  As long as you have $0 under repair cost you are good to go, I did not have to give them any credit card info.

juz remember dat the 3 yrs warranty extension given by MS is from the date of purchase of your console ...if MS already replaced your console still the warranty will begin from the date of purchase & not replacement ...

I paid for a repair and it only took 9 days from when I sent it in. Sent it in Jun. 1, got it back Jun. 10. It would have been quicker, but the weekend slowed things down.

My box got the E74 this afternoon.. my friend got it about 3 months ago. This is the 2nd time i will be sending my xbox in in a period of 5 months. Quite absurd if i may say. The first time it broke i sent it in the day that my warranty expired, so i just barely got out of it without paying any money. and they slapped a 1-month Gold card on the box too.

Anyone else having trouble accessing the Support page right now?

Wish List:
--------------
1. Halo: ODST
2. Modern Warfare 2
3. Mass Effect 2
4. DiRT 2
5. Assassin's Creed 2

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
My launch  Pro system first red ringed, then E74 a year or so later. Havnet had any problems with it since. In the meantime my Elite which is about a year and a half old, just E74'd yesterday. I find it odd that even with harddrive install of games and minimum dvd drive use that the system still E74'd.
Im not trying to start a conspiracy but the one common factor I could trace to both systems was the use of the "play and charge" kit. I would leave it plugged in to charge my controllers. From what I understand the kit would turn itself off while using a minimal amount of power to charge the controller and the system itself remaining idle.
Either way, both my systmes have E74'd, both being in a well ventilated area.
I was just about to finish prototype as well.

My Xbox Elite just got the E74 Error.  I was playing Call Of Duty 4 and the screen got real fuzzy, thought it was something with Call Of Duty 4 because I was online.  But shut off the system and turn it back on and was still fuzzy picture.  Unplug the cables and put them back then turn it on again and got the one red ring and the E74 error.  I bought it in December of 07 and bought a Best Buy Warranty with it.  Should I just get a new one from Best Buy or have it fix by Microsoft?  Is there Elite that are Jasper on the market yet?

Return my Xbox 360 Elite to Best Buy and got a new Elite.  MFR Date 10/18/08.  More updated Falcon uses 14 amps instead of 16 amps like my old Elite Falcon.  My Old Elite had DC Brushless fans, this one has the Nidec fans so it quieter, happier about that and Benq DVD drive.  Hope this one last more than a year and half, but won't count on it.

Re: Xbox 360 Warranty extended for E74 - 14 Apr 2009
Yeah my Pro system just RROD'd on me tonight. This is my 3rd unit. I bought my original console at launch. That one RROD about 8months into ownership. I got a refurb that lasted about 6 months after it RROD. So I decided to open up the console, since it was out of warranty, and I applied the x-clamp fix, as well as new thermal paste on the cpu and gpu. That worked for about a year. Then it eventually RROD'd on me. So I opened it up again, fixed it, then traded it in and bought a newer model with HDMI output(around 10/07).  That unit has been fine until today. When I get my refurb, I am thinking of trading it for a PS3, I'm so fed up with MS.
