Mass Effect isn't very violent, in my opinion it should only have been rated T.

Re: Non-Violent, Family Friendly Game
I just recently got an xbox and within the first week i bought 2 titles for my 6 year old daughter who already has nintendo ds....
Cars - the movie game is a race car game and was very easy to pick up and play
Viva Pinata - very cute and weird game but my daughter likes it except for when 1 pinata kills another pinata she got very upset when the snake attacked the rabbit and killed it .... the visuals are not really violent it just shows what looks like a streetfighter fireball coming from 1 animal to the other then eventually 1 explodes leaving candy everywhere to be eaten but i wouldnt recommend it for anyone younger than 6

I agree that the violence was moderate/mild, but violence isn't the sole base of ESRB ratings.

Depending on how you play the game, the language can get pretty colorful.  There's also a lot of mature situations and plots that exceed the 'T' rating.

I just got done playing Super Cow with my niece. She's very young, so I wanted to keep her away from anything not appropriate for her age. I found Super Cow and she loved it. It's an easy control scheme, and she loved the theme, and cartoony look of everything. Best of all it was non-violent and didn't have any content I had to worry about screening for her. I recommend this to any parents looking for a fun "Mario style" game that is approachable for kids.

Dont I understand that, thats one of the type of games that gets old quick...I would love a gardening game, but then I got most of the harvest moons...

My sug is some of the arcade games...

The Simpsons game.

It's about average if you play by yourself.  But with you and your kid simultaniously, it's a lot of fun working out the levels and puzzles together.

I agree on the lego games, Shrek the 3rd, and Viva Pinata.

Viva Pinata is both educational and kid friendly beacuse your raising pinatas which of course isnt very violent. Also they're learning about the food chain and how life is. Just a little violence there....Huh? [:^)]

Re: Non-Violent, Family Friendly Game
tell you what I will do:

give me a list of things your kids like (animals activities etc) and what there mental age level is, so I know what they can play or play at and I will do some looking. I tend to have alot of games myself. Like monster ranchers and such...old ones I know, but they arnt as violent. I might beable to find betterones even and I will send you the info so you can decide yourself. Write me via email so I wont forget.

I can even do one better, I can talk to some people in MS and have them look into adressing the issue for parents concerning this. In fact I will make a visual poll somewhere soon and look up SirLOL as a word in the subject and you you should pull it up when I find a good place for it.

The poll will address this issue for MS to gather information and statistics.

You actually brought up a point I was going to make. Viva Pinata does have *some* violence. I remember being kinda bummed when the snake ate the mouse. Heh. If the child can handle that and fighting (some of the pinatas seem to fight a LOT). also, there are poisonous pinatas that you have to whack.

I know some of these have been listed:
Lego series
Kung Fu Panda (I love this one!)
Peggle
Also check out the other Arcade titles. There are quite a few of them.

First of all, Viva Pinata is ultra violent, but in a way the little kids wont understand.

And I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but there is this new avatar racing game for free, coming out soon on xbox live market place. Little mario kart style. Looks kinda fun, brings back some memories. And the art style is fun and playfull

just because there's a food chain and evolving sytem in viva pinta doesnt mean that its not educational! Sure it may be violent but there learning about food chains and how animals will do anything to survive... Pinata style.

To an extent, Community Games such as 1 Vs 100 and Scene It! also qualify. ALMOST any game rated E for Everyone is for the family, but like I said, not every game rated E is exactly for "everyone".

Boiled SnowCrab, you are TRULY mistaken. I'm pretty sure YOUNG means no blood. GoW, GTA4, and even Halo 3 are out. Portal is a maybe, but Viva Pinata and Lego Star Wars are kid-friendly, as well as FAMILY friendly choices. Kids and teens should know most of all. We play this stuff quite frequently.

A little bit of blood has never harmed anyone, chill out. All these games teach valuable life-lessons, The American Dream (GTA IV), fighting for what you believe in (GoW), never giving up (Halo 3), and problem solving skills (Portal).

Non-Violent, Family Friendly Game
There are video games that are mean't to learn a lesson. Halo 3, Gears of War, and just HOW did Grand Theft Auto enter the mix?! Gears of War is FULL OF BLOOD. A little? That must be a lot for you. GoW and GTA do NOT teach lessons. I think you are in the wrong forums, Boiled. Halo 3... It's okay, but it's still rated teen. What if this thread starter's kids are, like, 7 or 8? Want them playing Gears of War and cussing to their parents everytime they make a mistake? This is a family forum, dude. You've got some HEAVY thinking to do. BTW, Bloody Diplomat was either being sarcastic, or in the same mindset that you're in. If so, then it's time to talk to an adult. And by that, I mean someone on these family forums that doesn't let their young kids (From, like, whenever to about 14 or so) play gears of freaking war. I'm sorry, but i'm just amazed at your opinion.
