if you want to get any enjoyment out of gears online, play player matches with friends. if you actually want to go for the achievements, play ranked while in a party with friends.

Would if I could, but I've only got a couple of friends who've played it at all recently.  I'm afraid that I'm going to end up stuck dealing with the community.  I will give it a try once I've finished up my first single player run, it is always possible that things are being exaggerated here or I might luck into finding a good group.

Re: Lost all faith in the Gears community...
Funny..about 2 years ago I couldn't get enough of this game. Played it all the time. Then eventually it just got ridiculous so I stopped playing it. Decided to give it a try about 2 weeks ago after not playing it for about a year and a half and started enjoying it again. The community may be lousy, but the MP of this game is very good and fun to play. I'm not nearly as good as I once was so I get my quantum singularity kicked most of the time, but it's still pretty fun.

If you don't care about the ranked match achievements, your best bet would be to find some cool people to play player matches with.  Most of the a-holes of the community play ranked matches so you should be able to avoid most of them if you stick to player matches.

i agree.
and when i said "play ranked while in a party with friends" i didn't mean you have to play with them. just be in a party with your buddies and BS while you play ranked. much more enjoyable than listening to people talk *** through your TV lol.

Gears of War 1 is still an awesome game, yeah there's glitches, but only the major douchebags(which in Gears appears to be everybody now) uses them.

This game is a perfect example of developers making an awesome game, and then people ruining it.

Re: Lost all faith in the Gears community...
the community is full of immature, trash talking, moaning nerds who takes every match far too seriously. I don't use a mic anymore because of it. People need to grow up, gaming is for fun, if you need to take the time to send someone an abusive message just because you quit, or chainsawed them, they need to look at their lives and sort themselves out. Get. over. it.

The community is pretty good. I just don't enjoy playing with the people that get all worked up about this game. I've played with some straight up 2-piecers, active downers, chainsawers, host lancers, boomshotters, laggers, and any other kind of annoyances that you can think of but I always find ways around them and it's been a blast everytime that I've been able to get around their tactics and take them out.

Re: Lost all faith in the Gears community...
Gears 1 is still one of my favorite mp games. The community seems to be a lot smaller though, everyone practically knows everyone....well at least I seem to run into the same people all the time and all my friends on Gears 1 are friends with random people i've met on there lol. I only play player matches, I gave up on ranked because people always quit early. I don't have many friends that play it but I also only play with friends. everytime I would join some random game I would be doing really good and they would boot me so I gave up on that too lol.

Re: Lost all faith in the Gears community...
What annoys me is the amount of stuck-up players there are.

1)  Tons of people have "Sniper" in their name, and they think they're hot stuff and just shoot you when they don't get it, then when they do they just get their head popped right away.

2)  Hosts suck.  Host advantage is ridiculous in this game, yet they aren't even satisfied with that.  See #3.

3)  In Player Matches, people can't handle getting killed.  In just TWO games, I got kicked twice.  Here are the two things I did:  one tried to shotgun me in the back when I had out a sniper, so I double-meleed him because if I didn't there would be no way for me to kill him.  The other time I chainsawed a guy who saw me coming and had plenty of time to shoot me to lower my chainsaw.

People think that they're amazing and that anything that kills them should be outlawed.  Melees are in the game and very counterable.  Mad that I double-meleed you?  Kill me in the first shot.  You had the advantage since you were behind me.  Mad that I chainsawed you?  Shoot me.  I'll be stunned and you can kill me.  Every thing is so easy to counter, yet anything that the host doesn't like gets you kicked.  The guy who I double-meleed had 80 kills the round before (it was Annex), and that round only had like 10-15, so apparently since I killed him that means I should be kicked.

The only time I understand this behavior is active-downing.  That is not counterable at all.  With an active sniper, you have a one-hit kill by hitting the person anywhere from any range.  The person can't do anything other than try to avoid you, which is quite hard since you can hit them anywhere.  Other than this, everything is in the game and counterable.  Yet the community has such a big ego that everything that kills them is cheap and qualifies you to be kicked.

This community has gone to *** since I've been gone (which is a long time) - and it wasn't great to begin with.

Re: Lost all faith in the Gears community...
the online community has gone to h3ll
i rarely have a good match without people quitting
but there are two hosts that i always have awesome matches with
elfishfarsight and DEVO.
rarely have a person quit, all players are usually a challenge and it is always lagfree.
lag can be funny
in a match on subway a guy did a sniper shot across the gap were the stairs lead down to the boomshot
aimed at someone and missed, then i just walk passed where the shot went and my head popped off 2 seconds after the original shot missed.

Easy Solution.... but costly on time sometimes, Host your own game =]

Atleast then you won't have to worry about host ending the game too early
