I just had exactly the same problem.  Got 812,000 points on completion of level 7 but no achievement.  Like you, I checked Normal and found the score there - my highest on Hardcore was only 658,000 which I got when I died on level 6.  Since then I had been playing from a restored game.  Thinking one of my saves was corrupt, I went back to all 3 of my saves and let myself die on each one but each time my score ended up on Normal and yet I know I was on Hardcore because of my previous score! 

 

Anyway, the good news...

 

After trying to load these saves many times, I decided to return to the arcade, go back in and start a new game confirming that I was set on Hardcore.  As soon as the game started, I reloaded one of my "broken" saves and this time as soon as I got past 800,000 the achievement unlocked!

 

Got to be worth a try for anyone having trouble with this

just got it by 4k THANK GOD... i kinda did bad at the start so i had to beat that lv 7 elevater with only 3 lives... when i fought the robots i had about    [lllllll                             ]  that uch health left so like 1 hit from em and i was died but i saved every time i hit em so if i got hit i just loaded... if i didnt break 800k i dont think i would of gotten far enough to get the achv :)

I managed to get to level 6 with just over 600,000 if I rememeber with 2 lives but I am struggling I did a save before I died but I have saved it at the beginning of the level. Just wondering can it be done in 2 players this achievement will there be enough point save for 1 player to go all the way for it and the other to just act as back-up against bosses.

 

Hidden lives locations for anyone:

Start of ACT 1 behind the green bin bottom left hand corner.

Mid way through act 2 after completing the truck bit it's right behind the truck at the top of the level.

Level 3 in the alien zone part where you go to fight that tenticle head thing it's at the bottom of it right in line with it's face.

If you have this game as memorized as me and it is your favorite Genesis game of all time, this shouldn't be a problem for you. I'm like 50 overall in my first attempt at this (I did a little saving here and there) with 969,000 something points. I see the top kids got 999,010 or something. I probably couldve got more if I sat there and killed the guys that kept coming out at certain bosses but I had no patience for *** like that.

After many attempts and many close encounters with the 360 and a window, I've finally unlocked it, though it required saving at the start of level 8, starting a new game with the hardcore settings and reloading the level 8 save.

Now it's the versus duo now to finish this game, which could be a problem due to no one on there.

I got my 10 wins  the first day it came out seem like the people on there was easy to beat. I was on a undefeated streak. Had 15 players dc cuz i was pounding them with every character. Not to brag or anything but its pretty easy for a win.   Far as the 800,000 I'm on level 6 with 578,000   I didn't realize to spam the uppercut until about stage 5 boss with the wrestler. He was annoying but I manage to beat him with out losing a life. He only got 2 hits on me lol...  Hope to get the last one soon enough.

This was definitely one of the most annoying achievements I've ever gotten. Having to save everytime I knocked someone down was a real pain in the ***. It can be done though, just save A LOT.

fantastic.  Thank you!  worked like a charm. 

I finally got the 800k achievement yesterday and it was a pain I can tell level 1,2,3 can be beaten without losing any lives at the beginning of stage 4 is really when things start to get harder I beat the boxers with the sword and that was very easy I must say I read on this forum that a lot of players gets as annoyed as me on stage 7 the elevator is extremely annoying and axel's grand upper hardly works because there's so many enemies on screen

Well I got to 400,000 points still trying to get the acheivment I wish it was worth more.

i was struggling and then i changed my play so i save more now. I also go into each boss having a life loss allowance and if i dont meet it i go back to my save and try again. Now im on lvl 5 with more than 9 lives (no idea how many but when i lose one it still says 9 at the moment so im guessing 10 or 11).

When fighting a hard boss save beforehand. If you get a good combo in like 2 throwdowns in a row and a few punches etc and you havent took hardly any damage then save at that point. This will allow you to get through most of the bosses without losing any lives (remember life sacrifice though, on some you can accept 1 or 2 losses). It will also give you a better time bonus as getting hit down takes time :-p

This game rocks, i prefer to play all the way through but for this achievement you do need to save alot.

What a way to get the achievment ¬_¬ i never use the save feature, i mean the game takes 45 minutes to finish and there was never a save on the old MD/Genesis.

For people that just want the achievement, you do know that there is a glitch for it so you dont have to play on hardcore, right?

First off, start a game on hard, set the lives to max, and play as normal..
When you get to the end of the game, (right before you get the last hit on the final boss Mr.X), save it.
Now, start a game on hardcore, and defeat 1 enemy, press start and quit.
Now re-load your game and defeat Mr.X, and after you get your score tallied after the level, the achievement should pop up.

PM me if you still need help with it.

Just a quick question do you need a score of 800,000 on hard before the final boss & do you have to do this in one sitting for the glitch to work ??? or am i able to save it on hard and carry on from were i left off.

Do you need to tally exactly 800,000? Because I've done this TWICE now. I'm REALLY pissed, because frankly, I hate this game. Not because I always thought it was bad, but because of this Achievement. This is the first Achievement to ever make me dislike a game.

Glitch should still work people. Also, you only need to hit 800,000+, not exactly that amount. Hope this helps someone :)
