If you use powerups do you still get the achievement?

There are no power-ups in Classic mode, unfortunately.

Re: Archway is tough

Let me get a few things out of the way.

First, to get the "All game beaten acheivement" you need to complete all the games in classic?

Second, does this go for any other achievements?

Finally, I think I'm playing this game correctly, however, when I ask for a hint; it appears to highlight empty spots or full spots within the archway.  I believe I've exhausted all possibilities; so I try again.

BTW, I love this game and I thin 800 points is fine.  Worthy of the price and I'll be spending tons of hours playing this.  I even took time away from Halo Beta to relax and play.  Sometimes it's not so relaxing Smile [:)]

1. Yes, the beat all games achievement HAS to be done on Classic mode.

2. Someone correct me if I am wrong (and I could be on this one), but the only achievement that you HAVE yo get on Classic is the beat all games one. I am not 100% sure on this though, so please no flaming if I am wrong.

3. When you ask for a hint and it points to a blank spot, game is over. Means no more plays are left.

Bears, Bulls and Cubs through thick and thin.

Re: Archway is tough

Ok, I've put the archway solving program with source code up at http://geocities.com/snapdragon64/archway.zip

It was written for my use only, so it's just an ugly command-line program.  I'm NOT interested in doing technical support for 500 people, so don't send me messages asking how to use it.  Caveat emptor.  In order to run it you'll probably need to install Cygwin (www.cygwin.com).  Or you can compile the source file yourself.

Good luck winning this brutal game!

I think it's a bit more complicated than you realize and while SnapDragon was kind enough to share his efforts with us, I think he did mention he's not doing technical support.  Keep your chin up though and good luck!  Don't feel bad, I STILL haven't beat this variation either!

Yeah, I really don't want to have to help everyone who wants the achievement download, run, and use my program!  But didn't I give a sample input in my text file?  You enter the ranks first, column by column, then the suits.  (ie, 4A39KJ38Q444 222333444555 666777888999 TTTJJJQQQKKK, press enter, then HDSCHDSCHDSC DSCHDSCHDSCH DDDDHHHHCCCC SSSSSSSSDDDD).

Besides, word has it you can actually win these games in Voyage mode.  Then you might not even need my program (though it still helps you know which deals can get you close to winning).

Actually, can we get confirmation from Jonas?  Do games beaten in voyage mode count towards the Solitaire Conqueror achievement?  I don't want to waste any more time than necessary playing Archway.  If I beat it in Voyage mode and it doesn't count, I'll be so frustrated.  The chances of beating this single game are laughable.

I have heard that this isn't the case so I wouldn't bother doing the hard ones in voyage mode.

I did the download. Funny this program can't "find" cygwin. It's neat you provided the program but without any information on where to place the file, well makes it kinda useless. It's like saying I am going to write a walkthrough but in a language you can't read. Pointless.

All you have to do is drag the file into archway folder.

I'm not an everyday cygwin user, but the above post makes it pretty clear where you can find cygwin.

There are many environments in which to develop.  That SnapDragon chose one that is comfortable and convenient to him/her and then further decided to share that work DOES NOT mean that the work is useless and pointless.  C++ is still a prominent language for development.

I for one am glad that SnapDragon provided this program and have found it useful.

Re: Archway is tough

Man...down to the last one, Archway.  I tried it solo for about a week now, off and on, with no luck.  I downloaded SnapDragon's proggy (thanks!), and have been inputting the data for a few hours now with no wins.  I'm reshuffling any time there's Kings or Aces in the bottom 3/4 of the spread.  Does anyone have any tips for other things to watch for that would require a reshuffle?  I'm thinking maybe something like when the same card appears in the bottom half.

Thanks,

JT

You know, if it really comes to it, I can put together a stand-alone executable of his program so that it's much simpler to run. I modified it to run under Windows with Visual Studio (he used g++ in Unix), so I can generate the binary for it.

If you don't mind, I know I would appreciate it.  I'm sure there are a number of other people that visit this thread while working on Archway that would appreciate it as well.  Keep us posted!

Thanks!

I'm at work right now, but I can bundle it together when I get home. Anyone have a way to host it? Can't host it off Geocities.

Re: Archway is tough

Xaegoth, you should try it out on Voyage mode because it just gave me the Conqueror achievement.  I have beaten all the other games in classic mode but tried for over a year and a half to beat Archway and couldn't do it.  Got it in about 2 hours in Voyage mode.  Check my games history and confirm if you like.  12/12 for 200

peace out and good luck

Archway was the last classic game type I needed to complete.  I also struggled for over a year on it, then when I saw this post, I decided to give it another shot in Voyage Mode.  When I beat it - ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED!!!!  Archway is approximately 1,000,000 times easier in Voyage Mode so if you need to beat it, don't waste your time in classic mode.

I don't feel Tardii...
