Vs: Re: Games On Demand WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!
It's unbelievable. I just started in an applied university and pretty much the first thing we heard was "companies only exist to make profit by any means necessary". Since then I've hated it and decided to apply elsewhere. Really, the 1st thing you need to teach to the future leaders and workers is that money is everything?

Needless to say which company sponsors the school... Complete monopoly in their own business area.

I wonder what these "MS stores" will lead to... "Buy your Xbox here for 800$, it's the best offer. Oh and you also get this 5 year old game for 90$ so you have something to play"

In Sweden it´s a even bigger rip-off. Games priced 19.99$ in the US version is priced almost 50$ here.

I'd love to see some sales figures of the European sales of the on-demand service. The pricing is retarded. GTA IV costs more, now, at the marketplace than I paid for it in a retail store on it's release. $19.99 (1400MSP) is reasonable, I think, considering what you get.

If we as well could get fair pricing of the games I'd never see a game disc again.

No, that's for sure. Just thought they were smarter than that...overpriced goods prevents spur of the moment purchases so perhaps one should be thankful. Smile [:)]

Re: Games On Demand WAY TOO EXPENSIVE!!
There are at least 3 GOD games that cost $29.99 U.S. or more that I have brought at my local Wal-Mart for $20 or less each.  As someone hinted at earlier though, the trend in gaming everywhere from my 360 to my precious PC (steam anyone?) is to push downloading games offline which is VERY good for the producer and not very beneficial to the consumer.  I also think things like the avatar marketplace are brilliant because people are willing to pay it and I for one am not.  However, the $10 i potentially would be wasting on avatar items is meaningless compared to the multiple thousands plus of people that are very willing to. It comes down to what people are willing to spend. If gaming gets more expensive I'd probably hit a point where i looked for cheaper alternatives but it doesn't matter as long as a significant amount of people are willing to pay.

Also someone mentioned World of Goo and I'd like to make one quick point on that up until about a week ago, world of goo spent a couple weeks trying out a pay what you want model for the PC version...many people paid one cent, some people paid $50.  Their regular price for the game is $20 and the average price they made on it during the promotion was $2 and some change.  Yet they termed in a huge success and perhaps that is because of a quantity sold or simply because they go their name out there.  Point being, if an independent game developer can afford some generosity, it would be nice to see it from the big dogs too. I don't expect this to happen necessarily but just a point.

Anyway, carry on. :D

$9.99 for Mass Effect on Valve's Steam service or $19.99 for Mass Effect from Marketplace/Games on Demand.

You do the math.

I'll take the PC download without the retarded DRM restrictions that come with the Xbox 360 download.

It's an even bigger rip off in the long run since you aren't actually buying the game, you're taking out a lease on it. You don't physically own it and you don't have the right to resell it after you're finished with it.Buying anything you can't physically touch is almost always a rip off. you're going to get tired of the 360 eventually and then the $100's of dollars put into the system AFTER the initial purchase will be lost.

I wish I had money for a ps3. They're a lot cheaper in the long run with no time cards.
you really don't know what you are talking about, with the ps3. the on'line is free, but so is a bucket of ***, which is comparable.

Unfortunately there are too many companies that just live by that creed without having the constructive thought process to understand it or adapt it.

There are many examples of entrepreneurs that make money hand over fist by giving the customers what they want. Even look at Apple with the iPod versus Microsoft with the Zune.

It's one thing to figure out what people want, but it's another when you decide what you want them to want. That's why piracy is so popular, because too many industries and companies are not giving people what they want, and so they find their own way to be satisfied.

M$ probably spends millions a year rooting out pirated soft ware. every game disc released for the 360 has validation codes. think of it as a password for access to live. when the pirated software fails the validation, ToS is violated by that 360. Then M$ (the evil company that gave us the 360 and all this other great stuff) does what is morally and legally correct. They ban the 360 using the pirated software. sorry. The other option would be legal prosecution, remember how much people paid in fines for down loading songs off the web illegally?

Yes, how dare they or any other company make money and pay their employees and use other companies to make their products!  Try living without money,  help from your government, friends or family.  Works well huh?  Hungry, cold or sick?   There may be companies who business or practices are worthy of such scorn such as the financial companies that causes these financial bubbles but not companies that make entertainment products who if they makes stuff that sucks or is too expensive people don't buy it.   I won't be buying GoD.  I'm sure plenty of other people won't buy them so I'm sure Microsoft (doing the M$ thing is pathetic, stop) will change their pricing scheme.  If not, again, not a big deal since I'm partial to having the physical media.

Rubbish. Piracy exists because people aren't willing to pay the price for something.

We all moan about the price of everything. This forum is full of posts moaning about the price of games, but they always cite examples like COD, and GTA, where companies are making huge amounts of money, they never take into account all the games that struggle to make money at the current RRP.

Pricing is a very difficult to get right, theres a fine line between quantity and price.

I remember reading a site which detailed the percentage of games costs that went where. I was shocked just how little of the RRP developers actually get. Its a pity really that we never get to see that, so we can truely appreciate the reason why we pay what we pay.
