I think this one is worth quoting to bump it up again. Walked into Best Buy yesterday and dropped $10 on a preorder. They handed me a $10 gift card. They are selling MW2 at 12:01 AM on the 10th, at $59.99. With the giftcard, it drops the price to $49.99, the best deal anywhere.

Did you have to pre-pay a deposit? I ask because I did this yesterday at Yonge/Dundas BB & I didn't get the $10 gift card without pre-paying them $10 + taxes = $11.30. I was told I could use the $10 card on anything if I so choose but it will in fact be going towards the MC2 game next week.

For those that pre-ordered... remember to check that the store properly applys the pre-order charge which includes taxes. This means that you should only be paying $39.99 + taxes if you include the $10 gift card since the $10 from 39.99 to 49.99 has already been paid (ie. $59.99 - 10 gift card - 10 pre-order = $39.99).

You have no idea how gift cards and pre-orders work do you?  Let me explain it: They are the same as CASH.  The price will be 59.99+Tax, you will then pay that less your $10, less your Deposit on the pre-order.

We don't need you and how ever many others out there in an up roar thinking they should get the game for 39.99+tax....Nice try though!

I realized long after posting & while off line that there was a flaw with what I had stated & that by giving us $10 gift cards that the end price would not be the same as I had stated but would be as you stated. I apologize for offering incorrect advice but wonder now if we were misled somehow.

I unfortunately also neglected to print out the web site ad in order to capture the EXACT wording used so I don't positively remember if we pre-ordered last week:
- that  we would be able to purchase the game for $49.99 + tax (that was what I thought the deal was as I remember seeing that price listed and that was what I was EXPECTING to have to pay for the game),
- OR that a $10 gift card was being offered upon pre-paying $10 + tax (this in fact happened when I went into the store to pre-order) which we could use towards the game or anything else of our choosing.

The former is definitely different than the latter when you factor in the tax ramifications.

Without a copy of the deal I cannot comment further as to which of the two above is in fact the correct deal & so now I expect I will have to PAY the balance of $59.99 + tax - $10 gift card - $11.30 prepaid (includes tax).

It's not quite as good as the deal I thought I was getting but at least it's better than paying full price.

I would like to also warn people who preordered through futureshop - they were initially listing the game at $69. If you preodered it for that much, be sure to complain if they charge you that much as they have now reduced their price to list the game at $59 REGULAR PRICE (ie not "one day only or anything like that") .. if they charge you any more than that, get them to refund the difference as stated in their store policy.

I forgot to mention this in my last post:

In the latest Gamestop/EB Games e-mail newsletter, it's stated that they will be holding midnight launch events for Assassin's Creed 2. I assume you can pick-up Left 4 Dead 2 at the same time, because I've been able to pick up different games at launches before. They'll probably be selling anything that comes out next Tuesday. It says to call to see if your local store is holding a launch.

Also, you get 5 exclusive in-game race events if you pre-order MTV Vs. ATV Reflex there.

Wick - At midnight, they can sell l4d2. and I can also say that the EB's have them in stock now.

Also don't forget to ask for your bat if you pre ordered it ! and if you pre ordered assassin's creeds - it comes with 2 bonuses. the extra map in the game & something related to conviction.

Thanks for adding some more information to my post. I had forgotten about the bat, but I'll make sure to ask about it. Usually that EB forgets to give me my codes when I pre-order and it always slips my mind. I've even asked them to hold one for me after they've forgotten to give it to me originally, just to have another csr give it to another customer instead.

I was figuring that they'd be selling every one of Tuesday's releases at Monday's midnight launches because they did that during NHL's launch. Thanks for confirming that.

Tuesday is going to be a busy release day for me - probably the busiest of the fall. I switched a Tekken 6 pre-order I had to L4D2 and also pre-ordered both Assassin's Creed 2 and the God of War Collection. I pre-ordered God of War at another store though, so I'll have to try to rush over there afterwards. Assassin's Creed's status as a gaming guaranteed title helped my decision to pre-order because there's no risk if I find it dull. I'm interested in trying it and the exclusive maps. I'll make sure to ask for the code for them.

It wouldn't hurt to call your local EB if your thinking of going at the Assasin's Creed 2 midnight release to pick up L4D2. My wife asked the store were we pre-ordered and they are doing a midnight release of AC2. She asked if we could go pick up L4D2 at the AC2 midnight release and they said no. However, they will be opening a hour earlier on tuesday, 9am instead of the usual 10am. She did get a ad with the following deals:

-Save $5 on each accessory you purchase with a copy of AC2

-Save 30% on a AC2 strategy guide when you purchase AC2

-Get End War for only $8.99 with the purchase of AC2

-Purchase AC2 for the 360 and get Splinter Cell Conviction wallpapers and ring tones

-Save $5 on a 12 month live card with the purchase of AC2

-Save $5 on any 1 used game valued at $39.99 or higher with the purchase of AC2
