Here is his email address, we should keep asking about it untill we get some sort of an answer. This isn't good enough, they need to make some sort of an announcement to let us know whats going on.

Jason Bergman (2K Games) [jason.bergman@2kgames.com]

I don't know that this will get anywhere Truck.  I'm sure Jason, and anyone else contractually involved with this, is bound by disclosure restrictions.  They can't release anything on this until the P/R shirts say they can.  The best we can do until such time is get "unofficial" word, indirectly through people like Daryl.  We at least know that some sort of Links product is coming out for the 360.  I'm sure we'll get more specifics on this as soon as 2K Sports sees fit.  Pressuring Jason with e-mails until that time is going to do little more than alienate him, IMO.

Provided this rumor is true (I haven't read the announcement anywhere yet) I'm really excited. Not to knock the Tiger Woods games, but Links 2004 was/is the best golf game on Xbox 1. To this day I still play it online with my buddy.

I bet the game will really shine on Xbox 360.

No clue. The official backwards-compatible game list hasn't been announced yet. I suggest that when this list comes out we check it for Links 2004. If it's not on there, we should start a massive thread asking the developers to make the emulation code so we can play it on our Xbox 360s. Big Smile [:D]

This is speculation on my part, but here's my theory on this... The course creation software that Indie Games uses is probably pretty esoteric in design.  It's not something an end-user could sit down with, read an 80 page tutorial, and take off with it.  Furthermore, it would also require, at the very least, an XBox 360 development kit, to create a course on the scale and magnitude of what you'll see shipped with the game.  Finally, I think it would be cost prohibitive for Indie Games to produce an end-user course creation utility, capable of producing courses of the quality that are produced in-house.

I'm probably being a bit cynical in my analysis of this.  It will be interesting to see how this takes off once Links 2K6 arrives on the scene.  Maybe it's not as impossible as I think.  I do know that my brief experience with the Tiger Woods 2003 and 2004 Course architect showed me that it takes a lot of effort to produce something worthwhile, and I think that architect made some compromises to make it easier for the end-user to use.  In my opinion, Links 2K6 will be significantly more complex than TW 2003/04, in this sense.

Links should definitely bring the course editor to the Xbox. On the PC this was probably one of the biggest draws for the title. And the courses that a select few designers made were simply amazing. The sound, the textures, etc... It made MS's courses look like child's play. The course creator was very complex, and you could either go into high detail or make something simple. That was up to the user in the end. Some of the deisgner took week and even months to design courses. A few of them would go out and take 100's of snapshots of a course just to be sure they got every detail right. It was amazing!!! Ever get the chance, look up the name Mike Jones on the internet, as he was one of the top course designers out there.

But as stated, it would only be an assett to the Links series on PC especially with the marketplace feature that the 360 will have. I took a few stabs at designing courses, but it was just a bit to tedious for me. I helped design one with information on the layout, but a buddy of mine did the hard part of creating it...LOL! Linkscorner.com or something like that is the premiere spot for downloadable user created courses. And when you see some of them, made by the in game course creator, you'll be amazed.

A course editor would be a huge selling point to me, but I would buy another Links regardless. I dont know if this would sway any Tiger die hards, I doubt it though.  I hope the make Links more advanced to try a differentiate it though.

I'm well familiar with Mike's courses.  I have 4 or 5 of them.  There were some excellent courses made for Links  2003 by end users.  I just can't see how the interface could be made to allow it to happen with a console, as closed as the architecture is for them.  I sucked at course design, but I do respect the work of those who excel at it.  Maybe I simply lack the vision to see how they can make this work for the 360... it wouldn't be the first time I couldn't see the forest for the trees!

With the 360 mouse and keyboard support that is supposedly on the horizon, who knows. BUt also the interactivity with the system and your PC could very well make the course editor a reality. Again, its only specualtion.

BTW...I sucked at making courses too as I didn thave the patience.

There is a great user edition of it for Links 2001 and Links 2003 for the PC. They also created the Par 3 course at Augusta that the players compete on the day before the Masters. Definitely worth checking out.

Re: Links 2k6 for the 360

A problem with Links that TW has over it, is that EA has gone and done an exclusive deal with the PGA.  Of course Links can have licensed players since that is separate, but even there EA has bought up alot of the top golfers on the Tour.

There is no question the EA people are working on making their console versions more akin to the sim versions they do on the PC.  Every report on TW 360 says that this game will have you "work" the course like you have to do in Links and the graphics finally exceed what is on Links, especially with the interactive galleries.

EA could certainly stand some competition again, they need to be pushed to get better and Links on the 360 will be a great thing.  I just hope they don't go the route of Amped3.  They have stated in interviews (check Gamespot) that they have intentially dumbed down the game to make it more accessible for everyone.  If they take the same approach with Links, then we are just looking at another TW game on the 360.

I for 1 could really care less about licensing players in a golf game...who cares.  Evferyone makes there own characters anyway.  Courses are important though

It's up to 2K Games to bring the series back into the limelight. Links should be everything that TW is not so that people have a viable alternative to choose.

And the most annoying thing is XSN was a fantastic idea, I just hope that the 360 allows user created comps... The TW06 ones are a complete waste of time

Eh, Microsoft Game Studios stopped making sports games because they were horrible and couldnt compete with the competition. For example, Fever, Inside Pitch, and NHL Rivals were just down right catastrophes.

Links, Top Spin and Amped were the only solid sports titles to come from MS. XSN still exists for games like Top Spin, Rallisport Challenge 2, Links, etc...XSN is a product created by MS, not a game developer.

I for one am looking forward to the next edition of Links both on the PC and Xbox 360(hopefully). The only downside I see to Links is the possibility of it being multi-platform instead of an xbox exclusive. May have an effect and may not. So I guess for now we'll just play 2004 and Tiger 06 until they give us some info. Also remember guys, Ubisoft is making that VJ Singh game. When I think Ubisoft I think of shooters..so not sure what to expect...LOL!

I think it's very positive here that this thread has recieved over 1,000 "looks" since it was posted a couple weeks ago.  Certainly shows there is great interest for a XBox 360 version of Links.

Without a doubt!!!!!!!!! LOL! I've always enjoyed the Links community since the early days on the PC, and while I was at first skeptical of the crowd that the xbox version may have draw, I have not been disappointed. Kudo's to the Links community!!

It's going to happen.  We don't really have an idea of when though.  Daryl Welsh, the Producer of Links 2004, has already confirmed that 2K Sports is working on the next Links for the XBox 360.  The development team apparently is composed of a number of the Links 2004 team members, which bodes well for the Links 2K6 (?), in my opinion.  We had a good thread going about that before the forums were reset.  I wish I'd had the foresight to save that thread before the plug got pulled.

I think I posted some information about that elsewhere.  I'll dig it up and post it here again.  Maybe we can get the discussion jump started.

I still think we wont hear about the next version of Links til after Febuary. Just my guess. I am actually looking forward to trying out TW06 on 360 next week. Since all these games will be in days before the 360 arrives I was told to stop on in and if it wasnt already loaded on the kiosk they would load it up for me. Hopefully its a decent game and not as easy as the xbox version.

I know this is pure speculation but... it was recently announced that Halo and Halo 2 would be backwards compatible with the 360, and would also display at 720p.

Now if Links 2004 were to get the same treatment I think the current generation of Links fans would be satisfied with this until Links 2006 arrives.

If you are one of the 3-5% to have a 360 failure please paste this into your sig.

That would be sweet if they did.  Can you imagine how good that would look?  Just have to wonder if there's enough support left for it though.

I really liked MS' Inside Drive 2004.  It's still my favorite basketball game.  I didn't like Inside Pitch or NFL Fever though.  Top Spin and Amped were so-so, but they didn't convert me.

I just checked IGN's list of XBox backwards compatible games published today.  The list contained 200 titles, but unfortunately, Links 2004 wasn't among them Sad [:(]  The story ended with the caveat that the list was still growing, however.

Yeah don't give up yet. I am sure with the continued on-line play of Links it is only a matter of time before it is certified as well. Should look good at 720P.

Yeah, also thet way it sounds the majority of us wont even be able to get an Xbox 360 at launch regardless. So we'll all still be playing on our normal xboxes anyhow.

Now also, we could look at this as a great sign as well. maybe the new links is just around the corner hence good reason to not put the old Links on the 360 as competition for their new title. Just a thought..LOL! Wishful, but still a thought.

Re: Links 2k6 for the 360

I'm reading some puzzling stories about the XBox 360's distribution.  The one on IGN yesterday, suggesting that it may be as late as April, before supplies are widely available.  My current financial situation is going to prevent my purchase of one until March anyway.  The way the IGN story reads, I might have trouble getting one then!?

Meanwhile, the wait is being made easier by a quality selection of games I already have for the XBox.  Links 2004, NCAA Football 2006, TOCA Race Driver 2, Winning Eleven 8, and Inside Drive 2004 are still amazing and entertaining.  I still hope Links 2004 makes the backwards compatibility list, especially if it means that it will be bumped to 720p resolution.   Confused [*-)]  I don't know why I'm so worried about 720p, at this point,  I don't have a high definition television.  I would be curious enough to temporarily connect it to my 19" computer monitor though.

TW series is a real shame, it seems Links holds the right's to good graphics for golf games. I am so excited i finally found that links2k6 is in fact being made. The course creater seems like it would be a gem as downloadable content for like $15 bucks or Live points. Brings me back to when I use to play the nicklaus series on PC when I could find a remake of almost any major golf course created. The creator would add so much more re-play value. Oh and I am also hoping for a Bandon dunes course, any one of the 3 open would be nice=)
