Yeah im the dude that ended the Recon thread in the Halo 3 forum...

I think my hardest level on COD2 would be The Silo.  Seemed like no matter how fast I moved and sniped the enemies setting up mortar launchers, it was not fast enough.  When I finally beat it I was happy.  Another toughy would probably have to be Hill 400.

D-Day. It was nearly impossibe, the easiest part of D-Day is the Silo. Thats what i think.

Did you use the American sniper rifle or the German one that can be found in the town? 

It is much easier with the German one.

The German one is pretty nice for the last part of The Silo, due to its larger clip and faster reload.  It makes sniping all those mortar teams from the top of the silo much easier.

Every level was a good challenge. But I must say that Hill 400 in general was crazy hard. Getting to the top, clearing out all the germans, killing the mortar crews, and defending it was one heck of a ride. When those fighter planes came in and the music played I took a few deep breathes and realized that I was sweating. Boy was that my most cherrished achievement.

All I have left is the first mission of D-Day. I believe it's called "The Battle for Pointe Du Hoc". I watched my friend beat Hill 400 a few months ago, and he's really good at this game, but it took him about an hour to beat the last 5 minutes of the last mission (when the timer comes on). So when I started trying to beat the game on Veteran, I got really worried that I'd spend a long time trying to beat it. Well, it did take me a few days to beat the last Hill 400 mission, but when I got the last 5 minutes, it wasn't as hard as I thought. I died right about near the 4-minute mark, and I had to go a few seconds back, but after I died the first time, I finished the last 4 minutes without dying at all. I couldn't believe it! My friend died 6 or 7 times in the last minute alone. I guess it was all random, and I just lucked out.

But now I'm currently on the Battle for Pointe Du Hoc, and it's really tough. I keep dying about 20 minutes in, and then I have to go all the way back to when I just got on the top of the cliffs. There are no checkpoints for a while, even on Normal difficulty. Oh well, I'll get it eventually. I hear it's a 3-hour ordeal on its own.

i know everyone is sayin the silo and d-day are the hardest ones. but your forgetting 1 thing. THE BRITISH LEVEL WHERE YOUR AMBUSHED IN THE BEGINNING! ITS IMPOSSIBLE.  ive already beat the whole game on veteran. my advice for this level is to hide behind the sand bags on the opposite side of the gate u pass through. use your lee-enfield to kill a few germans and then run for the gate. works everytime.

Yeah, that mission's got the toughest beginning. It took me a week to get past the first 3 minutes. What I did in the end was run to the burned out tank, lay prone right next to it, between the tank and the wall. I picked off a few Germans with the Thompson. Then I threw all of my smoke grenades when the gate got opened, and I hoped for the best.

Here is how I did it on veteran.  Very simple and reliable:

1) Quickly Get out of the vehicle and immediately run around to the other side of the vehicle for cover.

2) lay prone facing the front of the vehicle

3) crawl forward a little and you will have 3-4 Germans to shoot up on the opposite wall.  They are fighting your squad and won't go for you.

4) Stay covered, turn around and crawl to the back of the vehicle.  Go slowly and cautiously as you get to the back of the vehicle.

5) 4-5 Germans will pop up from behind the opposite wall.  If you crawl slowly they will pop up one at a time. Easy kills.

6) Get up and go through the gate to your checkpoint.  The squad has taken care of everybody else.

How hard is The Battle of Matmata (the one where you get ambushed in the beginning in the alleyway) compared to D-Day and Hill 400? I'm playing through the game on Veteran's (first time through) and just wanted to know what I can look forward to, because although it took me one hour to complete, Matmata could have been much worse.

i thought that mission was really easy even on veteran.. i mean, yea first time i died cuz i wasnt expecting anything, but next time i just through 2 or 3 smoke grenades and hid, picking off any guys i saw on the roof.. as soon as ur guy says, "through the gate" or w/e u just go through and u get a checkpoint

The silo was hardest for me too.  D-Day was frustrating at times, but the silo - I got killed so many times that I actually shocked myself when I beat it.

I actually found the D-Day lvl to b really easy, the one level i did have trouble on was the british lvl were in the first part  you start in a house with two other guys and u have to kill all the germans with the m60, sorry i cant give u the name i havnt played campaign in awile

I'm about to complete the very last mission in veteran right now.  I'd have to say hill 400 made me want to throw my controller at the tv.  Taking out the mortars was a pain when they kept hitting you and its was hard to see the mortars and snipe them while getting shot at.  Then defending the hill was tough because they bombard you with grenades if you try to hide.

D-DAY..I finished it earlier today it was so weird, i have tried it hundreds of times and today i did it all on about 5 lives.
