Are you talking about service pack 2 for windows xp? I dont know if having sp2 makes a difference, it could though. I would try resolving that issue first and getting it installed. Have you tried going through windows update?

I was about to uninstall wmp11 and decided to try Leaf Dynamo's fix first.  It worked like a charm.  Not to slam anyone here, but its a rare find to get some technical problem solving via these forums that actually works.  Thanks for taking the time Leaf...good show.

Tried your method but still no luck for me. What's weird to me is that at one point my 360 was able to find my pc, but I don't what happened. I have put hours & hours into this and it's so frustrating.

I did everything in this thread as well, last step I tried on my own was to disconnect the computer from within the 360 interface, then reconnect, that got me connected. However, it finds no video, just music and pictures.

I got WMP 11 yesterday when then update came out and everything worked fine all night.  Turned my 360 off last night and now the 360 won't detect the comp.  I don't understand.  I did the whle DRM thing and that didn't help.  This is BS.

The 360 only reads stuff out of the directory that WMP is set to rip to.  So move everything you want into that folder, videos and all.

A new media server was not initialized because WMCreateDeviceRegistration() encountered error '0xc00d2782'. The Windows Media DRM components on your computer might be corrupted. Verify that protected files play correctly in Windows Media Player, and then restart the WMPNetworkSvc service.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Make sure the services "HTTP SSL" and "Universal Plug and Play Device Host" are started.

And for the peeps who couldnt solve their problem by doing this fix; sorry, this isnt an end all fix, it just resolves one of the issues which can cause the 360 to not detect the pc, there are other issues out there. I would try what ShonePorcupine did.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
Everything was working fine last night with WMP11 and the sharing with my 360.  I turned the 360 off turned it back on later and all was fine.  Turned it off for the night and when I turned it back on today it wouldn't detect my PC.  I tried what you have posted here and that didnt help.  I then removed my 360 from my sharing list and couldn't figure out how to get it back.  Next, I went ahead and did a system restore back to before I had WMP11, I had 10, and went back to the 30th of October.  Now I re-downloaded WMP 11 and set everything up and it doesn't work.  This doesn't make any sense what-so-ever.  How could it work fine last night and I didn't change anything then today it not work.  I am getting extremly frustrated(sp).

Personally i'd suggest just removing windows media 11.

Its not worth it really, not until they fix the obvious bug where it doesn't work with media connect and xbox's can't detect the pc.

So if you are still having problems. Remove WMP 11 and go back to 10. You can find a guide in goggle for reolling back. Once done reinstall media connect the thing from www.xbox.com/pcsetup

Yea but it worked perfect last night when I first downloaded it.  Now today it stopped.  I tried system restore to before I downloaded it then re-downloaded it (WMP11) and its still not working.  Doesn't make any sense.

This worked for me! Got to "start", then "run", and then type "services.msc" without the quotes. Then find the "HTTP SSL" and "Universal Plug and Play Device Host" services, and make sure they're started. Once I did that, I was able to connect.

Didn't work for me.  Thanks though.  When I run test connection on the 360 I'm getting PC selected failed.

Re: For people having problems with their 360 detecting their PC.
Adding more sharing hackery that I went through

If you find that your PC will detect your XBOX after you hit the "Test Connections" button, that just means that the SSDP traffic isn't getting through. You can restart the SSDP discovery service by going to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services -> SSDP discovery and right clicking it and restarting it. I think going through Network Setup Wizard probably restarts all of your network services so this too should get restarted.

If the "share my media" option doesn't even come up, you might need to run the network setup wizard as I think it means WMP11 can't find a network to share on, for some odd reason.

If the PC refuses to detect the XBOX you might want to check a few things starting with your firewall. http://forums.xbox.com/7734613/ShowPost.aspx details the correct ports to open on your firewall.

If that doesn't work, you should probably check your XBOX's ip address to make sure it's valid. You can do this by going to the System Blade and selecting network settings. If your XBOX is on a router it'll look something like: 192.168.X.Y where X is your subnet number and Y is some number assigned to your XBOX between 2 and 255 your gateway should be 192.168.X.1. If your gateway is 0.0.0.0 your ip address doesn't look like 192.168.X.Y then you've got a problem.

You can (likely) fix that by manually giving your XBOX an ip that is on the router. You should check your PC's ip address first by...

1) go to start -> Run
2) type "cmd" in the window that comes up
3) type "ipconfig" into the command prompt window

you'll see something like

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.<subnet number>.2
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

On your XBOX manually punch in an ip thats 192.168.<subnet number>.(some number between 2 and 255, but not the number your PC has). Use the same subnet mask and the same default gateway.

For your DNS servers, manually set your primary DNS server to the default gateway. Test your media connection and hopefully everything will just work at this point.

Another possible problem (though extremely unlikely) is that your PC subnet number and your XBOX subnet numbers are different. This could mean that your PC and XBOX are on different subnets, at which point they wouldn't be able to see each other. You can fix this by manually setting the ip of your XBOX so that it's on the subnet of the PC.

Of course, if your XBOX ip is fine, you should probably try a reboot of the PC.

Can't see media that you have? Did you add any media folders when you had WMC2? Well, you need to readd them in WMP11 by right clicking library and selecting "add to library..."

AFAIK, WMP11 will only share out MP3, WMA, WMV, and JPEGs to the XBOX, any other media is not enumerated by one or the other, if your files don't have those extensions, you won't be able to stream them to the XBOX. Also, you can't just trick the XBOX by renaming a divx avi file to wmv (it'll show up but it won't play), you need to actually reencode the video.

Also, rolling back to WMP10/WMC2 didn't work for me, so I wouldn't advise trying it unless you're trying to frustrate yourself. WMC2 didn't work... at all. It wouldn't even start. This is after trying to install WMC2 after an uninstall of WMP11 and a system restore to before I installed WMP11.
