" 4.4 - Can I use the HD Component cable that comes with the premium Xbox 360 on my non-HDTV that has standard component inputs?

A. Yes, the HD Component cable will take care of both HD and SD component signals."

Hi Trance, i got abit confused with this part.  Does this mean i can use the HD plugs (red, blue, green plugs)on the AV (yellow, red, white) of a non-HD tv (standard) tv?  is my understanding right? or does standard component have a blue, green, red inputs on other non-HD tvs?

They'd be useless if they didn't, but it never hurts to just read the specs.

Re: Xbox 360 Video FAQ by trancevib

thanks for taking the time Trance, i read through your FAQs and it gave me alot to think through before i get a HD ready tv.  Just have to really get more aquainted with the techinical aspects in choosing the right TV.

I just want to get some feedback on this, is it good enough to have these specs for a tv: 800 m/s response, 32 inch, 800:1 contrast ratio, 1366X768 resolution, 720p, HD ready, 16:9 screen format (has adjustable menu to change the format), Manufacturer: Philips.

xbox needs to put in 16:10 aspect ratio on their next dashboard update, there are thousands of people playing via vga on a widescreen computer screen and not getting the best results/and expeirenceing many objects not showing/loading textures slowley( eg. last level of gow, i was standing in mid air, the train was invisible". there has been many forms/petitions around the net for 16:10 support. PLEASE xbox but in 16:10 support in your next dashboard update, and you will make many customers happy :)

Re: Xbox 360 Video FAQ by trancevib

i am running my xbox 360 on a 20 inch widescreen moniter. the moniter can handle resolution up to 1680x1050. which setting will look better when using vga, the 1280x720 or 1280x1024 with the widescreen option selected? the 2nd option has more pixles so will it look better? or will the wide screen option stretch those pixles?

thanks

Hey there.

Either resolution is fine really, you should just try them to see which one looks better on your monitor.

I have a 1650x1050 22inch LCD that I use for my 360, and I have mine set to 1280x1024 and have the aspect set to widescreen, as I find this gives the best image on my monitor.

Hey trance, how did you get the A/V icon?  I post all the time in the A/V forums and I know EVERYTHING about it.  So how do you get the icon?

Hey mate. I was offered it after I completed a pervious version of this FAQ.

It really doesn't mean anything though, there is nothing gained from having the icon. What's important is what you do for the community, and you can do that with or without the icon. Making a name for yourself is much more important than having a small icon next to your posts. People will trust and listen to you more based on the name you make for yourself, rather than whether or not you have an icon.

If you work hard, and the mods see that, you may be offered it one day, but in all honesty don't let it get to you or affect your time here in the slightest. It isn't worth it.

I've tried to help out on the AV stuff too, got a bit lost the last few months but oh well... I remember I used to help a bit, I'm a little bit of an audiovisualphile. And because Halo 3 is coming out, I'm gonna hook my 360 up to my PC screen, and I asked before but no-one knew, my pc screen can't do 1280x720 without making it 4:3 aspect ratio, so would Halo 3 output 4:3 as letterbox? Because I love widescreen but don't have a monitor, my TV does but it's standard def. I'm gonna try and get VGA cables and all just for a week or so of Halo 3, I really want to see it in HD glory :), also, with the VGA cable, monitors have 2 ways. My LCD uses a cord that you can remove, so you can plug a cord into it, but my CRT which my parents will want me to use has the cable where it plugs in. Does the VGA pack have some connector that will let you connect it to my CRT? (Like a Male-to-male adaptor?)

Thanks everyone. I'm back on live in a few weeks!

Stick.

I had the same problem... I remember having to change my settings back to SD on the plug at the back of the 360, change the hertz, then switch it back to HD.... Big Smile [:D]

Don't know the answer to the first question, but I believe the Microsoft VGA cable does come with a gender changer adaptor.

what i actually meant to ask was thru hdmi how do u get 60hz but it turns out that trick using the component cables can be done with hdmi as well. it just means pluging in component cables changing the hz to 60 then switching off the console then hooking up your hdmi. and bam 60hz on hdmi

Hello,

I am looking to buy a 360 Pro console. I was wondering if someone could let me know if the new 360s with the HDMI port and the additional Heat Sink are available in stores in Sydney, Australia. refer http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/33293/98/.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-images/B000UQAUWW/103-9321889-5821457?ie=UTF8&sort=quality&index=0&page=1#gallery

I checked with EB games and Myers and the staff there didnt seem to have a clue. They told me if I want HDMI I have to buy the Elite or the Halo 3 edition.

what they said is pretty much correct. The HDMI pro version wont becoming onto our market for a while - if you want the HDMI connection, then the ELITE is the way to go.

Ok Trance been awhile :P

Long story short.

Blah,blah,blah........

We moved, sold TV as it's to much trouble to take to Tas. Bought a new one, tons better.

LG 42" (107cm) LCD HDTV

http://img142.imageshack.us/my.php?image=1000503bu6.jpg

But i can't test it out fully as my boxes are still on the way from QLD. But once they come, i should be in heaven now.

Thanks for your info and this thread, has help........I think.

ps. It also says it does 1080p in HDMI :)  But know the funny thing is that my launch 360 doesn't have the connection, lol. Maybe it's time to upgrade my 360 too,lol

Is there any way around all this that you know of? (cable ad, etc)

They all said I was insane... But now I laugh! Here is the HDMI connector for Xbox 360's without an HDMI port.

Luckily i saw your post before i ordered it. I just can't wait to try out 720p or 1080i gaming. I'm not that fussed just yet about 1080p so i can wait i guess and see what is, and then grab it later.

ALOT of games will have to be replayed now,lol Big Smile [:D]

Hey Trance or anybody in the know, is this the connection i'm talking about (in above posts) as i can't tell by the angle of the picture.

But wouldn't the lower part of device on the pic plug into a standard 360 and the HDMI cord (as pictured next to it) plug into the top part while the other end of the HDMI cord plugs into the HDMI part on the TV??

Thus giving 1080p with HDMI with standard 360s without a HDMI port on the console.

*phew.... say that 3 times realy fast. Indifferent [:|]

To much stuffing round, i think i better trade in me oldie and get an updated one. Crying [:'(]

Nope. if the 360 doesn't have 1080p, you can't magically convert it within a cable sorry Smile [:)]

If you could, I would have bought this cable as soon as I saw it!

But wasn't 1080p part of the firmware upgrade for all 360's? I was under the impression that it was...
