Now I'm starting to understand why I lost my temper and thought the chain is impossible to perform. I guess the main description of this skill is to destroy 3 enemies of one color and then 3 of any of the enemies but 3 same colors at a time. 3 light enemies equals 1 chain. Same goes with 3 dark enemies=1 chain. Geez. If only someone could've been more dsecriptive of the main skill of the game, maybe I wouldn't have to get angry like this!!!!!

Are you tempting me? It took me several years and time of helll with lots of stress to understand the scoring system for Ikaruga. Don't try my patiences after all I have gone throught understanding this game.

When I get back to playing Ikaruga, I'll try to use the chain system more effectively. Right now, my Xbox 360 is out of comission and I need to send it for repair. So further Ikaruga gaming will be halted till that time.

Well thanks for explaining it. I really didn't understand it at all. So from what I gather, it's kill 3 alternate color, kill 3 alternate color, repeat to build up combo chains. Cool, I can do that.

Now the real major problem is that I can't get repeated Max Chains and not die in one single stage. I can't do it. I just can't. There is no way for me to do that. This game is no fun like this you know. I don't even have that brain to think that fast. I'm near-sighted as well. I can't see things like they're going fast at the same time. It's confusing.

As far as I know, I will never be allowed any A rank or Dot Eater achievements nor no continues. I can't. I can't do it. I give up on that. It's pointless.

I can't. No matter how much practice I do for Ikaruga, I'll never get better. Sorry, but I can't do it at all. It's too much. I can't stop dying. I can't see very well without my glasses. Enemies won't stop shooting me. It's completely impossible to avoid white and black attacks at the same time. There is no white/black shield at one time. I suppose Japan has that cheat that we don't. Stage 03 for the most part is impossible to complete without Free Play because I keep on colliding into walls inevitably. I can't evade them since my Ikaruga is very slow.

Not to mention, Stage 04. The enemies won't stop shooting me. It's impossible to continue like this without Free Play. And since Free Play is not in the Xbox 360 version, I'm pretty much messed up and in hot water.

Actually, Free Play is on the Xbox 360 version. You have to play the game for around 8 hours total (collectively, not in one sitting). As the hours you play go up, you will keep unlocking additional continues until you get to 9, and then Free Play unlocks at that point. I got it about 4 days ago.

I unlocked it 4 or 5 days ago. As soon as I did I thought of this post. lol

i had no idea the chains worked in 3's. did the help explain this? i have looked at it a couple of times trying to figure it out, i just assumed the chain size depended on 'flocks' of enemies ( but obviously still wasnt getting good chains ). struggle to understand how ppl perfect to get such amazing scores in this game, tho that said theres prob some 5 yr old japanese boy that gets a++ everytime whipping my insignificant lil c++ pride. woot, go boy!

A good way to get used to the chaining system is to try chaining at the very beginning of level 1 as the enemies don't shoot there.

The chain system works like this:

Kill three enemies of one color and then you can kill three more enemies of one color. It doesn't matter the color, they just have to be three of a kind. You can kill three white ships and three black ships for a valid chain. You can kill three black ships and three white ships for a valid chain. You can kill three white ships and three more white ships. Each of these examples are two chains.

The levels always send enemies in patterns of threes, you just need to aim at the right ones to continue the chain.
