Storyline In Video Games For Today & Tomorrow.
I used to be one of those gamers who didn't care for the storyline because it was a waste of time, stupid & lame... All I wanted to do is play until the game is over... But now it seem so interesting. Every new game I've play has a great storyline. Almost like watching a movie now. It's wwwooowww, amazing... I don't know what to think. Just kept on watching. Such as Call of Duty 4. First you're talking sh*t when killing then all of a sudden just turn zombie because you wanna listen to the storyline. It's all worth a smoke break now.

Which Game You Guys Think Has The Best Storyline?

There's a lot of them out there. Most of the Lucas Arts games all had great stories. KOTOR being one of the best as it had a major plot twist near the end. I am also enjoying GTA 4's storyline a lot right now. It keeps bringing me back to do more missions to find out what happens next.

Bioshock was a interesting story for me. Of course, a big part of that is the audio tapes which give more insight as to what happened before the downfall of the Rapture.

As good as a movie, eh? Most movies coming out lately have absolutely crap storylines.

I remember Myst having a good and well told story.

Re: Storyline In Video Games For Today & Tomorrow.

The best story line in a video game series is without a single doubt, the Halo trilogy. Many people that have only played Halo 3 and haven't bothered with the campaign in the first two look by this, and say things like "wtf Cushion Halo 3 didn't make sense!!!!" (Probably because you didn't beat the first two jackass)

Halo is very in depth, and it even has novels adding even more depth to the storyline (Fall of Reach, The Flood, The First Strike, Ghosts of Onyx, Contact Harvest)

What other game could beat that? Call of Duty? GTA? Rainbow Six? *** that! If there was an award for best video game storyline, the Halo series would take it no questions asked.

No I said the Halo trilogy. With that in mind, Halo 3 does have one of the better storylines. As epic as Mass Effect is, it doesn't compare to Halo.

Im with Timber on this one...even though I really enjoyed the Halo trilogy and the books (Yes, i read them all), Mass Effect and its prequel book are better (remember...this an opinionated topic...respect it)....I also enjoyed the following games (story wise) Grand Theft Auto IV, Tales of Symphonia, Golden Sun, Golden Sun: The Lost Age, God of War, Bioshock, and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem...to name a few

I found the story is Halo dull, so I skipped Halo 2.  I tried to catch-up in Halo 3, but still couldn't care.  The campaign mode in the Halo series sucks hard (imo).

The game that sucked me in the most with it's story is still Final Fantasy IX.  I hear the whole Warcraft storyline is pretty deep too, but I never followed it.

I used to be into stories in games, but these days I don't care.  However, if the story is half way interesting, I'll go for it.  Phoenix Wright and GTA hooks me, but the rest, I don't care.  RPG's are all the same.  Save the world from extinction!  Whatever.  I just want to play the game.

I loved the audio tapes, one of my favourite parts of the game. Never got around to finding all of them though.

I think Gears has potential ot have an amazing story, but there was too much left out in the first one. Hopefully they'll fill in a lot in the second one.

Gears of War had nothing going for it in terms of storyline. It starts off with Fenix in jail and bam you are off to kill Locust with some mysterious lady that has a couple lines at the end. Gears of War 2 could probably improve on that, but I want to see Fenix's trial, I mean, if he was put on trial it was definately for something right?

Re: Storyline In Video Games For Today & Tomorrow.
There are so many video game universes that have great story lines.  Limiting to the Xbox 360 specifically:

- BioShock
- Mass Effect
- The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Halo 3's story is average on its own, but as a full trilogy, it's great.  Overall though, I found Halo 3's Campaign to be the lesser of the trilogy in all respects.

Aside from Halo being an amazing trilogy, I forgot another game series:

The Metal Gear Series. Very well done (especially with all of the ties with the REAL cold war in Metal Gear Solid 3...)
