Why all the hate to the U.S. and MLS?
Sorry I posted this in EURO's forums...I really don't understand it...but before I get started I'm an American Resident, I was born in Nicaragua but where Futbol is not the dominant sport, Baseball actually is...I moved to the U.S. when I was 6...My father is from Spain, Mother from Nicaragua, and I live in the U.S.A. and I always been a huge fan of Futbol ironically I played Hockey for 13 years though...But I noticed when it comes to U.S. Soccer theres a lot of hatred towards it from our friends accross the pond...They sometimes make it seem like we're insignificant in the sport...which saddens me...becuase I mean...I love European football...The English Premiere League is my favorite next to my native country's Spanish Liga...I have season tickets to the MLS San Jose Earthquakes here in California cause I can't live without Soccer period...My childhood idols consist of an African American (Michael Jordan), a Russian (Sergei Federov), a Englishman (David Beckham), and an American (Brian McBride)...I'm a huge fan of Ronaldinho, C. Ronaldo, and Mexican Futbol star Guardado...I mean I guess I love the sport as whole...During the World Cup i don't know who to root for sometimes, Spain? USA? England? Brasil? I don't know I love and appreciate them all...sometimes I feel like I like the sport differently than others do and maybe I've strayed from my point but I mean are we (U.S. Soccer) that insignificant to the rest of the world? It saddens me because we sorta look up to you Europeans in a sense when it comes to the sport...yet we're always put down...I dont see our League getting anywhere as near as big as the English Premiere League is in England or the Spanish League in Spain but the MLS is growing...It's all we got here in the U.S., why do you Europeans bash it and not encourage us and root us on to help get make our league bigger? I'd like to hear some Europeans take on this...Thanks for reading...

No i'm not Portuguese, I'm Nicaraguan and Spanish...but I love the Portuguese team...Huge fan of Ronaldo and Deco...but I don't really think you read my post...Respect has nothing to do with what I am talking about...For I don't believe that we (U.S.) aren't really asking for respect, but the encouragement of the world...

I understand what you mean...and I believe what you say is true...the U.S. team does have to prove itself...don't think the world should talk bad about the U.S. when they are trying to make the sport bigger here...It's gotta start somewhere right?

I agree with you but the thing is that people in the us dont take football serious, in the us they want to play football(NFL) and other sports

Re: Why all the hate to the U.S. and MLS?

I hear ya when it comes to the MLS. Some people talk like it's the worst soccer on the planet, but really, it's not even close. No one bashes the Irish league, A-league (Australia), League Championship, Austrian Bundesliga, etc., etc.. Maybe because it's a North American league, some people automatically hate it. Like it's fun to bash the MLS just because of it's geographic location.

I love watching European football (Bundesliga is my fav over there, followed by the Prem, Serie-A, and La Liga), but the MLS is what we have over here, so I acutally try to enjoy. And guess what...I ended-up ACTUALLY enjoying it! ***, I even love watching USL-1 on FSC, just because it's North American!

Anyway, if you ever want to play some MLS games in FIFA online, give me a shout. HUGE Toronto FC fan over here!

Re: Why all the hate to the U.S. and MLS?
Well the MLS is still a pretty new league. Its gonna take some time for the league to get some respect or recognotion. The MLS already has a tournament with the Mexican teams, Super Liga, which will help this league alot! Also Alot of European teams have pre-season games with the MLS teams as well. People bash it cuz the MLS gets old players that play in Europe but I think this is good for the league, alot of young players can learn from these players. BTW I also watch MLS games as well when they are being broadcast on ESPN, Fox Sports, and Telefutra. My team is the L.A. Galaxy. As far as the U.S. National Team, I think they are going in the right direction. They just beat Poland like 3-0 at Poland! Don't be surprised if they beat England, Spain, and Argentina in their following friendly games. I support the U.S. and Mexico national teams.

I'm a big fan of the MLS but I don't like the way that the USA has manipulated the way football works - they do it in every other sport that they have, they use drafts and you can't 'buy' players. It sucks because that's never been the way of football and they're the only league in the world that does that. In order for the MLS to gain more popularity, it needs to become more football and less American.

Re: Why all the hate to the U.S. and MLS?
The MLS is like the way it is for a reason. In order for the league to grow, the teams and rosters have to dealt with differently than in Europe. In North America it's colleges and universities that provide most of the players, because they have a system already in place. The preceding draft lets all the teams in the league get a fair shot at getting decent  players. This, coupled with the salary cap keeps the league running  at parity, and avoids "uber-team" scenarios which is what happens in Europe.

I won't be surprised if in 10 years or so when the league is on better footing that they do away with or substantially raise the cap, and maybe even add promotion /  relegation with the USL-1. That would be awesome, but we'll have to wait and see.

MLS does sux, its a place to go if you cant play anywhere else, its a development league basically, like European basketball is to the NBA. I watched Toronto play Aston Villa. It was like I was watching an And 1 or Harlem Gobetrotter game. Aston Villa was just playing wit Toronto, and they even let TO get a goal. The MLS is nothing more than a development league.

Buckie, lighten-up. Don't forget to insult all the Aussies who watch A-league, and the Swedes, Belgians, etc. etc. They love their lesser leagues, too.

BTW, you say you're Canadian, but I don't see any hockey games on your recently played list! FOR SHAME!!!

Re: Why all the hate to the U.S. and MLS?

I agree about the whole Salary Cap thing...I think it should substantaly be raised...I don't like the whole buying players but because then it just becomes a league where whoever has the money controls the league and that's what happens in Europe...You'll have like 3 or 4 teams that you know every year will win the Cup...that's retarded in my opinion...but they should have some system that will allow them to acquire foreign players for whatever the price...I dunno...we just need to make our league grow and support it as much as we can...

I'm going to the San Jose Earthquakes game where they will take on the former Quakes the Houston Dynamo...I'm way excited to support my home team! I hope our league continues to grow...

Have fun, man! I haven't made it down to Toronto yet this year, but the wife and I are trying to get to the Allstar game in July. As well, we might to to hit the CONCACAF Champs League qualifier against Montreal a few days before. If we could do both matches, awesome, but I'll be happy if I can see at least one.
I haven't seen any Quakes games on tv, but I heard they filled-up the Oakland Collesium pretty much. That's awesome.

Awesome I actually hear Toronto FC's following is huge!!! I can't wait till they come down it'll be a great atmosphere...2 new teams going at it...(Well SJ isn't really new they just came back...) Yea the Chicago Fire game was pretty packed it was nice...Over 23,000 People attended I believe which is more than a San Jose Sharks game...but then again the SharkTank only holds about 20,000...but cool nonetheless...I'm trying to get tickets to the Cup Final in L.A...I also can't wait till Seattle breaks into the league next year!

I guess being 2nd in the current CONCACAF standings doesn't mean anything?...We are still World Cup Qualifying team...we may have not won a World Cup but im sure most would agree that in 2002 World Cup the world definately saw the U.S. as what you call a "decent" team as we did beat Portugal 3-2 who skeptics believe would take the cup and beat Mexico 2-0(Who had beat Croatia and tied Italy)....And in the end we gave Germany a run for its money...Entering the tournament we were ranked 12th in the world...(A Rank which currently England is at)...So don't come here with your "You gotta prove it to the world" argument cause we already have...Oh and not to mention...We held 4th place in the FIFA World Rankings just prior to the World Cup in 2006...Just a tidbit for you...4th place on the FIFA World Rankings is the highest England has ever been...how bout that eh? Don't believe me, check FIFA.com....Oh and we just beat Poland 2-1... Take your frail argument elsewhere...

The U.S. was owned Italy. The refs stole a win from us there. But we were definetly overrated at #4. I'm still pissed we lost to Ghana.

FIFA rankings are misleading, USA were up there because they earned points by playing very poor teams in their region.

Most Americans degrade the MLS and don't take it seriously. You have to get the country to take the MLS seriously before the rest of the world will.

problem is americans dont accept the fact that their league is new... there are people here that rate the MLS in the top 10/15 leagues in the world and then bring up the japanese league.... in taht too haha. People think the MLS is the 4th best league in the americas when its not, and u try to tell them hey this league is 10 years old these other leagues are 100+ and there like na we have adidas uniforms they are better

people then talk about big name signings like Henry, BEcks, w/e aging euro start is here to gain this league exposure...

I say with the 5-6 million they are paying becham a year... u could get 20-30 african, south american B list players that would make the league fun to watch and alot more competitve than having 1 team with dave beckham and that is the only team that plays to sell out crowds

and before u say I dont know about the MLS ... I live Ct but go to school in NY and go to every NY RB game I  can and if a team is playing the Revolution I like then I sometimes take the drive there too

toronto isnt exactly in the U.S now is it....

problem also is stadiums are WAY WAY WAY TOO BIG !!!

why have a football stadium that seats 60,000 people that the giants play that doesnt have real grass and is too small for soccer..... 10,000 people show up and it looks empty... which is whats happening at NY.... its harder to get into the game and alot of times like yesterday I wish I just stayd at home and watched it on tv :(

when the RBs and other teams start playing in their own stadiums then things will change... its hard to play at home if no one shows up... but if u have a stadium full of people supporting u its alot easier to win ask Korea how they got so far at the WC in 2002
