I've  never played a game or watched a movie that scares me as much as this one does.  I'm not sure I even want to play the sequel, I don't know if I have what  it takes. I'm now in the department store, chapter 5, and I can't believe how geniunely scary it is. I was exploring some  room about half way through when suddenly a voice on my surround sound says "you're dead".  Then when the manniquins that start surrounding you!!!!!! WTF???? I can't take this anymore.

I do hate them but I can play them but they take me forever since I go real slow and save like every 2 minutes, pause it and leave the room then come back to it and avoid playing them at night. I've played few scary games like Doom 3 and Resident Evil type games.

You might like it then, but you will hate it... But no need to save every 2 minutes... The game has a decent checkpoint system, and they are nicely placed... I think I only saved like twice in the whole game.

Oh, and playing during the day is all well and good, but sometimes this game is so dark, that unless you turn up the TV's brightness, you may need to play at night...

Do you mean when you're walking then you don't know when you're going to be attacked until it's too late and a person starts attacking you from behind? That would make me jump and let out a bit of a "aaarrrggghhh" followed by a bit of cursing, and a rapid heart beat increase lol.

Turns out mannequins are in the second one too (I played this one after playing the new one - in fact that's why I did)... But yeah, the first time you come across those mannequins , creepy to the max!

That's strange, I'm on I believe Chapter 6 and I don't even recall this part. This game has made me jump a few times though!

That's strange, I'm on I believe Chapter 6 and I don't even recall this part. This game has made me jump a few times though!

Maybe it only happens if you open the locker. As I recall it was just after a door you had to open and perhaps in a stairwell that you had to go down?

The whole reason I picked this game up was due to a mention in one of those "Scariest Games of All Time" threads.  Huge RE and SH fan and never heard of Condemned until that point.  Fantastic game!  Chapter 9 really got to me - playing the other night in the dark and a fly landed on my leg.  Changed my shorts and went on to finish.

Never reali found the game to be too scary, was a good game tho, enjoy'd it loads...should reali get the second one! haven't played that yet!!!

It gave me some cheap scares as well.. I can definetly say thought, things got trippy towards the end..

I was attracted to this game by the discussions of "scariness" over in the Bioshock forum. Bioshock still seems a little scarier to me, probably because I played it first and had no idea what to expect when I played it.  When I played Condemned, I was fully expecting scariness.  So, of course, that lessened its scary impact on me.  Both games are excellent, and quite similar with respect to the dark, creepy, ever-present danger and flickering lights atmosphere.

I work 2nd shift, so I played the entire game at night.  There were times where I would see the next dark room I had to go into and would think "I really don't want to go in there".  This game kept me on edge the whole time.  The part of the game in the Farmhouse, I just wanted it to be over.  All the sounds, the creepy writing on the wall, was almost too much.  I can't believe this was a launch game.

Is this one scarier than the second 1?

this one is scaryiest as you are fearful of not knowing why all the hobos have gone crazy whether it's a goverment thing or if theres just simply a load of uncomfy box's to sleep in which cuase's you not to really know what the main thing your against is. this get's even more scary with how they are all getting more freaky and phsycotic. the secound game is not as scary as it takes all the main questions that made criminal origins scary chucke them in the bin then just made a cheesy sci fi plot for 2. it reveals it all in the first level really if you finesh the game wanting to go back to see if theres anything that can make the story fit into place to know the whole view then you most likley were not watching or listening.

in criminal origins if 2 haden't come out i would play it back to see if there was anything that could make the grandscheme obvious for more points about why the sequel is not good compared to the original seek yahtzee's help

To get the full experience you have to play with all the LIGHTS OFF and turn the sound up.  Dont watch any youtube spoilers and just play the game. 

Resident evil is one of my favorite series and it has nothing on this game.

i recomned skullcandy headphones if you get a pauir that work well for your gamne then it makes it 10 times more scary the first condmned was improved tenfold with my lowrider skullcandys at 40 volume in headphones (i limit it to 15- 20 from tv when talking on mic so they can only just hear it when it's at 40 you can hear it across the room form hte headphones)

plus darkness and maybe a friend sleeping over whos alsleep for you to scare the *** out of by putting them on him when you get bored or dare to leave the back of the sofa
