So here's the thing. When I search for a match, there are none. Ever. I'm not even talking about custom matches. I'm talking about Quick Matches. Is this game seriously telling me that there is no one playing multiplayer (unranked or ranked) at any given time, or is there some issue on my end?

I mean, I pretty much purchased this game so I could play against people on XBL, and now I feel my 5 dollars could have been better spent...

yeah the community is dead.....most XBLA games have a good community for a week tops.....once everyone gets the multiplayer achievements, they move on to the next game.  sorry bro that is just how it is.
