Roogoo Isn't Doing Too Well
Looking at this week's XBL arcade purchases (courtesy of Major Nelson)...

Top Arcade Titles (Full Versions)
1 Aces of the Galaxy
2 Penny Arcade Episode 1
3 UNO
4 DOOM
5 Buku Sudoku
6 Warlords
7 N+
8 Worms
9 Marble Blast Ultra
10 Bomberman LIVE

Roogoo didn't even make the top ten... ahead of game that have been on there for ages like Marble Blast Ultra (no offense, as that's a great game, too) and Aces of the Galaxy, whose gameplay to me was fairly simple but cluttered with unneccessary graphic effects.  I figured with the lack of activity in this forum and the dearth of multiplayer matches available, it wouldn't be great... but I didn't expect this.

Oh well... hats off to the devs anyways... some of us really dig this game and have been trying to get people to play it.

Aww, I dig the Roogoo.  ...even bought the picture pack.

And it's been getting pretty good reviews, from what I've seen.  I wonder what the problem is.

My guess that the the trial game, while giving players a basic feel for the game, does nothing to display the challenges that occur as the game goes on.  A game with cutesy graphics that is viewed as "too easy" can be easily overlooked... I mean, did anyone actually buy Bliss Island?

The individual responsible for the demo should be fired.

Yes, FIRED.

I kinda hope its the same guy who was lead designer and programmer - at least he won't be able to blame someone else for destroying all his hard work and effort.

Hi everyone..

This is my fault.. on the demo. The game designer..

Trust me--I feel your pain--the most. It's hard to find the right balance-and the XBLA crowd is def more hard-core.

Going to fix some things..
Leaderboards
and a few other very important items.

Thanks!

I don't know what happened either.  I had a blast and played the heck out of it.  I still need to finish the last few puzzles.  So for what it's worth, I think it's a great game.

Maybe there should have been just a single multiplayer level for people to experience.  But I know the demo problem.  Offer too much and no one has a need to buy the demo, offer too little and folks can't get a good idea of the over all game.

To me the demo was fine.  I got a sense of the game, how it played.  It seemed to be pretty representetive of the overall game.

The real problem with the popularity of this game is the over saturation of puzzle games on XBLA.  It seems like every other week there is another Tetris clone put on the service and I think it's gotten to the point where people don't even bother downloading the demos.  They see "puzzle" in the description and because of crap like Boogie Bunnies and Bliss Island, they immediatly decide "nope"

Honestly if I hadn't read the glowing reviews on IGN and Gamespot, I wouldn't even of download the demo.  And I'm glad I did becuase I think the game is unique.

There was a boost in downloads last week.. almost double..

Word of mouth is a big help--So make sure and tell everyone.

****We will have some new updates this week or next

Count me in as one who caught it via word of mouth. I totally missed the releases that week but caught some game play video on 360fanboy and gave it a try. Liked it almost immediately. So spread the word.

Good to hear things are on the upswing and that it isn't getting lost in the shuffle.

Re: Roogoo Isn't Doing Too Well
I skipped it at first due to the demo, and I LOVE puzzle games. Now I bought it and like it pretty well, though my complaint was that I went all the way through the game and was to 200 on the leaderboard two hours after I got it. Too short. Now I think it has replayability trying to get under the time limit on each level and all, but I wish there were more. Haven't tried multi yet as there has been no one on every time I tried. :(
Peace love and Xbox

Also, Major Nelsons list will be compiled a couple of days later and (i think) doesn't include free titles so Roogoo is really at 14.

Major's list for the 9th June looks nothing like my list of the 17th June? Funny that

Re: Roogoo Isn't Doing Too Well
Obviously not wanting to start some sort of silly flame war against MN's lists - but there are reasons why the list wouldnt be the same for example this data is arrived at via UU leaderboards data over a Sat-Fri period (MN uses Tue-Mon).

It's also worth pointing out that it doesn't take a lot of sales to shift from 50th to 10th on the arcade lists - we are not talking huge numbers here.

Another reason for differences is the large number of games that are offered for free in various locations or with special activation codes. MN does not track these accurately (if at all), examples are yaris, undertow, carcasonne, BBR, pacman etc.

I would be interested to know if my roogoo number is close to the real number that the developer has.

And, back on topic, I really hope Roogoo picks up a lot more as its a super little game.

Why didnt you just tell him you get your numbers from vgchartz.com?

Also MN gets his numbers from purchased versions.  And you can bet Microsoft can tell when something is purchased with points or a code.

Roogoo is one of the best games available in XBL.  PacMan CE being the number one.
