Burnout Revenge FAQ

Burnout Revenge FAQ

By Beagles

Revenge is Sweet

Your wheels are a weapon and your aggression is a measure of success. Plough through downtown traffic and pulverize any rival who stands between you and the finish line. Use the traffic, use the roads, and use all your Takedown prowess to rise up the ranks and teach your rivals a crushing lesson in the sweet art of vengeance. It’s about winning. It’s about revenge.

Burnout is back in the 4th instalment for the Xbox. This time it’s bigger – new cars, more tracks, and a load of new explosions waiting to happen. It features an intense single player mode where you raise your ranks to compete against tougher opponents, win faster cars, and compete in new courses. It also features new gameplay abilities such as traffic checking and vertical takedowns. When you’re ready for the test, go online and race the world’s top Revenge racers for honour and glory.

Ratings

After each event, you will be given a rating. There are an assortment of rankings that depend on your performance and medal. Rankings can give your rep a 1-5 boost. Receiving a medal will either make it go up, down, or stay the same.

Medals

Gold – Boosts your rating up a level

Silver – Makes your rating stay the same

Bronze – Lowers your rating a level

Ratings

Perfect – 5 Stars (only possible with an awesome rating + a gold medal)

Awesome – 4 Stars

Great – 3 Stars

Good – 2 Stars

Ok – 1 Star

So for example, if I get a Great rating, and a gold medal, my rating will go up to Awesome. If I get a Great rating and a bronze medal, my rating will go down to Good.

Racing Locations

Angel Valley

Central Route

Eastern Bay

Eternal City

Lone Peak

Motor City

Sunshine Keys

White Mountain

Signature Takedowns

Throughout each area there are multiple areas where if you get a takedown you will get a “signature takedown”. These takedowns are usually in key locations such as storage areas, train tracks, cliffs, etc. You need these to get 100% completion. When in World Tour, check the Signature Takedown folder in each area to see what areas you have to hit. After doing this, it’s rather easy getting most of them (even in one race sometimes). Note: You do not need to get 24/24 for 100% (see more info below)

Challenge Sheets

Challenge sheets are objectives in Racing Locations that you must perform to unlock special cars. The first time you look at a challenge sheet, it may be a little intimidating. However, throughout the game, you will gradually start to complete these objectives, and it won’t be long before you only need a few in each area. Here is a breakdown of the challenges:

Paybacks – In the later levels you will get crashbreakers in races and road rages, which are used to blow up passing rivals when you crash. These are paybacks. To score double, triple or 4-way paybacks, “crashbreak” the right number of opponents with one crashbreaker (so double is 2, triple is 3, and 4-way is 4)
Win a Race without CrashingPretty straightforward. Don’t crash and win the race and you will receive this award. This is easily done in the earlier levels due to the lower number of laps in the race.

Vertical Takedowns – To achieve a vertical takedown, land on an opponent’s car. There really is no way to easily do this, but throughout the game you will probably achieve these.

Takedown the Special Car – In each race, there will be an odd looking car, whether it’s an Indy car or a hot rod. Simply take this car down to win this award.

Check X Cars – In traffic attack, simply check the X number of cars in that racing area. A message will pop up when you have checked the right amount.

High Score X – In crash mode, simply cause X damage in an event in that racing location to win this award. It’s obviously easier at events that require a high number of damage for a gold medal.

X Revenge Takedowns – In race mode, simply get revenge on X number of rivals. Only problem is letting them take you down first.

Blow Up X Vehicles – Performed in crash mode - To blow up a vehicle, simply use your crashbreaker. To blow up a large amount of vehicles, you should use a vehicle with a large crashbreaker force such as the Mobile Diner to cover a larger amount of land. You should also attempt this objective in an event with a large number of cars.

The Burnout

Many people ask how to do this boost start, since it can be a deciding factor for most of the race. It is performed at the starting line, and requires practise and careful timing which can lead to a lot of frustration. This is a short step by step guide to the burnout:

1. Tap the R trigger

2. Let go of the R Trigger and tap the L trigger

3. Let go of the L trigger after holding the R trigger once again. (Your tires should be spinning now)

4. Hold the R trigger until the END of the 1 in the 3, 2, 1 countdown and then QUICKLY release R and then push and hold it again. Hold A just in case.

You should get a boost start and have an advantage on your opponents.

If you couldn't’t understand the above, here’s another way of putting it:

Gas-Brake-Gas-let go at the end of the countdown-Gas again.

If you’re still having trouble, ask another racer to guide you at the beginning of the race, as they can lead you real time step by step using the Xbox Live Mic.

Crashbreaker 100% for Factor 10 Cars

This can be found accidentally quite easily, but here it is anyway.

Pressing the B button rapidly can get pretty tiring when using a high crashbreaker vehicle. Here is a little trick for easily getting a 100% explosion:

Crash into an intersection like you normally would. Wait for the % to get around 80 – 90% and hold impact time. Keep holding it until it reaches 100% so you can perform a crashbreaker.  When it does reach, the impact time will make the % go down really slow, allowing you to easily get back up to 100% for the big explosion. You can also use this to gain an extra 5 seconds or so to allow extra cars to crash and still get a huge explosion. This is a great tip to get through the harder crash events.

Unlocking 100% without fully completing the game

Getting all the signature takedowns and completing all the challenge sheets aren’t the easiest things to do. It can be quite time consuming to get in the right situation to achieve these awards. This may cause you to forget about even trying to win the Revenge Racer (see below). However, it is proven that you do NOT need to get every single thing, but just enough to make the game give you a 100%.  This means that you can actually complete 99.6% of the game and the game will round up to 100% for you.

Unlocking the Special Cars

If you want to stand a change in unrestricted games online, you better have some of these top cars:

Revenge Racer – 100% completion

Black Elite Racer – Get to the Elite rank in World tour
Logitech World Racer – Beat the last Grand Prix in Level 10 in World Tour

Low Rider – Complete Angel Valley Challenge Sheet

Criterion GT Racer – Complete Central Route Challenge Sheet

Nixon Special (Indy Car) – Complete Eastern Bay Challenge Sheet

Hot Rod – Complete Lone Peak Challenge Sheet
Euro Classic LM – Complete Eternal City Challenge Sheet
Custom Classic – Complete Sunshine Keys Challenge Sheet

Etnies Racer – Complete Motor City Challenge Sheet
EA Racer GT – Complete White Mountain Challenge Sheet

Hidden Cars

EA put a couple of secret cars into the game that are only accessible if you have the right game saves BEFORE you make a profile:

Dominator Assassin – Have a Burnout 3 Save

Madden Van – Have a Madden NFL 2006 Save

*Tips & Tricks*

Although this game is a racing game and is pretty straightforward, there are a couple of things that you should and shouldn't’t do. I’m going to start off with the online portion of the game since it can be a little confusing.

Online

• A very important thing to NOT do is to join an unrestricted game, unless if you have a few of the special cars mentioned above. An unrestricted game has a – under the level column. This means that you can use any car that you have unlocked in the single player portion of the game. People online playing in these rooms WILL have the best cars (unless of course they just wandered in there without a clue) and you WILL have no chance of winning unless if you have a 202 mph or higher. In this mode, you do not get any free cars. You do not get a basic car of the highest restricted level. You get what you have, and if you don’t play single player, you are going to lose. This brings me to my next point…

• If you really want to win or have an even playing field, make sure you only join a game with a restriction level that you have all the cars in. This means don’t join a level 8 game if you only have all the level 6 cars. Although yes, you will get a level 8 car, it is usually not as good in the handling department, as well as the weight. Although you will not be at a complete disadvantage because speed is usually the same.

• Another thing with joining games with restrictions is make sure you have cars in THAT restriction. What I mean is, if you unlocked a special car (which is 209mph), and your next best car is 175mph, don’t join a game with restrictions such as 190mph. You will not be able to use your special car, and will be forced to use either the 175mph car, or the basic 190mph.

• One last thing with the restrictions of the cars. In Burnout Revenge, the car on the farthest right does NOT mean that it is the fastest. Sometimes the basic car in that restriction is farther left. This is because the cars are grouped together by their class, not their speed. So all the Factories are together, all the Customs are together, etc. So if the farthest car on the right is a factory, and the basic car in that class is a custom (assuming you joined a game with a higher restriction than yours), you’re going to have to search through your list (not to mention in less than 20 seconds) just to find it. This is another reason to just join or makes games with cars in your restriction. If you don’t mind losing, disregard the above, but if you want a fair race, be sure to know it.

• At the beginning of the race, people in the back can get easy takedowns on the people in front. There are several ways to deal with this:

-Slow down and let them pass (or brake when they’re about to hit you)

-Go in and out of obstacles to get them to crash. Another good thing to do is to go head on with an oncoming car, and turn at the last second to make the driver behind you crash. This also works during the race as well.

-Go straight and take a chance.

• Cars behind 1st will get more boost and will get it quicker giving them a chance to catch up. Be aware of this if you’re in 1st, because that guy 500ft behind you in second will be up your tailpipe rather quickly. That’s when you have to do the above tip.

• If you’re behind 1st and can’t seem to catch up, remember, this is a racing game. Cutting corners sharply still splits time of your lap. This is something people tend to forget with Burnout’s fast paced gameplay. It’s still a racing game.

• Not all “short-cuts” are quicker. Some are actually long-cuts. This can be key to keeping up with people in front of you.

• Don’t quit. This is for a couple of reasons:

- Other people might be depending on you to make someone else come in last. If you quit, you may give someone the win.

- You lose (I believe) 500 ELO off of your rank. If you have to go answer the door, let your car sit. It’s better than losing a couple races worth of points.

• Of you spin out but don’t crash, boost straight into the wall and crash. Spinning out is the worst thing possible in this game, because you are not gaining any ground (like when you spawn after crashing), and it is really hard to get back to driving the right way (the car seems to just keep spinning).

So if you spin out, just go take yourself out

• Don’t be a sore loser. Sometimes this game screws up and glitches (going through walls, invisible racers), but that is not the winner’s fault. The winner cannot camp or hog weapons, he has an equal chance like you. So don’t complain and just say good game.

Now onto single player

Races

• Always try to get a few takedowns right off the bat, so if you crash on the last lap, you’re not out of the race.

• Remember that the AI will always be near you; whether you’re ahead or behind, they will never be too far away (due to the elastic AI).

• Try not crash at the end for the above reason. You can have a perfect race and crash at the end and lose. Make sure you’re careful.

Road Rage

• After a few takedowns, you will get a time extension. Make sure you know how often you get these.

• After a few time extensions, slow it down. It is generally easy after the first 7 or so takedowns. The only problem is totalling your car. So take it nice and slow. If you think you’re going to take a risk trying to takedown a rival, don’t do it.

• If you’re having a problem crashing right after a takedown, try going into options (from the menu) and turning “crash cam” off. This will stop the whole rival crash sequence allowing you to keep going.

Traffic Checking

• Always try to check cars into oncoming traffic. If you make a nice clean shot, you will get a huge time extension.

• Do a lap to get multipliers. Lap 2 you get 2x damage, Lap 3 you get 3x damage, etc.

• When in a dead zone, make sure you boost through it and get back onto a road.

Burning Lap/Preview

• Know the track. Take shortcuts and make nice turns to maximize your chances at getting gold.

• In Preview, you can generally crash once, and still get gold. However, in a few Burning Laps, perfection is required.

Grand Prix

• Be aware of how many more races you have to go. Don’t just take 2nd thinking the tournament is over and then find out you need to get 1st on the next race to win.

• Be aware of your rating. It carries over from race to race. That means you can do great in the first two, but then slack off in the last and lose your awesome rating, causing you to do the whole GP over again.

Crash

• Crash is a little different this time around. It requires you to use your crashbreaker to get multipliers instead of the icons from BO3.

• Try to pile up as many cars around you as possible and then use your crashbreaker. You also want to get as many cars as possible before the target car crashes for maximum scores.

• Sometimes a car will be too fast or too slow getting to the intersection causing you to miss everything. Adapt to the situation.

• Running over items gives you a small bonus.

*Closing Note*

This is a great game that can be played competitive and for fun. The only way to get better online is to keep practising and seeing what higher ranked players do. Play for fun, and play to win.

One more thing that should be mentioned:

This game is somewhat XBL Aware. It seems when you sign on, it records your single player stats onto XBL. If you go to the stats page, you can find leaderboards for every track as well as road rage events and traffic checking. Keep this in mind if you want to see how you do against the rest of the world.

Re: Burnout Revenge FAQ
That's very helpful thanks.  Just one more question: I've been to Best Buy, Circuit City, and Gamestop, but none of them seem to have the cars mentioned online.  They all have the Xbox360 car and BR Theme.  Any suggestions?

Re: Burnout Revenge FAQ

I am trying to do the instant Boost you said:

The probem is it doesn't say "3,2,1" it says "Get Ready" then "Go".  Is this based on the 360 version of the game?

You should get a boost start and have an advantage on your opponents.

If you couldn't’t understand the above, here’s another way of putting it:

Gas-Brake-Gas-let go at the end of the countdown-Gas again.

Re: Burnout Revenge FAQ

It should say 3-2-1. This was made for the original Xbox. What youre describing is for crash mode or something. There should definately be a countdown.

For the Best Buy cars and such: I have no idea. I dont think this is in Canada, and I dont have a MU either. You should ask people if you actually see the car online.

you can't get a jump start in single player world tour... just gives you a rolling start w/ get ready, go... online gives you the countdown and the abilty to rev up before the start because your car is sitting still, both versions of the game should be identical in this respect.
