A Message from Treyarch

JD 2020 06-30-2008, 9:37 PM
Hi everybody,

My name is JD, and I'm the Community Manager here at Treyarch Studios. I'm writing to you on behalf of my colleagues here at Treyarch.

Over the weekend, we learned that some disparaging comments were made by an Activision rep at a recent Call of Duty: World at War press event. We want to let everyone know that we found those remarks offensive, and they do not in any way represent the feelings of any developer at this studio or at Activision. We hold all of our peers in the development community in the highest regard. We have nothing but respect for the guys and gals at Gearbox.

We offer our sincerest apologies to anybody who was offended.

Kindly,
Treyarch dev team

Thanks for the notice, JD. A lot of BIA fans were upset when we heard/saw that, so I'm glad that most of you guys at Treyarch don't think that BIA is a crappy game and that Gearbox is a bad studio.

No news yet, be sure to head over to the CoD3 forum for updates on that. Don't want to bring this one off-topic.

Thanks!

Thanks for the apology, man.  It's sincerely appreciated.  However, I do have one question that I'm hoping you might be able to shed a little light on, both for myself and the countless Brothers in Arms fans out there: WTF is that fat DANGARDS problem?

Is his DANG, like, really small?  What a DANG.

Oh well, I can only assume that ol' Noah Heller must really love giving Gearbox and ***'s Highway DANGLOADS of free publicity, eh?

Nicely put. I bet this guy played Hill 30 and tried to run and gun halo style and got his ars handed to him and he has been bitter ever sense. I mean how does this guy still have a job? Yes I am angry here but far more offended by this disrespectful guy's remarks. I want an apology from him!

These are the type of people who don't deserve to have a job in the industry.  They come out and open there mouth then it comes in bite them back in the long run.  Treyach has always been second to Infinity Ward when it comes to making COD games.  Why do people play COD4 so much?  Hmmm.    Even with an apology sent to Gearbox does not cut to the fact that words have been said.  Treyarch has lost my respect when it comes to making an game including WWII shooters.  Well, I know what I am buying this year (hint: it does not start with COD).  What makes me laugh even more about this post is that the comment was supposedly by an Activision rep eventhough the person who made the comment said he was a Senior Producer.

Glad to see some official response and apology. But your guy(s) should have known better. Try to be like Gearbox, please inject some innovations into games. Let's see when you people actually start making real games, not just picking up side projects (like CoD3 and other ports). Truly disgusted.

Now that's professional. I wasn't offended, but I was kinda baffled at the first glimpse of Kotaku's little "make is sound worse than it is" post. So, yeah -- good luck to Gearbox and Treyarch. I'm looking forward to some WWII. I'm not sick of them, yet!

I don't understand why someone at your studio would say these things in the first place.
IMHO the only reason why the Call of Duty series is good, is because of COD4: Modern Warfare, and you guys didn't work on that :(

WW2 games are sooooo 10 years ago... I  have never played BIA just because it's WWII, and I will definitely not be trying COD5 because of those comments made earlier, and the fact that it is another boring WWII game.

I don't think a generic apology via forums makes up for disrespectful trash talking in an interview.

I've been friends with Noah since he worked at Surreal on the Suffering games (and This Is Vegas for the first half of development).

The last couple of weeks before that interview, he'd been flying to Europe and back to the US 3 or 4 times in a row. I'd personally blame this on lack of sleep, hefty levels of jet lag - and a bit of smack talk.

He's honestly not a bad guy... and this was totally out of character for him (especially in an interview setting).

OK so you know this guy personally and you claim it is out of character for him to say such things then why hasn't he been over here to apologize. We as people make mistakes on a daily basis and for this guy to make comments as he did and he not apologize says a whole lot about his true character. I saw the video and its not like he had a little hick up, he made some pretty obvious negative remarks about the game(which he hasn't played) and the studio producing it.

Spec Tec, I appreciate you sticking up for your friend but if you want to really help the situation and appease the die hard fans like myself, tell your buddy to man up and face the music!

Fair enough.  Lord knows I get bitchy as soon as I walk into the airport, not to even mention the jet lag part.  But ya know, I think what everyone's wondering about is why is it that Noah Heller has to rely upon his surrogates to do his groveling for him?

You see, I was raised not to be a little whiny piece o' poo.  If I mess up, then I man up and admit my mistake.  Why doesn't Noah waddle on over to a computer, log on to www.gearboxsoftware.com, and say, "Hey, I was, like, really sleepy, and when I get sleepy I tend to turn into a blabbering idiot.  Sorry, eh."

Really, would that be so hard?  At the very least, why doesn't ol' JD here, Community Manager for Treyarch, suck it up and post this in the Gearbox Forums?  After all, Gearbox are the people Mr. Heller talked smack about.  Maybe this is just me, but when I talk a bunch of silly *** about someone, a really big part of that whole 'manning-up' thing is apologizing to the people you actually talked about - not random people on the street.

We pretty much posted at the same time there BetidedBoulder. I agree with you, This guy would probably sale crack to his own mother just to make a buck. Ya know the best part about being a man is also the hardest and that is admitting when you screwed up. And know one will remember and fault you for your mistake but they will always remember how you held your head high when you admit a wrong.

JD is a Community Manager for Treyarch. The "D"  in place of his Community User Level should be a pretty good hint that he isn't pulling your leg. This is one of the wonderful things a Community Manager does, he is passing the message on to the various communites. The forums at Xbox.com are one of the larger communities on the interweb and have a vast amount of users that also come from other online communities. By posting the message here it is getting alot more exposure than many of you are thinking. What we should be doing instead of complaining is thanking JD for thinking of us first when he decided to make his post. It is not only a sign of the significance of this forum and it's members, but also a compliment. Let's try to keep that in mind when we respond.

Why are you telling him to "suck it up", he isn't the person who made the comments. Just be happy that he is apoligizing on behalf of what happened when it wasn't his fault, it was some other guy's. i didnt question if the op was from treyarch... just questioning the title of dev team... i would guess more like a public relations position... but maybe its all lumped into one and the custodial engineer is part of the dev team as well
