Based on what IGN said:
"He spoke about Doom and Rage, and how that while both games are based on the company's new id Tech 5 engine, they will look very different from one another. In technical terms, he said that Rage is a 60-hertz game, while Doom is a 30-hertz game. Basically, Doom will run at a lower frame rate on purpose, which means that it can pack more detail in each frame."
I think it's safe to say that we'll be seeing open areas in Doom IV. If you haven't seen the Rage trailer on IGN, take a look. Rage already looks incredible, with huge outdoor environments and perfectly rendered character models. Now they're saying that they're going to have to cut the frame rate in half on purpose just to fit in all the details of Doom IV? Sounds like Doom IV is going to bring id Tech 5 to its knees, and that's an exciting thought. I imagine we'll be seeing some levels that aren't unlike the Icon of Sin level from Doom II. This is going to be epic; a true sequel to the originals.
tears of joy..finaly a doom fan who understands my want and hunger for an epic version of the originals...i like the fact of an open environment because 80% of doom and doom2 and final doom WAS in an open environment..so just because doom3 exhausted the claustrophobic base scene why should they repeat it? keep the tight hallways but all im saying is it would be nice to add some of the doom ''eldritch'' type style of atmosphere..now finaly one that understands of the things i speak.! kudos SOVER1GN
