I love crosswords, and this was almost an instant buy for me, but after playing the demo I've been put off entirely by the appalling controls.
I find the letter entry to be far too slow and clunky... why they didn't add support for the chatpad is beyond me.

Seconded. I don't care what excuses, at either the Konami or Microsoft end, they have regarding why we can't use the letter-input device attached to our controllers to input letters; this is completely unforgivable. Patching it this very instant would not be fast enough. It should never have left the gate like this.
And it doesn't help one bit that the "ring" they did provide for letter entry slowly animates to get from one half of the alphabet to the other. And the shortcut to flip it - pressing both bumpers - takes holding them in to trigger, longer than it usually takes to simply move the cursor to the flip space on the ring! - ZM

Oh, I have one of those, never heard it called a chatpad. Learn something everyday.
Yup - bit of a 'whiff' by MS on this game.
IF it was just a bit chaeper, and IF I could use my chatpad (that mostly just collects dust anyway), this would be a buy. Not that the letter control in the game is horrible, but why would you pass up a chance to tie a game into a peripheral that would make your company more money? How many brutal EyeToy games are there? Well, I guess not too many... but there's a reason for that!
At the stage this game is currently in, I'm really torn as to weather to buy it or not.
Blueline17 wrote:Actually the chatpad does work but now I'm having a problem with it. When I first got the game today the Chatpad worked...did 3 puzzles with it and it worked fine. Came back a few hours later and now I can't get it to work in game. I've no interst in playing this if the pad doesn't work.
What they really should have done is support the chatpad and bundle this with the messenger kit. It'd be a great way to sell more of both, like the way MS includes some arcade games on the memory cards...
Kiska wrote:Just so you guys know. you can use any usb keyboard that is compatible with the 360 and it works fine. Only thing is I can't figure out a way to swtich from across to down without having to hit the blue x button on the controller. I guess because X on the keyboard is a letter you use, while when using a keyboard to navigate the guide or menus, X works as the blue x button on the controller. i dont have a messenger kit, but its a shame if it doesnt support it correctly.

HOWEVER, you will still need to use the Player 1 controller to move around the board. (Except you can use the chat pad's left and right arrows.)
This is how it works for me. Doesn't matter if the controller is wired or wireless. Letter input on the second controller, D-Pad on the 1st controller... Works well if your ambidextrous or not.
HotRodW wrote:Guess I should've read the forum first...instead, I took my wife to BestBuy and bought a chatpad thinking that *surely* any developer with half a brain would have implemented chatpad support on a text-entry game. Too bad for BestBuy, because I'm taking back the chatpad getting my $30 back. (I know..I spent $30 so my wife could play a $10 game...lame).
This is what I was talking about in one of my posts above... what you did isn't lame, I bet a number of people would have bought a $30 periferal for a $10 game - that's why it's crazy that during develoment, no one insisted on chatpad functionality...
I've kinda left this game behind...
Ditto!! I'm also glad I played the demo first before buying. The chatpad is a must for this game!

This works, my wife has it down to tee and she doesn't play that many games.
Stupid that they have not included it on the first controller though. This must be a programing error.
For me, if I start the game using the 2nd controller(with chatpad) I don't need to use the 1st controller D-pad.
