I played this demo last night and I must state before anything else that I was biased towards liking it from the start. Having grown up in many of the neighborhoods where rap and hip hop first originated (during the very time frame it was originating), followed by all the people break dancing on card board boxes every other park you passed - well let's just say I was looking forward to this as it looked like good clean fun.
Sadly I was disappointed. While the music was "ok" for the genre it was supposed to represent, I felt the over-all presentation was slightly off. For example, the developers for some odd reason chose to clutter up the animations (wonderful animations I might add as I too am into cartooning and can appreciate them) with all of the on screen buttons and beatniks. Half the time you're so busy watching for those buttons and beatniks that you simply cannot appreciate the animations or the dancing going on in the background.
I dare say they could have just implemented some manner of flashing / pulsing lights in the background and it would have distracted much less from the combos. As it stood, I felt more like I was that guy who showed up to a dance off too late, got stuck at the back of a very tall crowd and who kept missing all the cool dance moves because he was too busy looking out so that no one stepped on his brand new white Adidas shell tops. I just couldn't enjoy any of the dancing because of the constant puzzle solving with it's relentless assault.
As a puzzle game it's definitely interesting however. It does have some interesting components that make it up. However, I feel this title needs more refinement.
If it was free, I'd definitely download it. But not for 800 points and Bionic Commando looming in the not so distant future...
Well that's my take on it. I'd say a 7/10 for me.
