Long time player, first time poster to this forum. Recently I sent an email to Wideload with questions about HttC, and since this appears to be
the place to discuss the game, I figure this would be helpful to those of you out there who are playing, or might be interested in the game.
My comments are in normal text, while any direct quotes from Wideload are in
italics.1) What are the exact effects of the four shrine spells in Serenity's End?Two spells affect your opponents.
- the "peace" spell (blossom): [Renders opponents unable to attack] When the afflicted players try to punch/attack, they perform a bow animation instead.
- the "drunk" spell (gourd/flask): [Scrambles opponents' controls] Intermittently scrambles your controls for a few seconds, and then scrambles them in a new way for another few seconds, etc.
Two spells affect your own character.
- the "clam vacuum" spell (clam icon): [Attracts clams] Spell sucks all clams within a certain radius to you [the opposite of Stink Curse].
- the "war" spell (sword): [Increases attack power] Multiplies your attack's knockback 4x and clam damage 3x.
2) Chumley's hair...is it a rug, or is it real fur?Only his personal stylist knows for sure. 3) It's obvious that there are 5 character types in the game (one male and one female of each). Is there a clear advantage that each group exhibits over the others? I made some guesses in the original question, and was told I was "pretty much correct":
- Hedwig and Ptolemy do the most damage/knockback.
- Daisy and Santo move the quickest.
- Bean and Crackers have the highest vertical jump.
- Toshiro and Murgatroyd have the longest reach (can hit from further away).
- Moxie and Floyd are average on all categories (NOT CONFIRMED).
Wideload also added the following: "We spent a lot of time trying to balance them so that no one pair would be clearly better than the others. Some may find Hedwig/Ptolemy's slowness frustrating but what they may not know is that their large bodies (with large collision boundaries) tend to suck up more clams than smaller bodies - if Santo and Ptolemy are in the same place and clams are flying, Ptolemy will tend to get more of them."
4) Is there a Wolverine/Rogue thing going on between Toshiro and Murgatroyd? (Fellow sea creatures, only she can't touch him without it hurting, etc.) Wait...ignore that.If Murgatroyd has a thing for any of the other characters, she has not been able to communicate it. As for Toshiro, I doubt he would ever admit to it in public, but he's got a thing for Orcrah. Partly because he's attracted to power, and partly because, like many ocean dwellers, he's got a touch of "blowhole fever."
5) Of all the game modes, Benefactor seems to be the most counter-intuitive. Is there a secret to giving away clams without being gifted at the same time? No, but you can't give clams to the player who gave them to you (or stole them from). So, if you beat up a player and get a lot of clams from him, you've got to give them to someone else. The question that this answer leaves me with is - if I am given a lot of clams from an opponent, can I then turn around and give them to someone else, and get credit?6) Bean - what's the secret to keeping a shiny purple complexion yet platinum blonde hair? Is it in the coffee?Coffee and squats.7) Did the design start out as a game about animals, a game about an election, or a game about beating the poop out of each other (on a platform that lacks such an offering and, in my opinion, desperately needed it)?Mostly the first, with a little bit of the third. The election part came later, when we were trying to come up with an excuse for all that animal animosity.8) What is Floyd's favorite Rush album?Floyd's transistor radio is tuned to a classic rock station that mostly plays singles (though they will occasionally play Non-Stop-Rock- Blocks on holiday weekends and the like). Consequently, Floyd does not think of the ethereal voices that speak to him through his radio as having albums. However, he does find special significance in the eerily high-pitched voice that intones:Invisible airwaves crackle with life
Bright antennae bristle with the energy
Emotional feedback on a timeless wavelength
Bearing a gift beyond price, almost free
["The Spirit of Radio" off the album Permanent Waves. LOL.] 9) If the demand is there, what is planned for downloadable content? There isn't really a plan for DLC right now - if the demand is there, we would probably do something like a lower-cost but standalone expansion. --
