Soulcalibur IV

looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

TheSativaGamer 07-24-2008, 6:31 AM

i found this at gamefaqs.com and it looks like namco as usual is trying to make money off of DLC already http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=940047&topic=44452593  just read the posts to get more info on the DLC.

i dont mind paying for DLC i just dont like when its stuff that should already be included in the game.  im not saying the 1st batch of DLC should be included in particular but i just dont like when certain things are ommitted from the game that should come with it in the first place.

im not shocked and ive told some of you before that namco likes to make money off of DLC.  if any of you have had other namco games then youll know namco likes making money off of DLC.  anyway i just hope this stuff isnt over priced because i dont mind buying it as long as its not over priced.

it also depends on what the content is.  alright fine ill admit it some of the stuff thats in the first DLC package shouldve came with the game.  this is just another reason why yoda and vadar are a big possibility as DLC.  so dont be suprised when you see yoda and vadar as DLC in the near future.

They should do like Rockband 2.

Harmonix wanted 104 different songs in Rockband 2, but due to the time it took them to get the rights for the songs and all the jazz it was too late to include 20 of them on the disc.

So they are going to release them as DLC when the game is released for free. They could have easily just released the 20 songs for DLC and charged their usual rate, and no one would have been the wiser.

Unfortunately, most companies wouldnt have been so generous.

your so right most companies woudnt have been so generous and namco is notorious for making money off of DLC.  like i said unfortunately ill pay for DLC but the content has to be worth it to me.  if its not then im not going to give any game developer extra money for something i dont think is worth it.

Prime example is Ace Combat 6.

Good to know, thanks for finding this.

Drop Zone71 07-24-2008, 4:49 PM

So is this the DLC promised to people who buy the PE SCIV?

I wish someone from Namco would just tell us what the real deal is with all DLC for the game.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

Fuzetsu 07-24-2008, 4:56 PM
so its seems Astaroth's 2P costume from SC2 is in as well as classic Nightmare, SC2 Voldo's 3rd costume, and classic Sophitia.  Hopefully some more old costumes return.  Yoshimitsu's Sc2 costume was the best.  Dunno about the wallpapers, but I hope they have more gamerpics available as well.  SC has always had good soundtracks, so I wouldn't mind getting that.

I have a ton of MS points to blow and I have the LE reserved, so if the DLC is available at launch, the first time I play SC IV, it could be fully loaded.  Money isn't too much of a problem and I'm a huge fan of the series, but I hope future DLC contains more than just alternate costumes

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

TheSativaGamer 07-24-2008, 5:16 PM

no Drop Zone71 the developers have stated the content in the PE will be exclusive to the people who buy the PE version of the game.  yea Fuzetsu i want more costumes to use in CAS and it looks like im going to have to buy some more microsoft points.

what can i say im an item hore.

I think I'll pass on any dlc that this game comes out with, unless it is reasonably priced and a good amount of content for the money.  If 14 dollars is the price of the soon to be released dlc, then I don't think I'll roll over.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

TheSativaGamer 07-24-2008, 8:41 PM
most definently im not going to pay for DLC thats over priced for what it is and not only that im only going to purchase the DLC that i personally want.  if theres DLC that i dont care for or its over priced i wont be buying it period.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

Pitiful P1ayer2 07-24-2008, 9:17 PM

I wonder if they did like EA has done in the past? Where the content was originally in the game, but was taken out just so they could see it all DLC. If so thats really lame.

I remember back when Luminis Live was released I was thinking about getting it, then I realized one that it was 1,200(should have been 800), but mainly I didnt get it because they took out modes and sold them as DLC.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

TheSativaGamer 07-24-2008, 9:21 PM
you got it bud that seems like the new trend in gaming.  take out content in the game that people would probably pay for.  that or if people want the full version of the game make them pay a little more for it via DLC or LE game.  its not bad enough that games are already ten dollars more than last gen.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

JaiGaia 07-24-2008, 9:43 PM
you keep saying things that should be in the game , now on some levels i ll agree with u theres some stuff that now a day comes out as DLC that should have been included in the game. Of this link the DLC here seems very limited ... i mean BGM tracks ... its not that big of a deal personally but i doubt thats the extent of their DLC or that they just excluded these all together, and for all we know that could mean full tracks to go into ur music library or something. In that other link of the review from the guy in red shorts on video he would have said something if he thought BGM's were missing. Sometimes games do release soundtracks and this could just be another way of them making it available. Wallpapers arent so bad but again u ll find them free later if u wait u can just download it. And remember they release different things in different regions so this may just be for those no need to get excited yet

Personally i would hope that DLC for a game such as this would definitely be more Characters and custom items for our character customizations, weapons and maybe some new battle stages, or battle modes most definitely. Like a Ranked Tournament mode for online [if it doesnt already]  or something would be nice. But then again i never complained bout not having enough when i bought the rest of these SC/E  titles so i probably wouldnt now if they had no new content to come.

Personally we gamers are being over spoiled now a days by DLC especially on console, coming from the PC MMO world i can see where we expect such ... but console players have definitely become too much now adays, and its this same eagerness thats allowing companies to continue what is becoming a trend of releasing over hyped subpar games [not saying this one btw] .. but we know of those that have been, then later keep us enticed at the draw of new content and fixes by patch.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

TheSativaGamer 07-24-2008, 10:02 PM

well its true to many times game developer try to charge us for content that should already be in the game.  you even said you agree with me on some level.  im not saying all DLC isnt worth it and that it should all be free.  im just saying some of the stuff that companys charge for should just come with the game.

im not going to budge on that.  yea you might not have complained about the other SC games but DLC wasnt what it is these days so of course there going to take things out of SC4 that imo shouldve already been in the game.

not only that JaiGaia didnt the older SC games have more modes?  so yea i dont like it when we get a stripped down version of a game only to sell certain parts later on down the road as DLC.  now fixes by patches are a must especially if problems in a game cause it to freeze.

how are we being spoiled by DLC these days when DLC can add replay value to some of our favorite games.  you also bring up the PC but whos to say some of the DLC isnt just as important to people who only play consoles online.

i dont care for all DLC but some of it when done right are great additions to a game.  btw why do PC gamers always have to put down consoles when people who own consoles only want the same things pc gamers are getting for there games?

anyway yea like i said you might have not complained about the older SC games but thats because DLC wasnt a part of gaming as it is today.  so that being said of course SC4 might be missing game modes and features that shouldve been in the game.

instead we might have to pay for it via DLC.  so yea that kind sucks imo.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

TheSativaGamer 07-24-2008, 10:32 PM

so what have we learned here today.  1. DLC shouldnt only be for PC gamers  2. some DLC should already be included in the game because before consoles were so big on DLC we wouldve gotten most of these things when bought the game last gen.  not only that but thats part of the reason why we might be missing features and game modes that were in past games.

3. hey some DLC content is cool and actually gives games more replay value.  4. if you dont like DLC dont buy it no one is forcing you too.  5. only buy the content that you think is worth it to you.  all in all i love DLC as long as its done right but i just dont like when game developers sell content that really should be included in the game.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

Defvayne 07-24-2008, 11:06 PM
DLC is quickly becoming a problem.  In the future I wouldn't be suprised if we end up paying only for the base of a game, from that we will purchase the desired game modes and only pay for what we truly want.  The end result is a game that will cost well over $60.  This is a slippery-slope theory that could occur with rising development costs.  I hope not.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

TheSativaGamer 07-24-2008, 11:21 PM

oh i dont know development costs do play a factor but i dont think they play a factor to the extent of what game developers are saying they do.  now really big budget games like MGS4 i understand but for the majority of games i think the budget thing is more of an excuse to make more money without looking to greedy.

i mean isnt the reason why game prices went up ten dollars this gen because of development costs?  think about it ten dollars really adds with all the sales a game makes.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

JaiGaia 07-25-2008, 12:46 AM
To be fair most forms of media are taking this approach, Movies for dvds u get a SE and a directors cut, music u get SE or bonus ... some companies take the route of giving u everything with an SE while others allow u to explore more options within what u buy with a bonus type edition. As far as gaming goes all Popular Franchise type titles are coming with the same approach, its actually good as it gives options but as u said and i agree they are coming out with more and more titles that should have certain things in the release, i prey SC4 isnt one of them.

should certain modes not be available well good thing we got the power of voice and the console  has a way to implement them, the sad part is getting round MS to get what we should have for free, and seperate what we should really be paying for, but it can happen.

btw im cross platform, and i dont mean like spoiled in a bad way but our current console generation is a bit spoiled now a day, read many forums and all they want to talk about is what should be coming out as DLC and disappointed when it doesnt. Im just saying its starting to become too expected and it shouldnt. I guess being a bit old school i just look it at like IM happy when they do , and not too disappointed when they dont and on past SC's for instance  the reason i didnt complain is bc it wasnt available. I as a consumer do my research well before i buy a game anyhow so i know before hand whether or not to purchase the game or if its worth it. I guess we can only hope for good content for future release should they leave some things out that belong.

Re: looks like namco already has DLC ready for us.

TheSativaGamer 07-25-2008, 2:46 AM

your comparing dvds to video games when it comes to special editions which is fine but i dont remember the last time payed 59.99 for any SE dvd.  i know what your saying but i dont think were going to get things free anymore unless its petty things like gamer pics/themes.

you might say that our current console generation is spoiled but what did you expect would happen when DLC that is worth the money was introduced.  console gamers dont have the options of getting free mods for example like PC users have so console users rely on DLC for extras.

i dont blame people for being dissapointed when DLC isnt available for there favorite games because its the game developers and console makers faults creating DLC in the first place to make extra money.  why shouldnt DLC be expected when ever a PC game is released theres always user content made for it.

you cant do that with a consoles so imo PC users take the things they have for granted because i know for a fact console users wouldnt be content if they had access to all the stuff PC users get in there games.  now like ive been saying maybe it was okay to be content with games in the past but thats because we got everything the developer created before the game was released.

nowadays we rely on DLC to get the most out of what we do get from a game.  lets say games these days are shorter or lack certain modes/features that were in previous versions of that game.  since some of us dont have PCs and dont have access to free stuff dont you think the next best thing would be DLC?

not only that but some of us do have PCs but hate having to upgrade graphics cards just to play the latest PC games.  now the problem with money being made off of DLC is how much of the game are we going to be missing?

some of the DLC ive seen online i laugh at and think to myself that shouldve already been included in the game and other DLC i laugh at because its just plain over priced.  it is all up to the consumer though if the DLC is worth it to you then buy it.

reasons like that keep me from being as content as i was before DLC was available.

sorry but i cant just be content with a game when i know for a fact that they took out modes/features that wouldve been in the game if there wasnt money to be made with DLC.  im not saying this is the case for SC4 yet because i dont know if certain modes that were in previous SC games will be available via DLC.

i can say however if theres things like extra BGM music then yea that shouldve just came packaged with the game.  so in ending i cant be content with a game that should have more gameplay/features that wouldve been available if there wasnt DLC.

dont get me wrong i might love the game but to say im totally content would be a lie when i know it couldve been so much more if things werent taken out to make money off of DLC.  once again shouldnt we be getting everything we can when were already paying 10 dollars more for games this gen.

there were versions of games that cost less last gen that had more gameplay/features than this gen due to companys making money of off DLC.

lol were not arguing were debating and this is a good way to inform each other.  im not taking the posts personal and i dont think JaiGai is either.  theres nothing wrong about being passionate about the things you love and i love gaming.

besides the topic is about DLC so this seems like the best place for a debate about DLC and how it effects gaming.

Phyzzyx 07-25-2008, 6:48 AM
I don't mind some of the DLC for games like I think I grabbed a few Oblivion mods with the fortresses and stuff and that was cheap... So it was cool... But if they already have DLC before the game's released that means they probably purposely withheld it from us for a price... But it depends on the content... Like new levels like those three trap levels in SC2 I would buy if they weren't expensive just because those were fun and creative... Especially the ice one
