So how large of a chain do you think will fix you an A rank?  The highest I've managed to get is around 31, which only gave me a B.

For the first stage, you need 200k or more points for an A. This is easily doable with 50ish chains as long as you kill the boss fast enough for a large time bonus.

You missed a zero, it's 2M (as in 2 Million) remember max chain is 25.6K, top scores on the first level are around 5M from other versions and the rank only goes up to an S++.  Level 3 is 3M (3,000,000) and I think the later levels might even be higher than that... The 2nd stage will require a chain at the beginning with all those planes, so dont think you can play dodge the planes and still expect to walk with an A.

I will need the slow motion feature then, the beginning of 2nd stage is "just try to survive" for me.

Still a B at 1st stage... I´ll have to play a lot more to grab that A one

yeah, getting A on level 1 took me quite a bit of practice too.. Felt mostly like memorizing every enemy spawn. Remember to blow the boss up quick (save homing lasers, shoot with opposite polarity) as you get 10k for every second left.

Does the final phase of the boss have a polarity?  Is it the opposite of whatever grenades he is throwing?  The best time I've managed to achieve would be around 62 seconds.

Got a chain of 45 last night, bringing my score up to 170,000, but still only a B+.

3m got me an A on stage 2.

He starts out white then second phase is black and last stage is white.

Just managed to grab the A rank for level 1, with a max chain of 50 and a little over 2M.  I can also confirm that the bosses final phase is indeed white.

It's white.

Yeah, I got an A ranking on both Normal and Hard for LEVEL 1 this weekend... I had a chain of 55 for Normal and 57 for HARD.

Strictly speaking a high (50+) chain isn't necessary for an A... if a series of smaller chains add up to the A score. I'm positive you can get an A in chapter 2 if you skip the planes at the beginning... but chaining them actually isn't too bad once you know what to look for.

ya, you def do not need to chain the planes in the beginning.  I generally can chain a 27-28 before chapter 2 officially begins, but i have chained 12 and managed to get like 3.12m.  Keep at it!

I don't shoot any planes at the start (too confusing lol) and I can still easily score more than 3 million for an A. I come out of the start of the second chapter with a 20x chain.
